Uplifting Student Voices: Stories of Purpose and Persistence with Chelsea Talley and Chrischen Thompson
What drives a student to keep going even when life gets hard? In this episode I sit down with two powerful student leaders who share exactly that. You will hear from Chelsea Talley and Chrischen Thompson, two passionate student advocates who are working hard in their communities and on their campuses. Episode Highlights The importance of knowing your "why" in pursuing your career goals Navigating challenges as a non-traditional and first generation student The role of mentorship in student success Mental health, housing insecurity, and the college experience How student advocacy and community involvement shapes leadership About the Guests Chelsea Talley is a passionate advocate for equity in higher education and a dedicated student leader. She earned her associate degree from Tarrant County College, where she served as Student Government President and Secretary of the Black Student Union. Now pursing her bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology at Abilene Christian University. Beyond academics, Chelsea is an active member of the Texas Association of Black Professionals in Higher Education (TABPHE) Legislative Team, working to advance policies that support student success. She also aspires to create a scholarship for non-traditional students, recognizing the unique challenges they face in pursuing higher education. Chrischen Thompson is a non-traditional student, advocate, and storyteller passionate about transforming higher education. Mr. Thompson has overcome housing insecurity, imposter syndome and financial hardship. Through all of his challenges he has stayed focused in building a future rooted in purpose, equity and impact. Serving as a student leader, Chrischen has testified before lawmakers, helped developed mentorship programs that support first generation and underserved students. He believes in turning the power of turning personal struggles into systems of support for others. He is also a huge Harry Potter fan and enjoys writing. He is committed to helping students navigate their path and inspiring them through his journey to keep going.
