Trump This!

Trump This!
(Originally recorded July 2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they delve into one of the big 3 trading card games from their childhood. Among other topics, they talk about a card-themed Rider show [1’15]; a collectible-compatible Ultra Series [12’]; and introduce yet another new segment for a card-themed anime series [1:04’10]. The video/special episode of our Yu-Gi-Oh duel is not ready YET, but when it is, check out the Patreon page for access! Link will be put here when that’s uploaded. Anybody else think that Matt is trying too hard to remove excess from Joel’s deck here? Ready to watch Matt realize a humongous mea culpa on air about one card he used in their supposed duel [so bad he was tempted to take the entire thing out]? Is there more to the “get out of the car” story? [Spoiler alert: inside joke that isn’t explained] How much dead air do you think was eliminated as they considered the answers to the so-called “lightning round” questions? Find out as you listen! Please check out Matt’s other podcast, about creative writing, called “The Writ Wit”, wherever you get your podcasts. Target the Arrow-verse

Target the Arrow-verse
(Originally recorded July 2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they attempt to stay on North American soil for their headliner subject (since per usual the rest leans away), they start diving into it 22’27. Among other topics, they lean into the skid with exclusive “commemorative toys” [3’02] (to avoid Ryusoulger spoilers and how it may or may not affect Dino Fury, skip when asked to 8’31); rank something out of magical girl anime (!) [ranking starts after some setup at 45’]; and introduce another self-made hashtag [57’40]. We don’t condone drinking games, for the record; but if you count how many times Matt says “Ryusoulger is interesting” or some variant, you might have a good one. For those wanting to avoid Kamen Rider OOO spoilers (mostly as a what-if on speculative information [said to not spoil those planning to watch: I mention the wrong character]), jump from 17’52 to 18’47-ish. The CW’s show “The Flash” will actually end after a short 9th season [sorry for misspeaking] airing spring 2023. More about the Sentai time slot: it was previously changed in the 90s [to time he mentioned] so Matt should stop with the “original” mess, PLUS it happened in October 2017, not 2016-”esque” like he claimed. Sorry, this time I’m not publishing the average suit rankings, just listen! Why are they spending so much time during ostensibly an Arrowverse segment speaking about Marvel? Will Matt ever learn to stop walking all over poor Joel’s points? Is this the elusive episode where audio quality is balanced for both GMs? Biological Chronicle-d
(Originally recorded Apr 2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they talk generally about Bionicle at a level that merely scratches the surface of their joint passion for that property [16’01]. Among other topics, they talk about Ultra Q [5’40]; read our very first fan letter on the air [11’34]; and introduce yet ANOTHER new segment [47’30]. The “Unbalance Zone” title is also used on another program of Tsuburaya make. Apologies for neglecting the very serious mention of WHY midnight premieres are no longer the same… How many times did you count Matt interrupting Joel? (Hint: it’s almost worth a counter at this point…) We apologize for the technical challenges that make Matt’s audio quality subpar for large portions of the episode. The “promotion” with vouchers regarding Battle for the Grid are regrettably over. Please check out Matt’s other podcast, about creative writing, called “The Writ Wit”, wherever you get your podcasts. Dragonwalker Space Sheriff

Dragonwalker Space Sheriff
(Originally recorded approximately April 2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they elaborate a bit on the red-headed step-child of Toei’s larger form transforming hero franchises [37”15] (“These numbers” refers to the mid-air X I made with my arms when talking about it, sorry for the lack of visuals). Among other topics, they talk about Kamen Rider Kabuto [2”16] (by the way, “future Matt” is leaving this spoiler skip in the description rather than recording something, jump ahead from 4”48.5 to 13”39); do a Product Review on the love letter to the Ultra Series called Mebius [51”44] (once AGAIN calling the defense team an “attack” team whoops) (apologies for the extreme loud part @ 1’01”35 and on, believe it or not it was toned down a bit); and some impressions of the quite-recent Sentai called Ryusoulger (which is still relevant because its adaptation Dino Fury continues releasing episodes now) (disclaimer: we have since finished the show) [14”46]. How many times will Matt say “to be fair” in defense of something? Despite the new disclaimer, how many times will the GMs stop short of saying real spoilers? What was the fascination (or simply kismet) by having shows that somehow honored anniversaries? [To wit, Kabuto was 35th for Rider, Gavan’s 30th was the movie we mention there, and Mebius the 40th of Ultra Series.] Is it fair to determine who “wins” a point when Good Cop and Bad Cop talk in different lanes on “the same point”? Primer on Spellcasting
(Originally recorded 1/17/2020, Take II on primer recorded 07/2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they talk about one of the oldest trading card games that’s still prominent today [37”, for those skipping the primer, leap ahead to 1’14”]. Among other topics, they talk about a certain divisive Red Ranger from the Power Rangers franchise [2”30]; celebrate 20 years of Batman Beyond [12”30]; and rank the Champion-level partner Digimon from Adventure 01 [17”15]. (mea culpa: Angemon is the last to get his Digivolution, but DID manage it once before Ultimate forms were introduced; fittingly though, he was the last to go Ultimate too) (mea culpa 2: the first major villain was Devimon, but there is another who assumes the role of primary villain later in the season, a fact Matt glossed over) [Unintended humor – releasing an episode referencing an obvious Jesus analogue on Easter weekend was not considered when choosing content for this episode.] To give a helpful link about MTG, check out magic.wizards.com which is a very helpful resource! Stay tuned for the actual rankings but as a sneak peek, here are the average ratings (lowest scores are ranked lower). Gatomon (1.5), Birdramon/Togemon (2), Greymon (4.5), Kabuterimon (5.5), Angemon (6), Ikkakumon (7), Garurumon (7.5)

Going Digital

Going Digital
(Take II recorded October 2021) Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they attempt branching out (while still staying close to their roots). Among other topics, they talk about Digimon Adventure 01 (around 20’ mark) and a major spoiler warning just about 37:48, which DOES affect the remaining plot summary... [mea culpa: Joe’s Japanese name is indeed Jyou, pronounced the same, but his CREST was called Honesty; ironically Mimi’s Crest was indeed the same between Japanese and English] [extra mea culpa: we tried ending several minutes before we did because the GMs needed to loop around and name the entire Digivolutionary line of Tai/Matt (Joel, I DID say Gabumon!)]; the GMs talk about their very first Employee of the Month; and they try to give you tons of reasons to watch the Sentai show Gokaiger (51:05). Ultra Primer
Join the “general managers” Matt and Joel as they put some more of their new segments to the test. Among other topics, they talk about the Ultra Series in general; a recent entry in that series called Z; and their initial Product Review about a very old Sentai show. The Product Review, by the way, will normally have one GM call a coin in the air, winners pick their side. (good cop or bad cop) This time was the first so we skip explaining that.
