LUYL041 Slow and Steady Progress
Welcome to Level Up Your Life! The critical importance of slow, steady progress is what Mark Black will be talking about in today’s episode. While not the sexiest of topics, it’s super important when it comes to discussing the accomplishments of high achievers! Mark is no stranger to progress, as he spends the vast majority of his time teaching others how to achieve it, and yet even he fails to recognize the benefits of taking things slowly sometimes! Want to learn how to use the pace of progress to your advantage? Tune in to this episode and adopt a new outlook on things that can sometimes feel like they’re taking forever! Major significant change rarely happens quickly. Pick any problem and someone is out there offering a “quick solution”. Understanding how progress truly works will help you to appreciate the slow and steady pace it takes. Are you heading in the right direction? Celebrate the small wins alongside the big ones. Use long term vision and forgive yourself more freely for slipping up. The amazing thing about slow and steady progress. “We have lost, in my estimation, the value of patience, of endurance and of perseverance” “We sabotage our own success” “Most of the time, overnight successes are not that at all” “Pursuing anything is more about who you become in the process” “We don’t want to do things that are difficult or punishing so we stop doing it” “When you celebrate the small wins, you elevate them” “Ultimately it is the progress that is the reward” “If we quit, we’re never going to make progress” Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

LUYL040 ReCharge Your Batteries

LUYL040 ReCharge Your Batteries
Welcome to the podcast where we take your life, your work and your relationships to the next level! In this episode of Level Up Your Life, our host Mark Black discusses the value of recharging your batteries. It’s not always the easiest thing to do in today’s world of rushing and racing to get everything done, but prioritizing your rest, and relaxation can make a huge difference to how effective, safe and happy you can truly be! Mark shares some counterintuitive strategies that will make a significant difference in the way you feel, and shares very specific ways to help you rest, relax, recharge and get back to conquering your list of things to accomplish! You cannot function at the highest level if you don’t take the time to maintain yourself. Can Barack Obama recharge someone’s batteries?. Until you do THIS ONE THING, you will never perform at your best. More isn’t always better. Sometimes doing less is exactly what you need! Mark’s marathon training program seemed a little counter-intuitive, but made a lot of sense later on, and the results were a reflection of that. You just HAVE to sleep. There’s no escaping it. Embrace it. Here are some ways to get more sleep and better quality sleep! Exercising and socializing are more important than you actually think! Consider adding meditation to your day. “In order to have that energy you have to prioritise yourself” “You cannot give what you do not have” “What we do in the world takes a massive amount of energy” “One of the secrets of high performers is that they prioritize rest and rejuvenation” “At some point you’re actually doing more damage than good” “We live in a culture that has glorified going without sleep” “Sleep is a requirement and you just gotta figure out a way to make it happen” “A 20 minute nap can give you a significant boost in mental energy and focus” “ Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

LUYL038 Putting the Meaning into Meaningful Work with Eric Termuende
Are you engaged in meaningful work? Do you know what to look for? How about the word meaningful, do you feel you have a deep understanding of what it means and know how to tell if you’re on the right track? If you’re not sure about any of that, how about this: Do you like the people you work with? The job itself? The tasks you do? If so, then fantastic! You’re one of the rare people who have figured out how to be truly happy at work! But if it’s a no, or you’re just not sure, then this episode is definitely for you. I this episode of Level Up Your Life, Mark is joined by fellow speaker, author and podcast host Eric Termuende to discuss work, and more importantly, the meaning behind it. What starts off as a simple concept grows into a very high quality conversation about creating a life with less friction, and more happiness, and truly levelling up to your true potential. Mark and Eric also share their mutual opinion on the single most wasteful activity a person can spend time doing, and why taking responsibility for your own happiness is kind of a big deal. What is considered to be meaningful work? What is success? Resistance and challenge within the job could very well be a big part of what makes it fulfilling. How do you go about finding something you’ll enjoy? 5 questions to ask yourself when you want to know if you’re on the right track or not. You are responsible for your own joy and fulfillment. Can you be a little bit happier than yesterday? Not all advice is good advice for you. “I recognized at a very young age, because I was forced to, that our time is finite” - Mark “What is the life you want to live?” - Eric “We’re still trying to paint success with one broad stroke of a brush” - Eric “Who is working where at the places you frequence most?” - Eric “A ‘Why’ attracts talent, but a ‘How’ keeps it” - Eric “Outside of everyone we have contact with is a world of bystanders” - Eric “Maybe where we are right now is exactly where we need to be” - Eric “Where can there be more happiness?” - Eric More Eric! www.erictermuende.com Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

LUYL037 Are You Living Your Passion?
10/28/2019
LUYL037 Are You Living Your Passion?
What is your passion? Do you know what passion truly feels like? How do you find what you’re most passionate about if you know that what you’re doing right now isn’t it? A lot of people have a misconception about passion that often leaves them confused about what passion really is. They think that if they are passionate about something, it means that they have to enjoy every aspect of what it is they do. On today’s episode of Level Up Your Life, host Mark Black is here to tell us that it simply isn’t the case. Passion is not about loving everything about your job or hobby, it’s a lot deeper and more meaningful than that, and at the same time, a little more possible to attain than a perfect career. Whether you’re unsure of how to find your passion, don’t know what passion is, or want to reignite and old passion that you’ve lost in your journey, this episode is a great one for you! What exactly is passion? This is not an episode telling you to quit your job and follow your passion. What excites you? What makes you come alive? Do you truly dislike the job, or do you actually just dislike certain tasks? What are the things that you do where you lose track of time? What are you really good at without trying really hard? Do people ask you for advice on certain topics? “How do I know if I’m passionate?” “Just because you’re passionate about something doesn’t mean it’s not going to be hard” “What makes me come alive?” “What are the things that people admire you for?” “Because it comes easily to you doesn’t mean it comes easily to everyone” “Most things can be turned into a career or a business” “We love to watch people do what they do best” “There is always a price to pay to improve or get better” Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

Welcome to another episode of Level Up Your Life! In this episode, Mark Black welcomes Natalie Davison to the podcast! Natalie is the cofounder of Marrow Marketing! She’s also a speaker, and long time colleague of Mark’s, so you know it’s going to be a fun conversation! These two share a lot of things: stages, schools, even their very first motivational speaker! The energy of live events: What’s happening for the audience, and what’s happening behind the scenes to create such a buzz? Are you going to make this event something that can change your life? The kinds of people who attend events are the kinds of people you want to be around. “I really do like being at an age where I can some somebody has been my friend for decades” - Natalie “The older we get the more good memories we have. LUYL035 Do Hard Things!

LUYL035 Do Hard Things!
We all want to level up our lives, don’t we? In this episode, Mark Black is sharing what he believes is the number one tool to help you discover your full potential, ensure you’re operating at 100%, and help you grow into the person you were meant to be! What is the secret? Doing difficult or challenging things! While this may seem a little counterintuitive in a world where ease and convenience is taking over, the truth is that the more comfortable we get, the harder it is to handle life when it doesn’t go exactly the way we want it to. The result? Prolonged Unhappiness. When things go wrong, or are out of our control, we tend to drag out the resistance to the issue, the feelings of dissatisfaction, and even the anger or frustration surrounding the issue! Doing hard things won’t ensure that bad things never happen to you again, but it will make those bad things so much easier to deal with when they do arise. Does this sound like something you’d like to participate in? Click play and tune into this week’s episode of Level Up Your Life! Seeking out challenges and opportunities to face resistance can help you become a much more resilient person! Life was a lot more difficult 200 years ago than it is today, and so there was a lot more opportunity to face adversity than there is today. Is having things easier really a good thing? Is the challenge truly difficult, or is it our resistance to the challenge that makes it difficult? Learn to accept the things you cannot control. Discomfort won’t actually kill you, even if it feels like it might. Delayed gratification may be the ultimate secret to a fulfilling life! “Do the things in your life that you find difficult, challenging, annoying. Do those things” “We have come to equate easier with better” “The best way to become resilient is to get good at doing hard things” “Where are you spending most of your time and energy?” “Being uncomfortable helps me to realize that I’m okay” “Not getting everything you want is okay” “As soon as we fulfill one impulse, there’s another impulse” “The people who level up in their life do the hard things” Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

LUYL034 Dream Big; Start Small
Do you have big goals? Do you want to impact the world in a huge way? It’s truly amazing if you do! Massive vision and big, hairy audacious goals are pretty rare in a world where people would rather play it safe and small than risk failure. But what happens when your goals are so big that you find yourself getting overwhelmed or burning out? See, most people only address the Thinking Big part, very few really shed light on the significance of starting small. There are a lot of benefits to starting small and building the to level you want to be, rather than starting huge and putting too much pressure and stress on yourself. Don’t know how to do it? Tune into this episode of Level Up Your Life and let our host, Mark Black take you through the process and help you think big, and start exactly where you are! It’s crucial to have big goals and huge vision, but there is an equally important concept in starting small. Why do people try to talk you out of your goals? Setting goals is not about trying to predict your future. What happens when someone pushes you that little bit extra? Why is momentum so important and how do you build it? “Imagine a world where everybody was living at 100%” “If you don’t have expectations, if you don’t have any goals, then you have nothing to be disappointed about” “To have no goals, or to have very conservative goals misses the point completely” “A goal that’s useful should scare you a little bit” “I’m not interested in correctly predicting what I can accomplish” “The point of having a great vision is to get people excited” “We achieve to the level we expect” “There is nothing small minded about starting small, so long as the vision is big” “Dream a big dream and then break it down” Share the show! www.levelupyourlifepodcast.com More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

LUYL Ep.028 Why Consistency is Critical and How to Develop It
Ever hear the phrase “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? Well neither are good habits! Consistency takes time simply because consistent is the act of making the same decision over and over again! It sounds simple when it’s explained that way, but the truth is that consistency takes a lot of willpower, determination and discipline. That’s a lot less attractive. Luckily, on today’s episode of Level Up Your Life, Mark Black is taking us through 3 key strategies to becoming a more consistent person! Consistency plays a bigger role in significant impact than most people think! How do you build patience and develop consistency? 3 tactics that you can immediately implement to become more consistent and create long term results! Just Do Something! “Can you do what is required of you to get the results that you want, and can you do it with consistency?” “Common sense is not common practice” “The mindset around consistency needs to be process not product” “How quickly can you get back on track?” “It’s very easy to fall into the trap of trying to overachieve” “Who you want to be a year from now will take a year to get there” Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible

It isn't always convenient or comfortable so ask for help, but in the long run, the result is always better. So why don't you do it more often? Maybe it seems inconvenient. Maybe you are too shy. Maybe you don't want to "bother" someone. Whatever the story is you are telling yourself, stop. When you ask for help you show the person you are asking great respect; you demonstrate humility; and you increase your odds of success. Do you remember being at the pool, and watching the other kids jump off the high dive? Do you remember the courage it took to work yourself up to the point when you were ready to do it yourself? Do you remember the rush you got when you finally did it? Or did you do it at all? The high five is pretty terrifying when you’ve never done it, and like most things in life that we’re afraid of: it can be mastered and even enjoyed once we break through that initial fear induced paralysis! Fear has the ability to freeze us, and keep us from acting on the things we truly want to do, but it doesn’t have to. If you’re willing to face that fear, and walk through it, you have the potential to live the greatest and most fulfilling life available to you! In this episode of Level Up Your Life, Mark Black talks us through what fear is, and how to move beyond it into a place of courage, power and even enjoyment when doing the things you were once afraid of! Is fear actually False Evidence Appearing Real? Different types of fear. Exercise: Brainstorming and Identifying your fears. Feel the fear and do it anyway! How successful people overcome their fears. Getting over the fear of cold calling strangers and asking them for money. Are you willing to be uncomfortable? “Of all of the things that are universal in the human condition, fear is definitely one of the biggest” “What are you afraid of?” “It is completely normal to feel afraid sometimes” “We’re always going to have some level of fear” “Being afraid in and of itself is not the problem, it’s how you react” “We cannot allow our fears to master us. We cannot allow our fears to dictate what we will and will not do” “I learned to see the positive consequence of walking through the fear” Level Up! www.levelupimpact.com Use code PODCAST Share the show! www.markblack.ca/podcast More Mark: Your Best Year Yet transformation Program Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile Click HERE for one month FREE Audible
