From “Pen to Paper” and Stage to Screen, Vanessa Lynn is a writer, producer, dramatist, and visionary. Since the age of five this Detroit bred, daughter of a fine arts teacher was influenced by The Tony Award-Winning Musical, “Annie”. In this episode Vanessa shares practical insights about the theatre industry. Her matter-of fact, no nonsense style of teaching admonishes that you should invest in your craft, do your due diligence, believe in yourself, and have your script critiqued. Don’t ride the solo train, partner with other professionals in the industry. She stresses that knowing your craft is the basic foundation that every playwright must possess. Vanessa is the founder of Urban Playwrights United, which has over 1600 members from all across the country. UPU has been tagged as the nation’s #1 hub for Urban and Independent professionals. Vanessa is known for her book “Beyond the Chitlin' Circuit” which deals with the thrills and perils of staging your show.
