Who Knew The 1930's Would Give Us 40's?
Welcome to 23&G a podcast that seeks to explore the hopelessly intertwined relationship of rap, it’s birth from trauma and its nearly seamless pairing with marketing and to that end-capitalism. In episode one we discussed possible theories as to why rappers are so good at selling things… alcohol, SUV’s- even kids cereal. Rappers can and do; sell almost everything. We also explored the music’s origins and whether it’s listeners hear more- than just a catchy hook. Finally we took a closer look at the first companies to look to hip-hop, to help move slow product. Our goal in episode two we make the connection between: The Great Depression and World War II ; and how that will help us find our way back to the dinner I promised in the previous episode. I keep my promises. As the civil rights era continued to progress and people of color become more of a consumer base- the question arose: “Wait. Who’s gonna sell the stuff?” As always: As always, please rate, comment, and subscribe! New episodes available every Sunday. Also available on YouTube: @aljackson Instagram: @aljacksonig
