Five Things to Consider When Deciding Which Coach to Hire In this week's video, I share five things to consider when deciding which coach to hire. It's a question I get a lot, so I am excited to share five things to consider and a few red flags to be wary of. When you google "how to hire a life coach," you will find advice like ‘check their experience, skills, and qualifications and get at least two references. Confirm their credentials, professional memberships, and credentials.’ I have never chosen a coach this way. So, how do you decide who to hire? Here are five things to look for: #1 Resonance. - do you resonate with them and/or their philosophy? Visit their website and ask yourself if their message and overall vibe resonate with you. #2 Can they hold you? Is there a sense they do their inner work and have clear energy? Will they be able not to bring their ego into your relationship and provide a space where your truth will be able to come forward? Will they be able to hold you where you are going? They either have to be secure in you, potentially surpassing them, or be a great deal ahead of you. #3 Are they doing aligned work for them? I always visit their About page to learn about their story and why they do the work they do. #4 They can see what I can't, relating to results I am currently not getting, and want to help me get. In other words, are they magical? I am looking for someone with a different perspective to reveal the hidden truth that I cannot see myself. Red flag: If a coach approaches it as you won't be successful unless you work with them, that could be considered as disempowering. You want to work with someone where there is no power dynamic involved. You want someone who sees you as whole, complete, and empowered. #5 Are they into you? I want to work with someone who has asked me enough about what I want to know if they can help me get there. This is something you don't necessarily have to discuss personally. Good copywriting, structure, and messaging will tell you everything you need to know, so the website is the perfect place to find this. You Can't Quick-Fix Leadership You can’t quick fix leadership, but here’s how your magic can help. A business leader recently asked me, “What do I do? I keep explaining to one of my team members how a task should be done, but they’re doing it another way, which I know is ineffective. I don’t know what to do. Help!” I could tell this person wanted an easy answer or a traditional thought process, like if there is a structure for accountability, but there was more to it than that. In their case, company culture and brand values needed to be established. This is important when working with team members because you can always tie explanations back to them and demonstrate, “We do it this way because…” It’s also important to receive buy-in from incoming team members. Ask them if they care about these company values and are aligned with them. The six Sourced magics are ways our inner knowing works; when you know yours, it can be helpful when working with a team. In this situation, if someone continues to do something one way but my magic is firing at me with another idea, in our Sourced company values, I can “Call Magic.” My team knows we can say, “ My magic is firing right now, and I know this is how it will work.” At Sourced, we have normalized this in our company culture. If someone just knows that they know, we honor that. If something continues, I will ask my team member: “This is what my magic is saying; tell me what’s going on for you.” This brings a different depth of conversation. That will take it from the mind-knowing “I do it this way, you do it that way” to “This is what feels resonant for me as a leader and the team as a collective.” Ultimately, however, I need to resonate with it as the leader. Just Because it Isn't Sourced Doesn't Mean It Wasn't Sourced I have had people tell me, “I was following my intuition and all the signs, and it didn’t work out. Now, I can’t trust my inner knowing, I can’t trust Sourced.” To that, I say, just because it doesn’t work out, doesn’t mean it wasn’t Sourced! Quickly followed by - let’s break it down! At Sourced, we teach about the six Sourced Magics, a way to access your inner knowing and develop it to lead a peaceful, purposeful, and light way to living and running your business. You can take the Sourced Magic Quiz here. If we do not receive our preferred outcome, however, does that mean it wasn’t Sourced? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Welcome to being a human. We are all spiritual beings in the human body, and all kinds of energy patterns exist within ourselves. Some of them guide us, and some of them block us. Some energy patterns are based on something that happened in the past, and we sometimes (consciously or unconsciously) base our decisions on these patterns to try to control the future to receive the outcome we desire. When we base decisions on a default energy pattern, patterns based on an un-truth like this, it can create outcomes we don’t prefer. Sounds like bad news, right? Wrong - that result is there to guide you and show you what is next. Real-life example: I hosted a live event that cost me over $50K. At first sight, it was an outcome I did not desire. When I delved deeper, I uncovered that I decided to have that event based on something someone told me- to be successful in my business, I had to have a live event. That was a default energy pattern I had. But once I could see it, I could work with it and transmute it. That experience made me curious about my intuition and how to identify a true “sign.” I discovered my default energy pattern of doing what others say I should do rather than hearing my own soul and doing that instead. It became a whole season of deep, immersive study of being able to hear myself and led to the birth of my own company, the Six Sourced Magics (my framework), and launched a whole world for my clients and me. This likely wouldn’t have happened had I been successful in that event. Just because the result isn’t what we prefer doesn’t mean it isn’t Sourced. It’s an opportunity to shift the field. Every time we go through a cycle of transformation, we open up a greater receptivity to our Sourced Magic, which increases the likelihood that our decisions will lead to a state of ease and flow. Intuition is the New Money Using my Recognition Magic, I have recently seen a trend in the transformation space. How we talk about intuition is how we used to talk about money—specifically, the money objection conversation. In the past, I needed support and coaching around money. I used to have a faulty set of beliefs surrounding the limits of what is possible, my own value, what I should spend money on, and what I shouldn’t. SOMEONE TOOK A STAND FOR ME when I was considering a coaching program. What I mean by that is she lovingly and clearly suggested that while I could build my business on my own, I would likely have to do it again. From there, I could discern what was true for me and make a decision. Spoiler alert - I joined the program. At Sourced, we support and train our clients with tools and frameworks to feel comfortable talking about money, especially money objections, not from a place of convincing or making a sale but for taking a stand for what is possible. We also teach our clients to trust their inner knowing when making decisions and choosing their paths. It used to be the money portion of the conversation when clients started to feel the discomfort of what was possible that compelled them to hit the breaks, but today, it's not money - it's intuition. The conversation stopper has become "my intuition said no" or "my guides said no." What went from a SOUL YES one day to a solid NO after some meditation or sleeping on it is our new money objection conversation. What do you do? How do you overcome the objection of intuition? This question has been at the top of my mind, and I am developing a teaching on this. In the meantime, I treat it the same way I would if I were having a money objection conversation. Here is what I do. First, I check in. I remind them this is what you said you wanted. Is that still true? Are these the outcomes you still desire? Will this program help you get there? Next, I dive in and get curious about how they know they know their intuition clearly. I ask them to tell me about how their inner knowing works. How do they know that your guides said no? I ask them to tell me how their intuition speaks to them and to describe that experience. Sometimes, in this situation, we need to figure out what part of this is guidance and what is fear. When making a big decision, your ego can get so loud that you interpret it as guidance. Share your thoughts in the comments below! Have you experienced this recently? What did you do? As the guide, your job is to ask these questions and be unattached to the outcome. You are not trying to get them to say yes, but help them understand how their guidance works. The Shadow without the Shame At Sourced, we teach our clients the Anatomy of a Transformation, a framework proven to bring deep, energetic shifts. One of the most important phases is receiving a truth that we haven’t been able to see before. Let me let you in on a little secret - It is common that when we see that unseen truth, it might be a “bad news insight” meaning it may not feel so great - even shameful. Who wants to accept that energetically, we are a match for the results we have been getting? What if instead of feeling shame when approaching the space of the shadow, or the hidden truth that was just revealed, we come at it with compassion and levity? What if we remind ourselves that we are all humans humaning? I am reminded of how my small t truth of “I need to be smart to get love” manifested in my need to be the smartest in the room. When I was able to name it I remember feeling and thinking, that person is annoying, I don’t love that I am that person. But then I could work with it, shift it, and ultimately rose in a new energy with a different set of results. Since then, I have had other truths realized, and I approach them with compassion and levity. Oh, look at Darla! Over there Darla - ing and I hold it tenderly. Now I can work with it. Are You an Energy First Company Are you an energy-first company? In this week’s episode of Shift the Field TV, I delve into what it means to be an energy-first company like Sourced. Through my years of experience, I have learned that as a coach, when bringing on a new client, the first matter that needs to be assessed and addressed is their energy. How are they BEING energetically? And how might your energy conflict with what you want to create? Does it align with their business goals? Once their energy is aligned, we can co-create a strategy, offerings, and marketing of their services. However, if that energy-first stage is skipped, it can be to your detriment and the detriment of your future clients. I have encountered clients who successfully brought in new clients but skipped that energy-first step and would inevitably run into problems. They would be stressed with a heavy weight on their shoulders because they weren’t sure they could be effective. The reason is that their client's goals are inaccessible because their energy is mismatched for the strategy. They will return to you with feedback such as “I’m doing everything you told me to, and nothing is working.” For example, I had a marketing client with a “done for you” company, meaning she was hired to do the social media - go! But the energy wasn’t aligned. Having a social media presence is hard when you are avoiding being visible. The energy must be addressed first! Then, you can tackle strategy. Here are my questions: As a transformational service provider, are you first talking about your client's energy? Do you own and overtly use your magic? And finally, are you charging for it? Have you Outstructured Your Magic? Have you ever outstructured your magic? I believe in transforming out loud, so during this Transformational Storytime, I want to share a deep insight I gained from my recent event, Shift the Field Live. I had a strange experience during this virtual retreat regarding timing that revealed a truth that had been hidden from my view. I have hosted over 100 retreats as a coach, and when you host one virtually, it can feel like a different animal. I had these rules in my head about timing for this event that I don’t necessarily have when it’s held in person. There were wires crossed among my team that put the timing off by about 12 minutes. It was something tiny but brought a funky energy that I didn’t like. Through my training, experience, and practice, I also knew that there was more to it and that something was being revealed. While some rules and structures are great, they can also stifle your magic. That’s what happened to me. I learned enough to know that when life comes at you, it serves as your life coach. I have spent the last few months on a project creating systems around timing and events. While reflecting on Shift the Field and the timing experience, I realized I haven’t been enjoying the process, and it has made me feel boxed in. Somewhere along the way, I got the idea that I had to have more structure to uplevel my business. What I didn’t do was stop to tune into my soul and ask Source what my next right steps were. I outstructured my magic. It made me see that I was also outstucturing my magic in other places in my business leadership. Believe Yourself Receive from Source Believe yourself, receive from Source. What do I mean by that? This is one of our favorite mantras here at Sourced, and it means the more you trust how your inner knowing works (God, the universe, whatever you believe), the more information, guidance, and support you will have the capacity to receive. Don’t forget! Source has your back! Source is here to support you in moving toward your greatest expression and soul alignment on this planet. But sometimes, we forget and shut down our divine guidance. The main culprit for this - self-criticism. It’s the thought that I must be crazy to know that, think that, want that, and the scariest of them all - what if I'm wrong? This is something that we learn when we are young, and we all have different versions of it. We learn to censor ourselves and self-criticize. I do my work teaching other transformational leaders to deliver transformation with confidence, and many of them have reached high levels of expanding their coaching businesses and scaling their services. The most common roadblock I see when they reach a plateau is self-criticism. What if it is wrong to go that way? I share a time in my childhood when I first thought, “Oh, sh*#. What if I am wrong?” That thought ran most of my life. I also share a time mentor telling me later in life, “You’ll never be right, Darla, until you let yourself be wrong.” Since then, through much education and healing, I trust in Source and believe that I do know that, I do think that, and I want that, etc. While I do place great value on validation from peers, mentors, and others, at the end of the day, when I believe myself and my inner knowing, Source offers more.
