Fred Price interview
Fred Price has been farming at Gothelney Farm since 2007, which is a 250 acre (owned) mixed farm with a further 130 acres on 6 year farm Business Tenancy (FBT). The farm today is chemical free (5 years at home, 3yrs on FBT land), largely because they have curated a wonderfully circular system where different aspects of the farm make sense when only considered together - those elements being Rosy's Field Bakery, Milly & Dan's butchery, Jess's 100% pastured beef, plus an element of Fred’s own work of pastured pigs, arable crops & plant breeding. The efficiencies and productivity they experience with this level of integration really rewarding to see. But this is only half of his story. Last month Philippa Hall interviewed him to tell us more about his participation in a wheat breeding project and how the Dean Organic Fund has enabled this project to develop to fund his testing equipment to support organic and agroecological farmers for years to come.
