Your Guide To Arguing Properly

Your Guide To Arguing Properly
Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 186 - Your Guide To Arguing Properly Dr. Gary Smalley had some great tips for couples when they argue. They are: 1. Don’t escalate the argument. This seems simple enough, but we all do it. So, next time you start to argue, step back, take a deep breath and count to 10. 2. Don’t withdraw from the argument. Disagreeing actually means you care. Oft en withdrawing from an argument doesn’t make the problem go away. 3. Don’t belittle your spouse. Name calling is a verbal hand grenade for your marriage. Words like, “you’re so stubborn,” or, “you’re such a brat,” can never solve an argument. 4. Don’t project on your spouse something they are not. If your husband isn’t ready to buy a new couch, don’t call him cheap. If your wife wants a new dress, don’t call her a diva. ------------ the Marriage Talk Podcast on our YouTube Channel for more information on the ministry and marriage events hosted by Jay and Laura Laffoon for more information on Bill Hobson and the Hobson Media Podcast Network Have a question, comment, suggestion for Marriage Talk? Is Your Wife A "Weaker Vessel" Or Fine China?
07/29/2024
Is Your Wife A "Weaker Vessel" Or Fine China?
Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 184 - Is Your Wife A "Weaker Vessel" or Fine China? 1 Peter 3:7 reads, “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker vessel and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” Th is is perhaps one of the most controversial passages of Scripture when it comes to marriage, because no woman wants to be considered as a “weaker vessel.” However, if we dig deeper into the meaning of the phrase “weaker vessel,” it is actually a term the ancients used for fine china. It was called weaker vessel because it was not as clunky as everyday dishes. So let’s read that again: “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as fine china....” Now there is a great example of how to treat our wives. And the result? Our prayers will not be hindered! Is The Perfect Marriage Pure Fiction?

Is The Perfect Marriage Pure Fiction?
Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 183 - Is The Perfect Marriage Pure Fiction? Is there such a thing as the perfect marriage? The spouse God gave us is all we will ever need in our marriage. Satan will try to get you to believe that there is someone “better” out there, but don’t be fooled, we’re all fallen creatures that have scars and pasts and baggage. When you grasp the idea that your spouse, given to you by God, is all you ever need, you start looking at that person in an entirely different light. Looking for the good and not the bad; the helpful not the hurtful, and your marriage grows strong. A New Year, A New Us - Marriage Talk Podcast
Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 162- A New Year, A New Us Embarking on a new year as a couple presents a wonderful opportunity for growth and connection. One impactful way to set the tone for the coming months is by choosing a "word for the year" together. This can be a single word that encapsulates a shared aspiration or focus for your relationship. Whether it's "balance," "communication," or "adventure," selecting a word provides a guiding principle that both partners can rally around. Regularly discussing and reflecting on this word throughout the year can foster a sense of unity and purpose, helping you navigate challenges and celebrate victories as a team. In addition to choosing a word for the year, starting off on a positive note involves spiritual and emotional bonding. Reading a devotional together can be a meaningful and intimate way to strengthen your spiritual connection as a couple. It provides an opportunity for shared reflection, prayer, and a deeper understanding of each other's beliefs. This shared practice can also bring a sense of peace and stability to your relationship, acting as an anchor during life's inevitable storms. Consider selecting a devotional that resonates with both of you, and set aside dedicated time each day or week to engage in this enriching and grounding activity together. To further invest in your relationship, consider attending a marriage retreat as part of your new year strategy. A marriage retreat offers a focused and intentional environment for couples to connect, communicate, and learn valuable skills. Whether it's a weekend getaway or a longer program, these retreats provide a chance to step away from the demands of daily life and prioritize your relationship. Engaging in workshops, discussions, and activities designed to strengthen marriages can rejuvenate your connection and equip you with practical tools for navigating the complexities of married life. Additionally, seeking the guidance of a marriage coach can be a transformative step. Signing up for marriage coaching allows you to work with a trained professional who can offer personalized insights, communication strategies, and guidance tailored to your unique relationship dynamics. This proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to ongoing growth and ensures that you and your partner have the support needed to navigate the journey of marriage successfully. ------------ the Marriage Talk Podcast on our YouTube Channel for more information on the ministry and marriage events hosted by Jay and Laura Laffoon for more information on Bill Hobson and the Hobson Media Podcast Network Have a question, comment, suggestion for Marriage Talk?
