And Ashley brings us home with the story of the FORTY ELEPHANTS - an all-female London crime syndicate who terrorized the UK for multiple centuries specializing in SHOPLIFTING. They used the class and sex stereotypes of their day to their advantage, sewing secret compartments into their layers and layers of clothing, crossdressing, manipulating, blackmailing and even full on mugging to steal millions of dollars worth of goods from THE MAN. There's No Place Like Home: Live from Centralia! Hail to the Cardinal, Hail to the White, Weirdos!! Welcome to a very special Halloween episode-- It's our WEIRD CENTRALIA LIVE SHOW!! This month Lauren and Ashley had the pleasure of traveling to Centralia, IL to perform to a sold out audience at the Centralia Area Historical Society Museum! We got to chat about ALL THINGS C-TOWN including, but not limited to: The Orphans, May Fete, the Thunderbird, Violin Anne, the 1947 Mine Disaster, Copple's Mansion, the Perrine House & Perrine's Orchard! We laugh, we cry, we SCREAM - this episode is a lot of things. I HIGHLY recommend watching this ep on YOUTUBE ( as we also did have a slideshow presentation and you'll be able to see all the things the audience is reacting to: Old photos, newspaper clippings, even a couple videos! This was one of the most special weekends of our lives and that's all because of the people of Centralia. Everyone who shared their stories with us, taught us about the town's history, invited us to the town museum (Thank you Rick Dodson, Mike Middleton and Jessycka Nix Coleman!) FED us (thank you Simply Soul LLC!) rented us a place to stay (thank you Mallory Fisk!) lent us some audio visual equipment and bought tickets and came out to see our show. We were floored! This show was meant to be a CELEBRATION of Centralia and I do believe we accomplished our goal. I feel closer to my hometown than ever before... and maybe a little more creeped out by it. Ashes to Ashes Dust to Dust, Weirdos! Welcome back to KEEP IT WEIRD!! The podcast for all things strange, unusual, paranormal, supernatural, creepy, gross, scary, sticky and everything in between! Everytime we get together we chat about something WEIRD and this episode is no exception. WE'RE BACK from a brief hiatus so dont mind us as we spend the first fifteen or so catching you up on life stuff but dont you worry we make our way to the strange quickly as Lauren brings us into a WHERE IN THE WORLD (is Keep It Weird Going?) and we travel (astrally) to NORWAY! Ålen, Norway to be exact in a 15 mile valley known as Hessdalen where for almost an entire century very strange lights have been appearing in the sky. No matter the weather, regardless of day or night these lights show up in bright whites, yellows and reds - sometimes for over an hour! Sometimes they streak through the sky, other times they sway slowly back and forth. But what the h e double hockey sticks are they?! UFOs?! Plasma? Ball lightning? A natural phenomenon we literally don't know about yet?! We break down the scientific discoveries that we DO know along with all the questions we still have about the HESSDALEN LIGHTS. Then Ashley takes a different look at the sky in an ITS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT! Something is headed our way and its massive. 3i/Atlas is the third interstellar object (that we have ever observed) to pass through our solar system and it's en route as we speak! Most experts believe it's a comet, although some are more skeptical of it's behavior. But that's not why we're here-- we're here to talk about what some OTHER folks believe this object to be. Something called the BLUE STAR KACHINA aka SAQUASOHUH- an apocalyptic prophecy from North America's own Hopi Native Tribes. This bright blue star is said to come from far away and crash into our skies in the "Day of Purification" and is described as a "world engulfing cataclysm" that will end life as we know it for everyone who isn't truly Hopi. The only problem is that the legend didn't actually come from Hopi legends and it was written by a white man in the 60s. OOPS!! Ah well, we'll get em' next time boys. Lauren finishes off the show with a mini segment called TIK TOKS THAT BRING ME JOY where she introduces us to three different content creators that have helped her get through the last month or so we've been away. Was actually a secret government experiment that they're desperately trying to cover all trace of? You tell us. Then Ashley introduces the story of Canada's most famous poltergeist- a case known as THE GREAT AMHERST MYSTERY! This story takes place between the years 1878 and 1880 where an 18 year old girl named Esther Cox and her family were tormented by an invisible force in their small cabin relentlessly for over a year. Objects moving on their own, loud booming knocks that shook the walls, objects going missing and then falling from the center of the ceiling, mysterious fires, a pesky corporeal trumpet, and even a few stabbings?! This case has HUNDREDS of witnesses and even converted a hardcore skeptic who lived with the family with the sole objective of proving them to be hoaxsters. And speaking of AI we have a quick TERRIFYING TECHNOLOGY to counteract how pumped we were to be friends with ChatGPT last time around. Ashley tells us about a new phenomenon people are calling "ChatGPT Induced Psychosis" wherein users of AI Chat Bots are losing their grip on reality, falling into spiritual rabbit holes, and destroying all the human relationships they have left. Lauren takes us into a segment we call WHERE IN THE WORLD where we travel to just outside of Hong Kong to a city that used to exist called KOWLOON where over 33,000 residents lived in only 350 buildings covering only .01 miles of space........... HOW?! Then we finish off with a very special DECLASSIFIED where Ashley takes us through the CIA DOC_0005517761 - Declassified back in 2000, this report describes a 250 page KGB file that contains photos, drawings and witness testimonies about a run in that soviet soldiers had with a UFO back in 1990 wherein 23 men were TURNED TO STONE. First we tackle some "old business" and check in with each other on the KAREN READ RETRIAL-- boy is that getting juicier and juicer by the day-- and Lauren shares a recent strange experience she had with a stick of eyeliner. Lauren kicks off the main event with A THOUGHT she had about time. Are there different times of the year, months-weeks-days, that harbor darkness? Why does it pour when it rains? Why is April the most cursed month in recent human history? Why do wars begin in August? Our ancestors had rituals to get us through these tougher months-- are we self perpetuating the fear and therefore the trauma? Could we benefit from ancient rituals to aid us in living through the tougher times? Then Ashley bursts through the door along with MISS FRIZZLE for some human body mysteries! Starting off with a phenomenon known as the "Returning Soldier Effect" and we question why more male children are born directly after war. Several theories have been presented, but it's still quite the mystery. Then we move on to FROZEN PEOPLE starting with the story of Jean Hillard who spent 6 hours freezing in the snow back in 1980 and SURVIVED!! Then we wrap up the episode discussing CRYONICS and the dangers of cryogenically freezing your body in the hopes of being reanimated when the technology catches up to the theoretical science in the future. Spoiler: We're not impressed. Then Ashley takes us into some CONSPIRACY THEORIES involving our favorite alphabet overlords-- the NSA and the CIA. First on the chopping block is the NSA and their involvement with 33 Thomas St NYC New York-- supposedly just a simple AT&T building until Edward Snowden leaked highly classified information back in 2014. After some pretty simple math it was discovered that that enormous spooky building was actually the largest NSA surveillance building on United States soil. Codename: TITANPOINTE. If you think AT&T being in cahoots with the NSA is bad... wait until you hear about Pepsi's connection to the CIA. Because next we discuss the conspiracy theory that MOUNTAIN DEW releases its new wacky flavors right before major disasters. Why, you ask? Well... that's... not an easy question to answer. But we sure try. Finally Lauren takes us into a REALITY TV CORNER and teaches us about an epic fail of a reality tv show called "Eden." It's also called "Eden: Paradise Lost" for a very dumb reason. Actually almost everything about this show was dumb, especially the part where they took it off the air and FORGOT TO TELL THE CAST AND CREW. From as far back as the 17th century we have been discovering strangely preserved BODIES in the bogs of Europe, some of which date all the way back to 8000 BC, and no one knows why they are there. The unique physical and biochemical composition of the peat bogs have kept some of these bodies preserved to the point that they still have hair, internal organs and even FOOD (and drugs) in their stomachs. Was this a popular dumping ground for murderers? Was it a holy place used for ritual sacrifice? Did these folks just wander into the bog? We may never know... Then Ashley is taking us DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE for a quest that takes us from Marine Mammal Law all the way to NHI (Non-Human Intelligence) theories as we read some stories about cetaceans, specifically DOLPHINS, and their potential to have special abilities far beyond our understanding. Can they communicate telepathically? Help heal the sick? Act as your doula? Control UFOs? It may sound crazy, but that's because we live in a crazy world.
