Johanny Reyes and I spoke about the reversal of roles, from being cared for to becoming the caregiver often influenced by unspoken rules and misconceptions in Latinx immigrant families. Topics in this segment include the common silence regarding illness, aging, and what support can look like as a caregiver. Johanny shares what it was like as the eldest daughter suddenly stepping into a caregiver role and how she learned to navigate this new identity while processing grief. The foundation is currently organizing support groups for families who have had a loved one deported under the current administration.** Today in this episode, I talked with Dr. Yessica Green Rosas about the importance of support groups and rapid responders in our current political climate. We explored how research data collected from pre- and post-tests can be used to advocate for funding, policy change, or expand mental health support for rapid responders. Dr. Yessica shared her experience with mental health and highlighted the importance of pre- and post tests for project like this, and moreover, why research matters.
