Why Real Letters and Unfinished Laundry Can Change Everything|371
What happens when you're really, really good at getting shit done... but not so great at doing things for absolutely no reason? While packing for my move, I found a box of 30-year-old letters and postcards and did something wildly rebellious: I sat down in the middle of the day and read them. Boxes were everywhere. According to Philip's spreadsheet I was behind. And I didn't care. That little interruption got me thinking about how good we've become at being useful. We work, remember the appointments, make the reservations, get our steps, keep track of the toilet paper... and somewhere along the way, even fun started needing a purpose. So this Off Duty Life podcast episode is about what happens when you get more freedom in your schedule than you know what to do with. I tried mahjong. I tried pickleball. I tried golf. I was bad at all three and didn't need to be good at any of them. Turns out enjoying your life while some shit stays unfinished might be the actual goal. No app. No portal. No homework. No 12-week plan for becoming excellent at relaxing. Just a little interruption in your regularly scheduled productivity. Your experiment this week: leave one thing undone and use that time for something that accomplishes absolutely nothing. The laundry will survive. I have faith in it. And speaking of doing nothing productively, that's basically the whole premise behind the Off Duty Club, my brand-new quarterly snail-mail club. Founding season is $10, then $27/quarter. First round closes September 9th. Facebook group Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/@kimbarnesjefferson Instagram

I’m Clocking Out: Welcome to Off Duty Life|370
Why Fit Girl Magic Is Becoming Off Duty Life After 7 years and nearly 400 episodes, the podcast has a new name. And no, I didn't just get bored and decide we needed a new logo. I wanted a bigger conversation. Yes, we're still going to talk health, menopause, food, workouts, sleep, all of it. I'm not escorting protein and strength training from the building. We're just making the room bigger. Because somewhere along the way, I realized I'm less interested in helping women cram one more healthy habit into an already packed life and way more interested in this: Are we actually enjoying the life we're working so damn hard to manage? In this Off Duty Life episode, I'm talking about what sparked the shift: moving to Florida knowing approximately zero people, Philip retiring, and realizing I had a much easier time answering what do I need to do? than what do I actually like doing? We're getting into: Why being "on duty" is about more than your to-do list The giant mental Jenga game so many women are playing every day Why a 30-minute workout doesn't need an apology Why sitting on your ass is, in fact, a perfectly acceptable plan What "Off Duty" actually means (spoiler: no coconuts required) Where the podcast is headed next: friendships, marriage, sex, starting over, and figuring out what the hell we actually enjoy Your first Off Duty Experiment: Name three things you want to do in the next 30 days simply because you'd enjoy them. They don't need to improve you. They don't need to make you healthier. They don't need to make you money. Nobody else needs to benefit. If your first thought is I have no freaking idea, that's exactly why we're having this conversation. I'm also sharing a preview of what else is coming in the Off Duty world, including something involving an envelope, a stamp, and your actual mailbox. Yep. Snail mail is making a comeback. Want to know what’s coming in the mail? Join the Off Duty Club: We've spent enough years being on duty. Let's figure out what happens when we clock out. Stop Waiting for Someday to Enjoy Your Life | ep. 369
If your life were a house, which rooms have you been spending the most time in? And which ones have you been walking past, telling yourself you'll get to them someday? For years, my health and fitness room was very impressive. Strength training, protein, two-hour workouts, discipline you could see from space. I lived in that room like it was a studio apartment, even though I had a beautiful house. I just never explored the other rooms. Meanwhile, the rest, fun, friendship, and new experiences rooms were down the hall collecting dust. This episode covers: Why your routine isn't broken, it's just expired The difference between health supporting your life and health being your whole personality The four rooms you might be avoiding: rest, play, connection, and someday What it actually looks like to change with your life instead of fighting it How to stop treating your life like a renovation project that's never done You don't need to bulldoze the house or start another 12-step morning routine. Pick one room. Open the door. Give it ten minutes. Can One Person Really Improve a Marriage?|368
What happens when you want your marriage to change, but your partner has zero interest in counseling, personal development, or doing a relationship workbook after dinner? Are you stuck waiting for them to get on board? Marriage coach Julie Tran says no. Julie’s own marriage reached a point where she and her husband loved each other, but didn’t particularly like each other. They were having the same arguments, walking on eggshells, and feeling more like roommates than partners. She wanted to work on the relationship. He wasn’t exactly racing to join her. So Julie stopped waiting for him to change and started looking at what she could do differently. In this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode, we talk about how one person can begin changing the dynamic of a marriage without taking responsibility for the entire relationship. Julie also shares her three-step Beautiful Boundaries Blueprint for expressing what you need without turning every conversation into an indictment. We get into: Why long marriages can start feeling more like roommate arrangements What happens when you’re keeping score and you’re clearly winning How to stop having the same argument dressed in different clothes Why your partner’s annoying habit is rarely the real problem How to make a request without blaming, demanding, or starting round 47 The difference between doing your part and doing all the work What sesame seeds, coffee slurping, and a spotless kitchen can teach us about love If you’ve ever thought, I want this marriage to feel better, but I can’t be the only one trying, this episode may help you see what’s still within your control. If Someone Asked What You Do for Fun, Could You Answer?| 367
Quick question... What do you do for fun? Not exercise. Not running errands. Not hanging out because someone else wanted to. You. If your brain went completely blank, this episode is for you. Somewhere between careers, kids, partners, aging parents, and keeping everyone else's life running, a lot of us stopped asking what we actually enjoy. We got really good at being responsible... and kind of forgot how to play. In this episode, we're talking about: Why so many women can crush a to-do list but struggle to answer, "What sounds fun?" How my move to Florida made me realize I'd let health become my hobby... and my entire identity. Why you don't need to discover your forever hobby. You just need to get curious again. My very average attempts at pickleball, mahjong, and the hobbies that definitely aren't making the cut. A simple experiment to help you reconnect with the part of yourself that isn't trying to be productive all the time. Because maybe you don't need another plan. Maybe you just need to remember how to have fun again. Give it a listen, then take the free quiz: What Room in Your Life Needs Attention? It's zero homework and it'll tell you exactly where to start. Stop Waiting for Permission to Rest|366
Have you built a beautiful life but gotten so busy managing it that you forgot to actually enjoy it? In this Fit Girl Magic episode, I’m talking with Latesha Lynch about why joy, rest, and pleasure keep getting shoved into the “someday” pile. We unpack the invisible stress we swear we don’t have, why sitting down can feel strangely uncomfortable, and how we’ve managed to turn self-care into yet another checklist. We also talk about experimenting with hobbies without immediately buying all the equipment, joining the league, and making it your entire personality. You’re allowed to try something and decide you hate it. You’re also allowed to sit on your couch without explaining yourself to a committee. Inside this episode, we get into: · Why a happy life can still be a stressful one · The difference between building a good life and being present enough to enjoy it · How tiny moments of joy can create an “upward spiral” · Why rest doesn’t require a signed permission slip · How to figure out what you enjoy, not what Instagram says you should enjoy · Why your hobbies, routines, and needs are allowed to change · Latesha’s five “unbothered types” and how her quiz helps you discover yours · How one small moment of silly can make an ordinary day better If your body is begging you to sit your ass down while your brain keeps whispering, “Just one more thing,” press play. Then take my free quiz, What Room in Your Life Needs Attention? It’ll help you see which part of your life has been quietly collecting dust while you’ve been busy handling everything else. She's got the screenshots, the podcast queue, the pros-and-cons list, and 17 open tabs. What she doesn't have? Certainty. And that's the one thing she's waiting on before she'll move. This episode's about the difference between gathering information and collecting permission. Because life isn't a final exam, and nobody's standing next to you with a red pen. You'll hear: Why smart women get stuck researching instead of doing One question that tells you if you need more info — or just permission Why "someday" is where good ideas go to collect dust Why a small experiment beats another pros-and-cons list Your experiment this week: pick one "someday" thing and experience it instead of researching it. No new tab. No asking five more people. No ChatGPT rabbit hole. One small move. You didn't fail. You found out. Stop researching and find out which room's missing, take the quiz below. Are Your Adult Kids Ready for the Real World?|364
Remember when adulting meant bringing a calculator to the grocery store so you didn't have to put things back at checkout, and wondering why it cost so much just to turn on the lights? Parents don't want to watch their kids struggle the way they did. So, they help. Proofreading the resume, that's normal. Making the follow-up phone call for them? That's where it gets murky. Parents step in because they love their kids. But when does helping stop helping? I don't have kids myself, but I do get a front row seat watching friends and clients live this exact thing right now. So, I brought in career coach and former recruiter Liz Lewine, she's interviewed thousands of candidates over 20 years, to talk about what she's actually seeing with teens and young adults entering the workforce, the skills they're missing, and the ways well-meaning parents get in the way without realizing it. We get into: A degree gets them in the room. It doesn't get them the job The soft skill employers actually want? Showing up and being easy to work with. That's it. Let them fail. It's the fastest way they'll ever learn anything, and yes it's going to kill you a little to watch. How to help them become independent without feeling like you shoved them off a cliff What to actually do if your adult kid's back living in your house One question to ask yourself before you jump in to "help" If your kid's headed to college, just graduated, or you're quietly plotting how to get Johnny off the payroll this one's for you. The Real Reason Women Over 40 Are Stuck: It's Not Discipline| 362
Have you ever caught yourself saying, "That's just who I am," or "I've always been this way"? What if that story is the very thing keeping you stuck? This week, I'm joined by business psychologist Ryann Gillen for a conversation about identity, mindset, and why lasting change has so much less to do with willpower than we've been led to believe. While Ryann works with entrepreneurs, the ideas we discuss apply to every area of life, including your health, relationships, career, and the way you see yourself. One of my biggest takeaways from this conversation was this: the things you think other people are judging you for are often the judgments you're already holding about yourself. Once you hear Ryann explain it, you'll never look at self-talk the same way again. We also unpack why "just try harder" is terrible advice for most women. If you've convinced yourself you're a bad sleeper, an emotional eater, or someone who just isn't consistent, your brain will keep looking for evidence that those stories are true. In this episode, we discuss: Why hustle and alignment aren't actually opposites When moving the goalpost is healthy, and when it's driven by fear Why regulating your nervous system comes before changing your habits How your identity shapes your behaviors and ultimately your results Practical ways to start rewriting the stories you've been telling yourself If you've ever wondered why knowing what to do isn't the same as actually doing it, this episode is for you. This week I'm talking about my third persona, Faye — the one who looks the least lonely and might be the loneliest of all. I get into the stats (loneliness is worse for you than obesity, yes really), why your 50s quietly wreck your social life, and the play-by-play of how I made a friend at a restaurant without exchanging a single phone number. In this episode: Why Faye is the sneakiest persona of the four The loneliness stats nobody wants to look at What changes in your 50s and 60s that nobody warns you about My real-time "Faye in the wild" story from a restaurant (rocks glass included) Why making friends as an adult feels exactly like bad dating The one tiny move that actually rebuilds connection Overview of all personalities Take the quiz: which persona are you — Brenda, Tammy, Faye, or Iris?

GLP-1s, Food Noise & The Real Secret to Keeping Weight Of | 360
Everyone is talking about GLP-1s right now. Some women swear they've changed their lives. Others are side eyeing them from across the internet. And most are somewhere in the middle at 11pm Googling "should I just get the shot" or just diet harder. No judgment. That's why we're here. I brought on Shenelle Green, bariatric coach, surgery patient and honestly one of the most no-BS guests I've ever had on this show. Before she recommends anything to anyone, she asks one question: "Tell me everything you ate yesterday." Because that answer tells her more than any bloodwork ever could. We went everywhere in this one. GLP-1s, bariatric surgery, food addiction, the scale holding your entire mood hostage, and the moment Shenelle hit her goal weight and realized, wait, that's it? No confetti? Just another Tuesday? Yeah. We talked about that. Because nobody warns you that the weight coming off doesn't fix the shitty job, the shitty relationship, or the 30 years of all-or-nothing thinking that got you here. And if you don't deal with that stuff, the weight is just the first thing on a very long list. This Fit Girl Magic episode is for the woman who's GLP curious, the one who's already on them and wondering why it's not going the way she expected, and the one who's just tired of doing everything right and still feeling stuck. Stop Starting Over: Summer Habits That Actually Stick for Women Over 40|359
Who decided health only counts if you do all of it? Somewhere along the way, many of ladies of over 40 bought into the idea that being healthy means meal prepping every bite, never missing a workout, tracking everything, and starting over the second life gets messy. In this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode, I'm calling BS on that whole approach. I share how years of fitness competition prep turned me into the poster child for all-or-nothing thinking, why so many women keep bouncing between "I'll get back on track in September" and "July has to look exactly like February," and the simple question that changed everything: What can I actually keep doing? You'll also get a behind-the-scenes look at my new Feet Up Summer experiment and why I believe health works better when it's built around your life instead of becoming your life. If you're tired of starting over every Monday, waiting for the perfect time, or treating yourself like a never-ending self-improvement project, this episode is for you. In this episode: • Why all-or-nothing thinking keeps you stuck • The fitness competition lesson that changed my perspective on health • The difference between habits you can survive for 30 days and habits you can sustain for 300 days • Why summer doesn't need to be a season of "falling off track" • Why one habit that sticking beats 26 habits you can't maintain You don't need another plan. You might just need habits that fit your life. Join Feet Up Summer: A free 26-day health experiment for women who are done starting over every Monday and ready to make health feel a whole lot easier. Why Type A Women Feel Like They’re Hitting a Wall|358
If your doctor has ever told you, "Everything looks normal," while you sat there knowing something felt completely off, this episode is for you. This week, I’m joined by Elizabeth Gaines, FDN Practitioner and Director of Education at FDN Training, to talk about what happens when stress, burnout, and years of pushing through finally catch up with you. After years working in a high-pressure nonprofit supporting victims of trafficking, Elizabeth found herself exhausted, struggling with chronic fatigue, digestive issues, hormone imbalances, and a body that no longer felt like her own. Yet every conventional test came back "normal." In this conversation, we unpack: ✔️ The difference between diagnostic testing and functional testing ✔️ Why so many women feel terrible despite being told they're "fine" ✔️ How chronic stress impacts cortisol, hormones, energy, mood, and motivation ✔️ Why supplements aren't the magic fix social media makes them out to be ✔️ The surprising signs your body may be running on empty ✔️ Why walking might be the most underrated form of exercise ✔️ The power of 30-day experiments instead of all-or-nothing lifestyle changes ✔️ How productivity culture keeps women trapped in burnout ✔️ Why rest, community, hobbies, and joy aren't luxuries. They're part of your health plan. One of my favorite moments in the conversation was when Elizabeth said: "We're trying to pay back the gift of our lives with our labor. If that's the deal, we can never stop working because the debt never clears." If you've been feeling tired, irritable, unmotivated, overwhelmed, or like your body isn't responding the way it used to, this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode will leave you with a completely different way of looking at stress, health, and recovery. Do You Identify As Busy?
I used to sneak out of the office on a random Tuesday at 2pm to get my eyebrows done and feel like that was what success looked like. First in, last out. Fitbit hitting 1,000 steps before sunrise. Lunch inhaled at my desk. Busy wasn't a compliment, it was a personality. And then one day I caught myself rushing through a 30-minute lunch with my husband. In my own house. On my own schedule. That's when I realized the problem wasn't my calendar. It was my conditioning. In this Fit Girl Magic episode, I'm breaking down the four ways women over 40 quietly blow themselves off, and handing each one a specific challenge to start undoing it. You'll know exactly which one you are by the time we're done. Maybe two. (I've been all four, sometimes in the same week.) How to Exercise Safely in Extreme Heat |356
If you think heat exhaustion only happens to hikers in Death Valley or people running ultramarathons in the desert… think again. This week on the Fit Girl Magic Podcast, I’m sitting down with Shannon from the American Red Cross to talk about something a lot of us completely underestimate: HEAT. And listen… as women over 40, our bodies don’t always regulate temperature the same way they used to. Add hormones, medications, humidity, dehydration, caffeine, stubbornness (“I’m fine!”), and that one friend still jogging at noon in 97 degrees… and things can go sideways fast. We’re breaking down: ▶️ The difference between heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke ▶️ How much water you actually need before and during workouts ▶️ Why humidity feels like running through soup ▶️ Whether electrolytes are worth the hype ▶️ The safest times to work out in the summer ▶️ How cities are literally trying to cool themselves down ▶️ The warning signs your body is overheating before it becomes dangerous We also talk about: • Why “more sweat = better workout” is mostly diet culture nonsense • Why your giant iced coffee is NOT hydration • Why your body at 45 isn’t the same body you had at 25 • And how to stop treating heat like it’s “not that serious” Your body can do amazing things… but not when it’s dehydrated and angry. This episode is basically your official permission slip to: ✔️ Carry the giant emotional support water bottle ✔️ Stop proving yourself in 95-degree weather Because no one gets a medal for overheating in a parking lot fitness class. Grab your water bottle, your electrolytes, and maybe a cooling towel if you’re fancy… and let’s survive summer like hydrated queens. Ever feel like your old routine just… stopped fitting your life? Yeah. Same. In this Fit Girl Magic episode, I'm coming to you from my new home in Jupiter, Florida after leaving behind 30 years of life in Boston. My gym. My people. My routines. My favorite grocery stores. My 20 pair of perfectly organized black leggings. And somewhere between packing tape, moving boxes, and wondering why strangers in Florida keep talking to me at the grocery store… I realized something: A lot of us are trying to force old versions of ourselves into lives we've already outgrown. We keep thinking: "If I could just get back on track…" But what if you're not off track? What if your life is simply asking for something different now? We're talking about: Why your old routines may no longer work in this season of life The difference between standards and rigid routines Letting fitness support your life instead of run it Why rest, play, and connection don't have to be earned Plus: My first mahjong lesson. The emotional support black leggings debate with Philip. And why I'm currently living out of blue plastic bags questioning every life decision. Consistency Isn’t a Discipline Problem for Women Over 40|354
If white knuckling my way through a meal plan actually worked, I wouldn’t have felt like I was starting over at least 1million times. But here we are… blaming willpower for a cycle that clearly isn’t working. This week on Fit Girl Magic, I’m sitting down with coach and author Nicole Zapoli to bust the myth that discipline is the missing piece. Spoiler: it’s not. What’s actually driving (or tanking) consistency? Self-worth. We break down the difference between self-worth and self-confidence (not the same thing, and the order matters), why chasing a physical goal that has nothing to do with the scale can completely change how you see yourself, and how to stay in it when life does what it always does… and blows up your plan. Plus, I share the story of a client in her 70s who went hiking in Switzerland and didn’t make anyone wait. That one sticks. In this episode: Why discipline isn’t the goal — and what actually works The difference between self-worth and self-confidence (and why order matters) How I block time for myself like it’s non-negotiable Building consistency when life is actually busy Why a pull-up does more for your self-image than any mirror pep talk What self-trust really is and how you build it How to pivot when the week blows up (without waiting for Monday) Links Facebook group

You haven’t hit rock bottom. You’re not in crisis. But somewhere along the way… you stopped choosing you. And lately? It’s getting loud. This week I’m sitting down with Angela Burke on what she calls radical self-possession, the moment you stop managing everyone else’s life so well… you forget you have one. It’s not woo woo nonsense. It’s not journaling your way to “inner peace”. It’s deciding you’re done blowing yourself off. What we get into The sneaky way women lose themselves, it’s never dramatic, that’s the problem Why “playing small” usually started as a really smart survival move Whispers vs. the explosion: how to change your life without blowing it up Grieving the life you thought you’d have (not failure… just data) Why “no” without a dissertation might be the most powerful sentence you own Links Facebook group

Why Your Old Fitness Routine No Longer Fits Your Life |352
I spent 30 years in Boston surviving winters that would break a lesser human. I scraped my car, wore 500 layers, and never once looked outside during a snowstorm and thought magical. So yeah… I’m out. Florida-bound. While packing up my house, I cracked open a closet I hadn’t touched in a decade and found a box of Old Kim I’d been dragging around for 20+ years. That moment sent me down a rabbit hole about all the stuff we carry long after it stops fitting: chasing skinny clothes you haven’t worn since the early 2000s old rules that made sense for a version of you that doesn’t exist anymore This Fit Girl Magic podcast episode is part life update, part permission slip. And yeah… it might call you out a little. The goods: Why we keep choosing predictable over what we actually want Why “waiting until you’re ready” is a trap with no exit Why your 32-year-old workout routine has zero business showing up in your life right now What a random box in my closet taught me about identity Why nine months of three consistent things will change your body more than any 90-minute gym session Two years to unrecognizable. I said what I said. Why “ready” is a state of mind, not a finish line And yes… I compare getting healthier to pregnancy. It’ll make sense Coming up: A really good conversation on identity dropping in a couple of weeks. Don’t skip it. So make sure that follow to not miss any updates. Hit follow. This Flip Flop Life era is just getting started… and it’s about to get real interesting. Links Facebook group Tik Tok @kimbarnesjefferson Instagram Website: http://www.kimbarnesjefferson.com

Over 40? It’s Time to Ditch the Complicated Skincare Routine|351
Over 40? It’s Time to Ditch the Complicated Skincare Routine Have you ever looked at your skin and thought… Why is it suddenly so dry? Why does it react to everything? Why did the routine that used to work completely stop working? Friend… it may not be your skin. It may be your overcomplicated skincare routine. In this Fit Girl Magic podcast drepisode, I sit down with Dr. Mimi Vega, biotech scientist and skin microbiome expert, to unpack why so many women over 40 are unknowingly making their skin worse while trying to “fix” it. Yep. Those expensive serums… The double cleansing… The exfoliating… The 9-step beauty routine TikTok swears by… Might be the exact reason your skin is freaking out. In this episode we cover: What the skin microbiome actually is and why it matters Why over-cleansing may be wrecking your skin barrier The real reason skin gets dry, reactive, and unpredictable in midlife How hormonal changes affect your skin during perimenopause and menopause Why more skincare products do not equal better skin The biggest skincare myths women over 40 still believe How to simplify your routine and support your skin instead of fighting it If your skin has felt more sensitive, dryer, or more “what the hell is happening here?” lately… this episode will connect a LOT of dots. Hit play if: You’re tired of buying products that work for five minutes You’re over the skincare industry convincing you that you need 17 steps You want to understand what your skin actually needs in midlife Let me know what lands for you after listening and tag me on Instagram with your biggest takeaway. Before You Buy a Weighted Vest… Listen to This|349
You're already walking… but somehow, you've convinced yourself it's "not enough." So now you're side-eyeing a weighted vest… thinking this is the thing that's finally going to make it work. Because this is exactly how women end up with a closet full of "I should be using this" fitness equipment. I brought in Kayla Girgen to cut through the nonsense, and we cover: rucking vs. weighted vests (spoiler: it's not about which one looks cooler) how to start without turning this into a whole production the biggest mistake women make — and yes, it's probably yours too why you keep thinking you need to do more… when you don't Here's the part nobody wants to hear: You don't need a harder workout. You need one you'll actually do… consistently. Some days that's a weighted walk. Some days it's just a walk. Both count. If this episode called you out (just a little): Take the "Is Your Metabolism Tired AF?" quiz Because you're not inconsistent… you're just trying to push in a season that needs you to chill a bit. It's Time to Stop Following BS Diet Advice from the 90s|348
I'm literally sitting in my closet right now, surrounded by moving boxes, recording this episode. Because life is lifing. And midlife doesn't wait for perfect conditions. But I had to hit record, because I keep seeing way too many smart, capable women beating themselves up over plans that stopped working years ago. Let me paint you a picture. A few months ago, a woman told me she asked ChatGPT for a 1,200-calorie meal plan. I almost fell off my chair. WHY are we still doing this? Unless you're a toddler, ladies please stop starving yourself. This isn't a willpower problem. It's a your-body-changed-and-no-one-updated-the-rules problem. Because here's the truth: the old "eat less, do more" formula didn't just stop working. It's now working against you. And yet most women keep going back to it. Like texting an ex, you go back hoping it'll be different, and it ends exactly the same. In this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode, I'm breaking down what's actually going on and why trying harder is the very thing keeping you stuck. Plus, the shift that finally got me out of the cycle, without another diet, detox, or starting over on Monday. You'll hear: · Why your metabolism isn't broken (even if it feels like it is) · The real reason discipline keeps "failing" you — and what's actually going on · What changes when you stop white knuckling every meal · The simple shift that makes consistency feel doable in your actual life If you've been thinking, "I swear I'm doing everything right… so why isn't this working?", this one's for you. Think the Midlife Metabolism Method might be your thing? How to Stand Out on Linked In |347
Most people treat LinkedIn like that old gym membership… You know it’s there. You just haven’t used it in years. In this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode, I’m talking with LinkedIn strategist Katie Corliss about how to stop treating LinkedIn like a dusty online résumé and start using it as a tool that actually works for you. Because whether you love your job, hate it, or are thinking about your next move… your career affects every part of your life. And the good news? You don’t need to post every day or spend hours on the platform. Katie says 30 minutes a day and 2–3 posts a week is plenty. The Real Reason Women Over 40 Struggle With Consistency|346
Think your problem is consistency? A lot of women over 40 believe that if they could just be more disciplined, more motivated, or more consistent… everything would finally click. But what if the problem isn’t you? What if the real issue is that your life is full and your bandwidth has changed? Between work, family schedules, travel, stress, sleep changes, and hormones doing their own thing, many women are trying to follow the same health plan they used in their 30s. And that’s where things start to break down. In this episode of Fit Girl Magic, we’re talking about why so many smart women think they’re failing… when in reality they’re trying to force the wrong strategy into the wrong season of life. In This Episode I dive into: • Why “just be more consistent” is terrible advice for midlife women • The real reason your old diet or workout plan stopped working • Why willpower and discipline usually aren’t the issue • The difference between Push, Pull, and Hold-the-Line seasons in your health • Why forcing fat loss during the wrong season creates friction • How thinking in 90-day plans can help healthy habits finally stick You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re trying to run a high-intensity plan with midlife bandwidth. Once your strategy matches your current season of life, things start to feel a lot less like swimming upstream. Why You Feel Off Even When Everything Looks “Normal” | 345
Magic makers, if you've been feeling "off" even though you're doing ALL the things, this Fit Girl Magic episode is for you. I sit down with Dr. Nayan Patel to talk about glutathione, the antioxidant your doctor probably never mentioned, but should have. Dr. Patel calls it the third most crucial element your body needs, right after air and water. Yeah, it's THAT important. Think of it as your body's built-in rust remover. When glutathione runs low, oxidative stress takes over, and suddenly you're dealing with brain fog, stubborn weight, low energy, bad sleep, and that overall "not myself" feeling that's hard to explain but impossible to ignore. In this episode: · Why feeling off is usually a slow burn, not a sudden drop · Simple ways to boost glutathione naturally (no pricey supplements needed) · How everyday toxins, food, environment, even your beauty products, quietly drain your reserves · The surprising connection to skin, hair, and nails · Dr. Patel's research on actually getting glutathione INTO your cells (plus his own health transformation) · Why meditation might be even more powerful than glutathione itself Practical, eye-opening, and zero fluff. Are You Ready for Fat Loss… Or Just Frustrated With Your Body?|344
Before you jump into another fat loss phase… I want us to pause for a second. Because if dieting has "almost worked" for you the last five years… why do you feel like you need to start over again? In this Fit Girl Magic podcast episode, I'm calling out one of the biggest midlife mistakes I see on repeat: Most women don't have a fat loss problem. They have a readiness problem. You might be sitting there thinking — WTF does that even mean? Stick with me. Because it's not about how bad you "want" fat loss. Let's be honest, who doesn't? But here's what nobody's talking about: forcing a perma-diet when your body is already tapped out isn't discipline. It's just making things worse. Your body might just need a breather before it can actually do the thing you're asking it to do. If you've been running on fumes by mid-afternoon, white-knuckling your hunger, mentally negotiating every bite, or doing all the "right" things and somehow still feeling like garbage… this episode is your permission slip to stop pushing and start getting strategic. I'm talking about how to actually tell where your body is at and whether it's time to push, pull back, or just hold the line. Because fat loss in the wrong season doesn't just not work. It keeps you stuck in the same loop year after year. You are not broken. Your timing might just be off. In This Episode We Get Into: Why wanting it badly isn't your problem, the sneaky signs your body is running on empty, my 5-question gut check so you can stop guessing, why maintenance is actually a skill (and why it matters more than you think), and the 3-gear strategy that changes everything: Push, Pull Back, or Hold the Line. Sometimes the most strategic move isn't doing more. It's doing less, on purpose. Ready to Figure Out Where You're At? I made a quiz for exactly this moment: 👉 Is Your Metabolism Tired AF? It takes few minutes and tells you whether your body is ready to push, pull back, or hold the line. No more winging it. Go take it, I think you'll find it really eye-opening. Intermittent Fasting After 40: Tool or Just Another Diet in Disguise?| 343
Alright, Magic Makers… we are going there today. Intermittent fasting. Some people swear by it. Some people swear at it. And most midlife women are stuck in the middle wondering: 👉 Should I be skipping breakfast?👉 Is fasting helping my metabolism… or quietly stressing my body out?👉 And why does everything feel harder after 40? In this Fit Girl Magic episode, I’m joined by registered dietitian and diabetes care specialist Ashley Bazell to cut through the noise and give you the real, grown-woman perspective on fasting. Because here’s the truth… Fasting can be a helpful tool. But it is not a personality trait. And it is definitely not one-size-fits-all in midlife. We talk about what actually happens in your body, who benefits most, when it can backfire, and how to stop turning your eating schedule into another all-or-nothing stress fest. If you’ve been low-key confused about fasting, your energy, your cravings, or your midlife metabolism… this one is for you. Inside this episode, we cover: What intermittent fasting actually is (and what it isn’t) Why many women over 40 are already under-fueled The difference between intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting How fasting impacts body composition, visceral fat, and muscle The truth about fasting and metabolism slowdown GLP-1 medications and where fasting may or may not fit Signs fasting is helping your body… and red flags it’s too much Simple ways to support blood sugar and energy without extreme dieting Why sleep, strength training, and consistency still matter most Key takeaway: You don’t get bonus points for suffering. The goal isn’t to eat less and push harder. The goal is to support your body in a way you can actually sustain. Midlife health works best when we stop forcing and start paying attention. Why You’re Doing Everything Right and Still Gaining Weight After 40|342
For years, you did what you were told. Eat less. Move more. More cardio. Smaller portions. Be disciplined. And for a while? It worked. Until it didn’t. In this Fit Girl Magic episode, I’m sharing my own story as a former fitness competitor who spent nine years controlling every bite, every rep, every inch of my body… and what happened when menopause knocked me flat and the old strategies stopped working. If you feel like you’re doing “all the right things” but your body isn’t responding anymore, this episode is for you. We’re talking about: Why weight loss after 40 feels harder What metabolic adaptation really is How years of dieting can slow your metabolism Why strength training matters more than endless cardio The truth about muscle loss after 35 Why eating more might actually be part of the solution How to measure progress beyond the scale Most women spend 17 years dieting. Many try over 100 diets in their lifetime. And when those strategies stop working, we assume we failed. But the truth? Your body adapted. Undereating. Overtraining. On-again, off-again dieting. Decades of “trying harder.” Your body learned to survive on less. And now it needs something different. If the scale hasn’t moved but your clothes feel different… If you feel softer even though you’re working out… If you’re scared to eat more but exhausted from eating less… This conversation will help you understand what’s really happening inside your body in midlife. You are not lazy. You are not broken. You don’t lack willpower. Your strategy just no longer matches your biology. Ready to Find Out What Your Body Actually Needs? Take the quiz: Is Your Metabolism Tired AF? Inside, you’ll discover whether you need to: Restore Rebuild Refine Or Reveal No more guessing. No more doubling down on the wrong plan. The link is in the show notes. After you take it, send me a DM and tell me what you got. Let’s stop managing your body like it’s a problem… and start working with it instead.
