It was the first he'd heard that Key, a cardiac nurse, had knitted him a scarf of wool from Ramses, the mascot of their alma mater UNC Chapel Hill. She'd spun the wool on a spinning wheel her father had crafted for her despite severe nerve damage to his hands incurred from a machine gun in the war.
