TCNW 899: Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 0:43:12 Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee was the 58th episode filmed and aired of The Andy Griffith Show. (S2.E26) We’ll play Mayberry trivia all about “Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee.“ Plot Summary Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee: Aunt Bee’s friend Clara convinces her that she is preventing her widowed nephew Andy from remarrying. Feeling like a burden, Aunt Bee reluctantly begins seeing Mayberry’s dry cleaner, Mr. Fred Goss, who has shown romantic interest in her. She pursues the relationship mainly as a pretense to demonstrate her independence and “free” Andy to find a wife of his own. Mr. Goss is eager but awkward—he talks incessantly about his dry-cleaning business and has several off-putting habits. This leads to a series of comedic misunderstandings as Aunt Bee struggles to maintain the charade. Andy remains patient and supportive throughout. The episode resolves with gentle reassurance that Aunt Bee’s presence in the home is valued and that she does not need to sacrifice her own happiness for his. Back in September 2015 some of the Mayberry tribute artists traveled to Bellevue Baptist Church near Memphis, TN to perform a play written & directed by David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning called “Ernest T’s Rock Concert.” I featured the first portion of the play, this segment called 23rd Psalms, that was written by Joe Gritton about a year ago in of the podcast. I’ve resisted showing the entire play because the hope was always that we might be able to perform the play in other locations. After eleven years, I think that hope has been overcome by the reality that we’ll never be able to do it again. It’s a really great show written by David and I’m proud of what was done and I think it’s time to share it with the world. Part 1 was last episode and in part 2 Dennis talks more about Mayberry and discusses how his time as a child actor wrapped up. There are questions from the Mayberry cruisers who attended the interview as well. If you didn’t know, Mayberry lost a wonderful man on May 9, 2026. Dennis Rush, who played Opie’s friend Howie in eight episodes over a two and a half year period. Dennis began coming to Mayberry Days, and other Mayberry events in 2018 and had become much loved by fans. His joy and love for his time on The Andy Griffith Show and at discovering how much fans remembered his appearances on the show was heartwarming. Dennis has been featured here on the podcast in an one-on-one interview () and again along with fellow castmate Keith Thibodeaux, Johnny Paul, () but he has so many amazing stories of his career that I wanted to make sure you heard. TCNW 890: Motherhood in Mayberry Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 0:40:34 We just celebrated Mother’s Day here in the U.S. and it made me wonder if there were any references during The Andy Griffith Show about mothers or Mother’s Day. There are no dedicated Mother’s Day episodes during the run of The Andy Griffith Show. That aligns with its gentle, everyday small-town storytelling rather than holiday-specific plots. References to mothers are subtle, infrequent, and often tied to character dynamics, with Aunt Bee serving as the central maternal/surrogate figure for Andy and Opie. TCNW 877: Love and Laughter, A Valentine’s Day in Mayberry Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 0:31:14 Even in a town where the biggest crime might be a misplaced pickle jar, love found its way into Mayberry’s gentle rhythms. From puppy crushes to long-term romances, the show wove sweetness into its most memorable plots. One of the earliest and most charming arcs of affection comes from young Opie Taylor. In Season 5’s “Opie Loves Helen,” he awkwardly but adorably develops a crush on his schoolteacher, Miss Helen Crump — even going so far as buying her a gift with his hard-earned 74 cents! Opie’s loves continued into season 8, where in “Opie’s First Love” he musters the courage to ask classmate Mary Alice Carter to a party — a classic tween drama complete with dance plans and mixed signals. Aunt Bee Taylor’s love life also got its share of spotlight. From an old beau, Roger Hanover, returning to Mayberry to court her to trying out the idea of marriage with dry-cleaner Fred Goss, Aunt Bee was hit by Cupid’s arrow from time to time. This episode we’ll explore how Andy & Helen and Barney & Thelma Lou romances didn’t rush it, and as fans know, but ultimately end up together. Love in Mayberry wasn’t about drama or high stakes — it was about sincerity, community support, awkward moments, and personal growth. TCNW 872: Col. Tim's 2025 Clips Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 0:39:26 There are some amazing scheduled for 2026 that i think you’d really enjoy. I’ll point out some of them which can be found on the website’s “.” I certainly encourage you to try to attend one of the scheduled events. To give you an idea of what you might see when attending one of the larger events we’re going to watch (yes, I think you should watch the YouTube version of this episode) a compilation of video clips from Mount Airy, N.C.’s 2025 event. Specifically this is from the “Col. Tim’s Talent Time” show that wraps up the Mayberry Days week each year. These clips feature the Mayberry tribute artists recreating moments from the episode “The Songfesters” (S4.E20). It features James Dodson as Andy, Terry Varvel as Barney, Chris Bauman as Gomer, and Allan Newsome (me) as Floyd. The choir itself features all the other tribute characters as well as several “fans” who were attending Col. Tim’s. The events seen were done as what I call “in-betweens” with the final choir scene done as a featured act. And “in-between” is something done between the talent acts occurring during the show to keep the “Mayberry” feel of the event flowing among the singers, dancers and other acts of Col Tim’s Talent Time. TCNW 870: Mayberry Christmas to All 2025 Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 1:01:29 It’s Christmas time here in Mayberry and time for the annual Christmas episode. The Andy Griffith Show had only one episode centered around any holiday and that holiday was Christmas. Fans have watched that episode over and over seeing as Ben Weaver tries to get arrested so he can spend Christmas in jail with the Taylor’s, the Muggins’, and Miss Ellie. It always plucks on to our hearts when we see Ben singing outside that courthouse cell window. Since the podcast began, Two Chairs has tried to bring back the warm feeling from The Andy Griffith Show as we go through Mayberry related memories of Christmas time. We also try to make a new memory or two in the process. We have a special guest back again this year from over in Dodge City. His name is Festus Haggen and he has a really good story to tell about Santa. There’s a story called “The Fife Before Christmas” by my friend Rik Roberts who played “Barney” to my “Floyd” in the Mayberry Man movie and Mayberry Man series. We have a favorite of mine by Charlie Monk called “Andy and Opie Christmas” that brings back memories of a small town Christmas that sure reminds me of Mayberry. We hear from Elinor Donahue about recording “Away in a Manger” with Andy then we hear her sing just that. We have a great song with lyrics written by Russell Estes called “A Mayberry Christmas” that does a wonderful job of taking us back to our hometown. For a bit more Christmas music, we’ll play my 2022 Mayberry Christmas card featuring images from Mayberry Man the Series.
