Understanding and Healing Core Wounds: How to Become Securely Attached with Thais Gibson
"We have to go in there and find out what the core wounds are associated with the trauma and recondition those ideas about ourselves." ~Thais Gibson In this conversation, Jennifer Hurvitz interviews Thais Gibson, a counselor and co-founder of The Personal Development School. They discuss topics such as shadow work and attachment styles. Shadow work explores and integrates the parts of ourselves that we try to deny or hide. It involves identifying triggers and examining the root causes of our reactions. In this conversation, Thais Gibson discusses the importance of reconditioning core wounds and beliefs about oneself to heal from trauma and develop a secure attachment style. She emphasizes the need to move beyond simply blaming others for our problems and instead focus on understanding and changing our beliefs. Thais also explains the five key pillars of becoming securely attached: reconditioning core wounds, knowing and communicating our needs, setting boundaries, regulating our nervous system, and positively reinforcing good behavior. She provides practical tips for effective communication and suggests setting a timeline for personal growth and relationship change. Takeaways Core wounds are subconscious beliefs about ourselves that often stem from past experiences. Healing core wounds involves reconditioning the subconscious through repetition, emotion, and imagery. The three-step process for healing core wounds includes finding the opposite of the core wound, identifying ten memories of feeling the opposite, and recording and listening to those memories for 21 days. Reconditioning core wounds and beliefs about oneself is essential for healing from trauma and developing a secure attachment style. Blaming others for our problems is not productive; instead, we should focus on understanding and changing our beliefs. The five key pillars of becoming securely attached are reconditioning core wounds, knowing and communicating our needs, setting boundaries, regulating our nervous system, and positively reinforcing good behavior. Effective communication involves positive framing, clearly showing what we need, seeing our needs through, and positively reinforcing good behavior. How to Communicate with an AVOIDANT Partner- with your host Jennifer Hurvitz
If you don't already know, your attachment style, which is basically how you relate to others in your close relationships, falls into one of four categories: secure, anxious, avoidant (sometimes known as dismissive-avoidant), and disorganized (also known as fearful-avoidant). Today, we’ll focus on romantic relationships with someone with an avoidant attachment style — a discomfort with emotional closeness, a deep need for independence, and a reluctance to rely on others. Having a relationship with someone with this attachment style has some unique challenges. Thank you, Jim Healey, for being so honest and open! Living Apart Together: What is it and Why Do Couples Do it? with Jennifer Hurvitz and her partner, Jim Healey
This episode generated a lot of buzz among my listeners back in January, so why not re-air it? Today on Doing Relationships Right, Jim Healey is back, and we're talking about "Living Apart Together" - an old trend that's getting more popular. It's something we've been doing since we met in 2017! It's been good for us, but could it work for you? Listen to our chat to hear the upsides and downsides. It's important to do what's right for your relationship. Scientific evidence suggests that living apart could really strengthen a long-term relationship. Are you great partners but terrible roommates? You two make a great team, but do you have different ideas about what success means? Is it essential to you NOT to blend families? A successful connection means different things to different people, as gender roles, parenthood, and cultural background all play a role in relationships. What was once a deal breaker may now be an opportunity to adapt to modern society. We are here to destigmatize the negativity of going against the "norm." Have any questions for us? Please feel free to DM me- remember, it's okay to try different ways of doing things! Read more about The Unblended Family, Nesting, and Living Apart Together in my books- One Happy Divorce, Woulda.
