Unhinged Travel Tips From Social Media You Won’t Believe
TikTok is full of travel tips, but not all of them are worth trying. In this episode, I’m breaking down some of the most unhinged travel tips I’ve seen floating around online. Some of these tips cross the line completely. Others are just plain weird. And a few might actually be helpful, depending on how you travel. I’m sharing my honest thoughts as we walk through the chaos together. If you’ve ever wondered just how far people are willing to go to save a buck or skip a line, you’re in for a ride. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: The lengths people go to for free amenities How travelers are turning vests into luggage How travelers are making space in their suitcase before they even leave How some travelers allow curiosity and chance to plan their itinerary Episode Highlights We kick things off with the worst offenders. These are the tips that are dishonest, unsafe, or completely over the line. Whether or not people are serious, they’re not worth the risk. Then we move into the gray area. These tips toe the line between clever and selfish. Some might work, but not without consequences. Next up are the weird ones that kind of make sense. They might not be your thing, but they’re not exactly wrong either. Finally, we look at the mindset behind these ideas. Not every tip is about money. Some are about space, freedom, or finding your own way to travel. 🎧 Resources & Links from This Episode Henderson Beach Resort: Follow Hender Beach Resort on Instagram: 📰 Subscribe to the Newsletter Get practical tips on family money and travel, plus updates, tools, and resources to help you live more intentionally. 5 Moments of Peace I Found at Henderson Beach Resort

5 Moments of Peace I Found at Henderson Beach Resort
Hey adventurers. Let’s talk about the kind of travel that helps you slow down and breathe a little deeper. I recently spent a few days at Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Florida, as part of a hosted media trip with Matador Network. Instead of doing a full resort review, I wanted to highlight five personal moments that stood out to me during my stay. These weren’t bucket list activities or high-adrenaline excursions. They were the kind of moments that helped me reset. It’s a personal look at what peace looks like when you let go of your schedule and lean into rest. If you’ve ever come back from a vacation feeling like you need another one, this episode is for you. In this episode, you’ll learn Why an early morning yoga session by the water was the perfect start to the day What made my spa experience feel like more than just a massage Why slowing down on the beach gave me a new kind of vacation energy Where to catch the best sunset views around the resort How a simple night around a fire pit turned into a trip highlight Episode Summary This episode is all about finding peace in the middle of a busy life. I’m sharing five moments from my time at Henderson Beach Resort that reminded me how good it feels to slow down. These experiences weren’t flashy, but they stayed with me in the best way. You’ll hear about yoga near the water, a spa visit that felt surprisingly personal, and why just sitting under a beach umbrella might be exactly what you need. I also talk about the kind of sunset views that make people stop mid-sentence and how a casual evening with strangers turned into one of my favorite memories from the trip. This trip was a great reminder that sometimes the most valuable part of travel isn’t checking things off a list. It’s creating space to actually feel present. If your version of rest has been collecting dust lately, I hope this episode helps you start reclaiming it. 🎧 Resources & Links from This Episode Henderson Beach Resort: Follow Hender Beach Resort on Instagram: 📰 Subscribe to the Newsletter Get practical tips on family money and travel, plus updates, tools, and resources to help you live more intentionally. Where To Stay At Disney World
08/08/2023
Where To Stay At Disney World
Choosing where to stay at Disney World is one of the biggest decisions when planning your trip. With so many hotel and vacation rental options in the Orlando area, one of the first things to decide is whether to stay on property at a Disney World Resort or off property somewhere else. This episode kicks off our Disney World Vacation Planning Series and, for the first time, I’m recording from a hotel instead of my home office. I’m coming to you from The Walt Disney World Swan Resort as we break down the pros and cons of staying on Disney property versus staying offsite. Takeaways In this episode, you’ll learn: The perks of staying at a Disney World Resort The types of accommodations available outside of the Disney bubble What Disney Good Neighbor Hotels are and how they compare to Disney resorts The hidden costs of staying off-property that could impact your budget Episode Summary One of the biggest questions Disney visitors face is whether to stay at a Disney World Resort or book a hotel, vacation rental, or Airbnb off-property. Each option has its benefits, but the right choice depends on your budget, travel style, and priorities. In this episode, we go over the major perks of staying at a Disney World Resort, including early park entry, free transportation, and the immersive Disney experience. We also explore the downsides of staying on property, like higher costs and fewer accommodation options for large families. For those considering off-property stays, we break down how much you can save, the flexibility of choosing a non-Disney hotel or rental, and what hidden costs—like parking fees and transportation—could offset those savings. We also cover Disney Good Neighbor Hotels, a middle-ground option that offers some Disney perks while keeping costs lower than official Disney resorts. If you’re planning a trip to Disney and aren’t sure where to stay, this episode will help you weigh the pros and cons so you can find the best fit for your vacation. 🎧Resources & Recommendations 📰 SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER Get practical tips on family money and travel, plus updates, tools, and resources to help you live more intentionally. 📍FIND ME ON THE INTERWEBS 📲✨CONNECT WITH ME ON SOCIAL Instagram: Facebook: TikTok: YouTube: CHECK OUT OUR DISNEY PODCAST SERIES 🎙️ 🧳 TRAVEL TOOLS I LOVE Packing Cubes & Travel Backpacks – Hotels – Vacation Rentals – Attractions & Tours – Attractions & Tours – Theme Park Tickets – City Passes – Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tours – Travel Insurance – RV Rentals – 💸 MONEY TOOLS I RECOMMEND Rewards Credit Cards – Budgeting Apps for Families – High-Yield Savings – High-Yield Savings & CDs – Kids’ Banking – Micro-Investing – Some links may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you sign up or make a purchase at no extra cost to you. 11 Essential Travel Tips for Family Adventures
With four teenagers, we've had our share of family adventures over the years. We've made tons of mistakes when traveling that have cost us time, money, and energy. We've learned from those mistakes and are better prepared when we're planning future family vacations. In this episode, we explore 11 essential travel tips for families. These tips will help you save money, plan better trips and create a better travel experience for you and your family. The following trips have helped us over the years, but may not apply to everyone. Take what works for you to help plan future family vacations. 1. Plan your trip in advance There are several advantages to booking travel in advance: Better deals and availability, the earlier you book Prebook experiences that may sell out Plan an itinerary Set your travel budget Get your kids involved in the planning of the trip The amount of time and energy needed to plan a successful family trip depends on your destination, time frame and type of trip. 2. Don't overpack Stay at hotels or vacation rentals that offer laundry access. Pack less and wear outfits more than once. 3. Pack snacks Everyone needs snacks. 4. Screen time and Downtime are your friends Even if you have strict rules for screen time, you should consider relaxing those rules when you travel, especially if you spend considerable time traveling to a destination. Treat extra screen time as a special privilege reserved for when you travel. Schedule downtime so everyone has time to rest and recharge. Pay attention to your family's body language and adjust your schedule as needed. 5. Pay for quality gear You usually get what you pay for. We've found that when it comes to travel gear, it's usually best to invest a little more to purchase high-quality items that will last longer. 6. Always sign up for free loyalty programs There's no cost to sign up for most loyalty rewards programs. Even if you're not going to get a rewards credit card or use a particular hotel, airline, or rental company that often, you can sometimes earn extra benefits just by signing up for their loyalty program. 7. Be flexible Things are going to go wrong on your trip. Learn to respond well, and don't let these issues ruin your trip. 8. Protect your kids Implement security measures to protect your kids when traveling. Make sure they have your contact information and know what to do if they get separated from you. 9. Get out from behind the camera Give your kids the gift of seeing you in photos when they look back decades from now and reminisce. 10. Use a trusted traveler program TSA Precheck, Global Entry, and CLEAR are a lifesaver when it comes to air travel. Consider signing up for one of these programs to expedite airport security lines. 11. Have your kids pull their weight Put your kids to work when it's age-appropriate to do so. Teach them how to pack their own bag and to be responsible for their luggage and gear. Emergency Funds vs. Sinking Funds – Which One Should You Prioritize?
The best way to prepare for future expenses is to save for them in advance. Emergency Funds help cover unexpected expenses and emergencies outside of your everyday spending. Sinking funds help you achieve short-term savings goals. Both funds are essential for families, but which one should you prioritize? An emergency fund is money saved and set aside for emergency expenses you encounter outside of your regular spending. A sinking fund is money saved and set aside for short-term savings goals and one-time expenses. We use both as part of our money management strategy as a family. Having an emergency fund has helped our family escape some financial jams over the years. Without it, we would've had to use budgeted money to cover costly emergency expenses or take on credit card debt. Sinking funds have been a revelation for us. We use them all the time to help us reach short-term savings goals, like saving for vacations, home improvements and repairs, birthday and holiday gifts, and school and youth sports fees. Using emergency and sinking funds can improve your finances and help you develop better savings habits. We're excited to tackle this vital topic to help you on your family money adventure. In this episode, we discuss what emergency funds and sinking funds are, the purpose of each, and which fund to prioritize. Big Family, Big Adventures, Small Budget: Insider Tips for Saving Money on Large Family Travel
Family travel isn't one size fits all. For people like us with larger families, it can be a challenge to find accommodations to fit everyone comfortably. It's also a challenge for our wallet as travel costs typically jump as your traveling party increases. The definition of a large family is subjective. For some, it means you've had TV execs banging on your door pitching reality TV show ideas based on your family's size. For us, it's any family that doesn't fit in a standard 2-bed hotel room. Once you grow beyond a family of four, it's sometimes difficult to stay in a hotel without someone sleeping on the floor or booking more than one room. There are exceptions to this of course as some hotel chains offer suites with sleeper sofas and other amenities for larger families. If you have a large family, there are still plenty of ways to save money and have an epic family travel adventure. How To Start A Freelance Writing Business
The question I get asked more than anything as a content creator is, how did you become a freelance writer? The idea started years ago as a backup plan, actually. I was working in a career I didn't love and wanted to find a way to switch careers, make more money, and free up time so I wouldn't have to miss my kids' sporting events and other activities. I had experience in public speaking, but it's hard to book speaking gigs while still working a day job. I couldn't afford to lose income to build a speaking career, so I turned to writing. I had no formal training or education but loved to write. My writing ability has come a long way since those first assignments. At least, I think so. I still have much room for improvement. In November 2019, I left my day job to become a full-time freelance writer and content creator. Since that time, I've been able to more than double the income from my old job and create a more flexible work schedule that better aligns with my personal and family goals and interests. In this episode, you're going to learn more about how I started as a freelance writer, the steps you can take to create a freelance writing business and some tools that can help you become a better writer and business owner. Takeaways In this episode, you'll learn: How to choose a writing niche How to create an online portfolio Where to look for clients The importance of growing your business once you've started Tools to help you build a freelance writing business 🎧Resources & Recommendations 📰 SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER Get practical tips on family money and travel, plus updates, tools, and resources to help you live more intentionally. 📍FIND ME ON THE INTERWEBS 📲✨CONNECT WITH ME ON SOCIAL Instagram: Facebook: TikTok: YouTube: CHECK OUT OUR DISNEY PODCAST SERIES 🎙️ EPISODE RESOURCES 🧳 TRAVEL TOOLS I LOVE Packing Cubes & Travel Backpacks – Hotels – Vacation Rentals – Attractions & Tours – Attractions & Tours – Theme Park Tickets – City Passes – Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tours – Travel Insurance – RV Rentals – 💸 MONEY TOOLS I RECOMMEND Rewards Credit Cards – Budgeting Apps for Families – High-Yield Savings – High-Yield Savings & CDs – Kids’ Banking – Micro-Investing – Some links may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you sign up or make a purchase at no extra cost to you.
