Oil & Gas: CEO Steve Blackwell- part II (Ep.86)

Oil & Gas: CEO Steve Blackwell- part II (Ep.86)
Today is the conclusion of my conversation with Steve Blackwell, CEO of Invito Energy Partners. In part I, Steve and I talked about oil & gas from an investment standpoint, and how not all oil & gas opportunities are equal, nor do all carry the same risk. For part II, we pivot to the unique tax benefits that oil & gas can offer, as this is what draws so many investors into the space. We talk about how an investment into oil & gas can be used to directly offset taxable income, but how it has to be done properly in order to qualify. We discuss who may benefit from an allocation to oil & gas, and just as importantly, who likely would not benefit. We also list off a handful of situations where the immediate tax reduction could be a powerful strategy as a one-time or ongoing use (paying tax on Roth conversion, sale of a business/farm, inheriting IRA funds that lead to higher AGI, offsetting taxable impact of year-end bonuses, “widow’s penalty,” reducing Medicare IRMAA). As a reminder, none of this should be taken as investment advice, as a personalized conversation is needed to determine if oil & gas, or any of the strategies we discuss on this show, are right for you and your situation. Further, the opportunity we discuss today is only available to accredited investors, which at the time of this recording, means having in income of $200k plus per year (or $300k joint income), or having an excess of $1 million of investable assets (not including your home). In the show notes, you can find Invito's executive summary with part one, and a tax benefits guide with this episode. You can also simply reach out if you would like to learn more about this opportunity. *this episode was recorded in video format- visit our to watch Connect with Loren: Email: hello@integrityguidance.com

Oil & Gas: CEO Steve Blackwell- part I (Ep.85)
Today I'm joined by Steve Blackwell, CEO of Invito Energy Partners. Steve and his managing partner, Jared Christianson, have a long history and vast experience in the oil & gas space. As an investment opportunity, oil & gas can be a powerful addition to a portfolio, as its returns are not directly tied to the market like many traditional investments, and it offers unique tax benefits, but only if done the right way. While the tax benefits often lead the conversation when it comes to oil & gas, today we look at this solely from an investment perspective, because at the end of the day, all of the tax benefits in the world don't help us if the investment does not perform. As always, none of this should be taken as investment advice, as a personalized conversation is needed to determine if oil & gas, or any of the strategies we discuss on this show, are right for you and your situation. Further, the opportunity we discuss today is only available to accredited investors, which at the time of this recording, means having in income of $200k plus per year (or $300k joint income), or having an excess of $1 million of investable assets (not including your home). Retirement Risks Analysis (Ep. 84)

Retirement Risks Analysis (Ep. 84)
This is a quick impromptu episode where I hopped on the microphone after a couple of client meetings to share some thoughts. In the first half, I talk about the role of the advisor, specifically how it’s important for advisors to push back and challenge clients who have strong convictions regarding how to best invest their portfolio. At the end of the day, it’s the client’s money and they have the final say in how to invest, but I think it’s through this push-pull dynamic that we can arrive at the best answers. In the second half of this episode, I share my screen to walk through our Retirement Risks Analysis, which is a complimentary service we offer prospective clients. This is a review of 15 retirement risks, each color-coordinated so you can quickly identify strengths and weaknesses in your planning. This process helps us mutually determine if there is a good fit for a working relationship, and gives us some specific areas to improve so we can hit the ground running. I hope you enjoy this episode, and if you’d like your own Retirement Risks Analysis personalized to you and your situation, get started with the “Share More & Get in Touch” link below, or shoot us a quick email with “Retirement Risks Analysis” in the subject line. *this episode was recorded in video format, so you'll get the most out of it by visiting our and watching there Connect with Loren: Email: hello@integrityguidance.com

This is certainly a different type of episode than others I've recorded, as the tables are turned and I am on the receiving end of questions. I had the opportunity to sit down with Dennis Mattern, who had lots of questions about our firm, Integrity Wealth Management. After sharing this episode with their audience, Dennis and his team were gracious enough to share their video with me. So not only is it a change of pace to be on the receiving end of questions, but this episode is also unique as you can watch the video of our conversation here: Topics we cover on today's show: We start off (as we often do) explaining our unique fee structure, and how the phrase "we do well when you do well" can be misleading. We talk about who our firm is a good fit for (and what happens if we are not). We discuss tax planning, the importance of a fiduciary relationship, and if the term "fee-only" is really all that it's cracked up to be. We wrap up by coming full circle back to the topic of fees, and how clients get more excited about the money they save, not only when they see these funds grow in a separate account, but when they are earmarked for something exciting.
