Finite Game or Infinite Game...which are you playing as a Dad, a Husband, a Business Owner?
Simon Sinek popularized the Infinite Game concept: a mental framework that discourages using shortcuts for temporary gain and promotes action rooted in long-term “big picture” thinking. Sinek applied this philosophy to business and leadership… But it goes way beyond that! In today’s episode Dustin and R.J. explain the differences between a Finite Game and an Infinite Game, and how to leverage Infinite Game thinking to strengthen your marriage, your health, and much more. Listen now! Show highlights include: Key differences between Finite Game and Infinite Game. Keeps you from getting beat in business and relationships because you didn’t know which game to play. (3:35) The Vietnam Secret: How underdogs succeed against bigger, more-advanced opponents. (4:26) Why “we want to win” is a useless business goal, and how to adjust it into something productive. (6:21) How Infinite Game thinking improves your planning and leadership skills. Like a chess grandmaster, you’ll “see the board” moves ahead. (7:40) Why applying Infinite Game to your marriage makes arguments with your wife less frequent and less heated. (9:10) The “total dude thing” that wastes your time and distracts you from your real goals. Is your identity permanent? No, not THAT identity.
Who are you? How you answer that tiny question makes a huge impact on your decisions, your actions, and ultimately your life. But most dads don’t answer that question on purpose. They answer it internally without really thinking about it, and let that answer subconsciously run their lives. Then they wonder why they feel stuck. In this episode Dustin and R.J. explain how to embrace whatever identity you choose (and the right behaviors to go with it) so you can design and achieve the life you want. Listen now! Show highlights include: R.J.’s “one sentence transformation” for athletes that you can easily adapt to change how you look at yourself for good. Works instantly. How to level up as a leader with Dr. Nate Salah, Doctor of Leadership
Everything hinges on leadership. It’s the difference between life and death, success and failure, and whether we thrive or have problems that keep us stuck. In fact, it's the most important role in humanity. This is especially true as dads and business owners. We have to lead our families. Our teams. And everyone we can influence in some way. But leadership’s hard. It’s one of the toughest “skills” to learn. Especially if you’re not a natural leader. That’s why I invited Dr. Nate Salah, a doctor of leadership on today’s show. Despite being a doctor of leadership, he never considered himself a natural leader. And it wasn’t until he found a mentor that he honed his leadership skills. In this episode, you’ll discover how to become a better leader (even if you’re not a natural leader), why leadership is the most important role in humanity, and how becoming a better leader unlocks more business growth than anything else you can do. Listen now. Show highlights include: Why striving for work-life balance can actually make you feel less fulfilled in both (3:54) Is your life off track right now? Here’s why finding your faith can get it back on track (even if you’ve never stepped foot in a church before) (5:12) How to prevent getting divorced (even if your marriage is on shaky grounds) (5:50) The “feedback, not failure” mindset tweak that prevents you from beating yourself up when you make a mistake (11:13) How thinking more like a one-year-old baby helps you reach your wildest goals in less time (11:23) Why fear is the #1 culprit behind your business not scaling as fast as you want (and why putting a timeframe on your plan is the anecdote) (16:22) How ignoring your weaknesses instead of trying to improve them will grow your business faster than a speeding bullet (19:07) A doctor of leadership’s definition of leadership (and how understanding this could turn you into Steve Jobs, Milton Hershey, or Walt Disney) (26:51) The insidious way isolation will crush your business goals (even if it’s responsible for growing your business to where it is today) (29:26) Join ~300 other Dads like you by joining The Balanced Business Dad's Facebook group here: Check out our website at: Or email Dustin and R. Steve Buzogany, accounting to real estate to building gifting company Appreciation Advocate.
Steve starts with an accounting degree to get that piece of paper that made his mother happy. How many of us have done that? Steve never worked a day of accounting but went straight into real estate and built his successful real estate career using the referral method. That involved giving clients very personalized gifts. Other agents where interested in this, but said that they did not have the time to do it. Bang, a new business was born. Steve started Appreciation Advocate to provide business people and sales people with a very personalized gift and appreciation program. Steve talks about building a business and using his values to stay balanced. "When your values are clear your decisions are easy." I love his description of Purposeless Appointments when filling your calendar. This is both business and personal and I think we can all relate. Steve is one of the Rule Makers. Episode #16: Cedrick Webb...the Coolest Man in Missouri
Dustin Hoog and R. J. Campbell talk with Cedrick Webb, the coolest man in Missouri. If you don't believe me, just ask Google "who is the coolest man in Missouri"? Cedrick is a husband, a father to two of his own children while also taking two teenage nephews into his home as well. This is all while balancing the building of Smart Digital, a growing top notch digital media company. Cedrick shares his life story from growing up in a less than ideal or privileged household to breaking the chain of poverty by becoming a collegiate scholarship athlete. After a successful career in corporate America Cedrick launched Smart Digital, on day one of a global pandemic. Just another hurdle to get over. There are real lessons on Fatherhood and Brotherhood in this interview. Cedrick details growing up without a father figure and how he learned what "he just knew that he needed to know" on his own. Cedrick passed along this nugget, "You need to understand what you don't want to be before deciding what you do want to be". And Cedrick's telling of how he developed the brotherhood that he knew he was missing as he built his business is out of the box genius. Cedrick is building his business with two ideals, to make every one that he works with better and to give back. This is evident through the Hero Makers scholarship fund that he has started. You can find Cedrick's company Smart Digital at . Cedrick can be reached at his website . As a reminder, the six pillars are: Faith, Health, Marriage, Fatherhood, Brotherhood and Work/Business.
