Twofer!!!! I'm covering both the feast of the Holy Family and Theotokos in one episode. Buckle up. Holy Family December 31, 2023 Theotokos January 1, 2024 Luke 2:16-40 I'm solo on this one. To be alone with Him. What are we willing to give up to be alone with Him? To take Him up into our arms as Simeon did? And/Or. Mary. Were you able to keep pondering things in your heart as you carried on into all the requirements of the Law of Israel surrounding the postpartum period? Circumcision for Jesus, check. Cleansing bath for Mary, check. Buy two turtle doves (pigeons are an adequate sub), check. Present Jesus, check. Mary- teach me to live my vocation and never stop pondering God in my heart.

Christmas 2023!
Luke 2:15-20 Psalm 97 Guest - Chris. my hubby of 24 plus years. surrounded by the mundanity of our kitchen table, we discuss salvation through the very same mundane. Through the car keys and empty Brita pitchers. Through the butter left out of the fridge and dogs wanting out. Can we see the salvation in banana bread? In shoes left helter skelter after a morning spent "Parkouring"? Can we hear Jesus calling us along the path when we see that pile of wet towels? never ending wet towels. And as cheesy as it sounds. As Home Goods and Rae Dunn as it sounds, LOVE is the most necessary ingredient. Without which everything falls apart. Fails to thrive.

Bonus recording! I know this isn't my normal schtick.... but my Well Read Mom book club is reading this for December and will discuss at the beginning of January. I find I understand poetry better when I read it out loud. And so I figured I would record and share here. Such a great poetry selection for Advent! I also think Lent would be an amazing time to re-read or listen to this. Mea Culpa- I shared it at a poorer quality so that I wouldn't suck up too much of my memory on this hosting site- I think it should still come across as adequate.

Canticle of Zechariah
10/13/2023
Canticle of Zechariah
For the people of Isreal I memorized this prayer last summer when our church had a competition for the Feast of St John. We have this big bonanza- bon fire, dunk tank, live music, food (locusts and honey), and fellowship. It's fun times on the longest day of the year! Since we've moved to the lake my mornning routine looks a bit different. We have a well so every morning I have to fill our 5 gallon water filter resevoir. I decided early on to couple this daily routine with prayer and I figured the Canticle of Zechariah would be good. As water pours out from the faucet and into the pitcher that I will then carry and dump into the filter the words begin almost automatically. But this morning I listened a bit differently. As I prayed it this morning I wondered..."what would the Jews think of these words as they sit litereally in the darkness of death's shadow." Blessed be the Lord, the God of Isreal for he has visted and brought redemption to his people He has raised up a horn of salvation from within the house of David, his servent as he promised through the mouths of his holy prophets from of old salvation from our enemies and freedom from those who hate us, to show mercy to our fathers, and to be mindful of his holy covenant and to the oath he swore to Abraham our father to grant us that free from our enemies we might worship him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days And you my child shall be called a prophet of the Most High for you will go before the Lord and prepare his ways and bring his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins through the tender mercy of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us to shine on those who dwell in darkness and deaths shadow and guide our feet into the paths of peace.

But he shares his reversion story- where this cradle Catholic wanders away, but finds his way back home. It's a bit lengthy - but worth every minute. If you just want to drop in for Lectio- it begins around minute 19. But please come back and listen to David share about how it's all true, ALL OF IT.

Matthew 21: 28-32 Psalm35 Guest- Matthew Ledford I have a guest! MJ's friend, KB, said her dad loves the Bible- so I told her he's got to come record! And he did! We hopped all over the back yard- starting at the dock, and ending on the back deck. It was so much fun to meet someone purely because we love God's word- and record at the same time! The Mary Challenge- Matt asks me, why do the Catholics raise Mary to such a high place? Where in the Bible does it say how special she is? We are swapping Bible passages and books- looking into translations of words that might mean she wasn't a perpetual virgin. Or maybe it means "cousin" and not "brother"? But when two are gathered in Jesus's name- there He is! So pull up a chair, and make it three!
