#223 Seasons, Seniors & Sacred Joy
This week’s episode is full of heart, humor, and hope as we talk about the changing seasons of life and parenting. From graduation emotions and advice for senior mamas, to small-town festivals (hello, West TN Strawberry Festival 🍓) and a stop at San Antonio Taco Company, we cover the fun and meaningful moments that make up everyday life. We also discuss why childlike play can be healing for our nervous systems, how our desire to control often comes from fear, and why trusting God with the next season brings peace. We share summer reading recommendations, spiritual lessons from transitions, and the reminder that joy is sacred because of Christ. No matter your circumstances, real joy is available through the Holy Spirit. Summer reading list: A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer The Correspondent by Virginia Evans Over Yonder by Sean Dietrich aka "Sean of the South" My Friends by Frederick Bachman May Memory Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." #222 Fifty & Fabulous!
This week’s episode is equal parts celebration and reflection. We’re recapping Angela’s “50 & Fabulous” birthday weekend in Franklin full of fun, laughter, and meaningful moments with the people she loves most. But beyond the celebration, this milestone sparked some honest questions we’re all invited to consider in any new season: What do I want to carry forward? What am I ready to leave behind? How do I want to show up for the people who matter most? We talk about releasing expectations, embracing presence, and learning to celebrate the “little things” that make up a meaningful life. Because sometimes the biggest shifts don’t come from major life changes, but from seeing our everyday lives with fresh eyes. Each episode is recorded on the campus of ! #221 Pickleball, Prom, and Pursuing What Actually Fills Us
In this episode, we’re talking about everything from Oura rings and energy drinks to funny church stories, bucket list dreams, and those “come along with me” friendships we all need. But underneath it all, we keep coming back to one question: What is actually filling us? Because no supplement, habit, or routine can replace the true source of peace, strength, and joy. “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” — 1 Thessalonians 2:8 If you’re trying to get healthier, live fuller, and stay grounded in what really matters, this one’s for you. 💛 Each episode is recorded on the campus of ! #220 Rambling About Fun, Faith & A Few Random Detours
What do glow-in-the-dark pickleball, space missions, and a scalp massage have in common? Honestly… we’re still not sure. 😄 This week’s episode is classic Rambling Through Everyday Life, from Fran’s nighttime pickleball tournament to our thoughts on Artemis II, a Tennessee Supreme Court session on Union’s campus, and a surprising new favorite card game (SkyJo, anyone?). We also talk about rising star Emily Ann Roberts (aka Yeehaw Mamaw 🤠), share a powerful quote from Dr. Caroline Leaf, and reflect on legacy, memory, and what really lasts, especially as Angela remembers her mom 28 years later. It’s funny. It’s meaningful. It’s a little all over the place… and somehow exactly where we need to be. #219 Easter, Real Life, and a Few Rabbit Trails...
Happy Easter Monday, friends! This episode is full of our favorite kind of conversation: real life, real faith, and a little bit of everything in between. We talk about our Easter traditions, what Holy Saturday teaches us about rest and waiting, and wrestle with a question that really matters: "what’s the big deal about Jesus?" We keep coming back to this: without the resurrection, there is no Christianity. It’s the reason for our hope and the foundation of everything we believe. You’ll also hear about Fran’s upcoming NYC ministry opportunity, our new memory verse (Jeremiah 17:7–8), and a few lighthearted, unexpected moments that make this episode feel like you’re just sitting at the table with us. #216 From Walmart Museums to Cows in Honduras: Stories, Service, and Speaking Life
This episode is a little bit of everything and the kind of rambling conversation we love most. We share stories from recent adventures, including a trip to the Walmart Museum in Bentonville, a mission trip to Honduras (yes, there’s a cow involved), and a few memorable characters along the way including Abraham the goat. We also talk about some meaningful ways people in our community are serving others, from caregiver support groups to a creative “Egg My Yard” fundraiser that’s bringing neighbors together. But in the middle of all the stories, we land on a deeper question: What is a lie you may be believing about yourself, and what does Scripture say is actually true? We talk about the power of encouraging others, calling out the good we see in people, and remembering that God has uniquely gifted each of us to serve. Our March memory verse reminds us: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10–11 So whether you’re listening for the laughs, the life updates, or the encouragement, we hope this episode reminds you of one simple truth: You were created on purpose, and your life is meant to bless others. #215 Estate Planning Made Simple: The Basics Everyone Should Know
Today we’re talking about estate planning, not from a place of fear but from a place of love and making things easier on our families one day. We discuss why planning ahead matters, how it reflects biblical stewardship, and the simple steps that bring clarity instead of confusion during life’s hardest moments. We answer lots of questions including: What documents do I need? What is a trust and how is that different from a will? What questions should I ask my aging parents? What does my adult child need and why? How do I get started? What is my next step towards estate planning? When should I update my estate plan? Estate planning isn’t about paperwork. It’s about peace, protection, and loving your family well. March Memory Verse on stewardship: 1 Peter 4:10–11 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. #212 Young Lives, Big Calling: Loving Young Mamas Well with Jen Wilson
February is Pro Life Month, and we’re honored to welcome Jen Wilson back to the show to talk about Young Lives ministry, why it matters, and how each of us can love young mamas well from right where we are. Jen shares the powerful story of how God planted the seed for this ministry in the middle of her own cancer journey, and how saying yes to this work has radically changed her life. Through Young Lives, teen moms are seen, known, supported, and reminded that they are deeply loved by God and by the people walking alongside them. This conversation is both encouraging and practical. Jen helps us think through what it looks like to step outside our comfort zones, listen for God’s call, and respond with obedience, even when it’s not easy. As she beautifully says, “It’s not easy, but it’s an incredible privilege.” There are so many ways to get involved with Young Lives through prayer, financial support, providing a meal, helping with childcare, mentoring a young mama, or supporting an upcoming local shopping event later this month. If you’ve ever wondered how God might be inviting you to love well in a tangible way, this episode is for you. #210 Everything Under the Southern Sun with Susannah B. Lewis
This week on the podcast, we’re joined by our dear friend and bestselling author for a heartfelt conversation about everything under the southern sun. Susannah shares vulnerable and powerful truth about the “people test,” the danger of speaking curses over our own lives, and how God can use even our worst talk to accomplish His purposes. We unpack how Satan pulls us into doubt and self-reliance, why apart from Christ we can do nothing, and how getting ahead of God often leads to a harder fall later. We also discuss where Susannah finds inspiration for her fictional book characters and the exciting projects she has coming up next. We close with our memory verse for the month, Isaiah 43:19, a reminder that God is always doing something new, even when we can’t see it yet. This is a conversation about humility, obedience, and learning to stay aligned with the One who invites us into His work, not because He needs us, but because He loves us. We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus in our everyday lives while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. We wrap up with our January memory verse, Isaiah 43:18–20, focusing on the powerful reminder to “forget the former things” and not dwell on the past. God is always doing a new thing even when we don’t see it yet, making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. This episode is a mix of fun, faith, leadership, and encouragement for stepping into what’s next with open hands and open hearts. Grief changes us, but it doesn’t get the final word. 🤍 In this week’s conversation, Fran shares reflections on love and loss following her dad’s passing, and how even in seasons of grief, God meets us with comfort, perspective, and quiet strength. We talk about the reminders loss brings, what truly matters, how precious our days are, and the hope we hold onto when things feel uncertain. We close with Isaiah 43:18–19, a beautiful promise that God is always doing something new, even when we can’t see it yet. In this week's conversation, we’re talking about the simple joys of everyday life and the beauty of true discipleship. When someone comes to know the Lord, what happens next? Who is coming alongside them as they begin to grow? And are we growing in God’s Word so we can pour into the people around us? We also chat about accountability: what it is, what it isn’t, and why real accountability isn’t about policing behavior but holding someone’s heart with care and honesty. Plus, we share our November memory verse: Philippians 4:8. We’d love to hear your thoughts on discipleship, accountability, and how you’re living out your faith in everyday life. #201 Fall Rambling
This week’s podcast might just be one of our favorites yet. We talked about cozy fall things like a cranberry orange simmer pot and deeper things, like our thoughts, our struggles, and the way God transforms us through them. Somewhere between laughter and reflection, we found ourselves saying, “We’ve lost our ability to consider other perspectives,” and it hit us hard. We also talked about how sin, as painful as it is, can be the very thing God uses to change us from the inside out. And then this question: “Are you thinking about what you’re thinking about?” Because we average 10,000 thoughts a day, and each one can either pull us closer to life and peace or further into chaos. Philippians 4:8–9 is our memory verse this month, and it’s such a grounding reminder: to center our minds on what’s true, noble, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy—and to actually live it out. When we do, the God of peace meets us right there. We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus in our everyday lives while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. Do you have a favorite episode? What guests would you like to hear from next? Some of our favorite quotes from this episode: “You just start somewhere and you figure it out. There were stories to be told and we had lots of things to say. We just showed up and started talking.” Fran “The consistent thing in every episode is we will always talk about the Lord and also the fun and ridiculous things in our lives. #199 We Can Do Hard Things!
This week’s episode is full of real life and real faith — from Wendy’s chili 🍲 and football chatter 🏈 to Fran’s NYC adventures 🗽 (hello, Oyster Bay!) and even a little zombie paintball 💥. But beyond the laughs and stories, we’re diving deep into what it means to do hard things — to step into new, uncomfortable, and stretching seasons — and how the Lord meets us right in the middle of it all. We are both learning that we’re not failing… it’s just new. We’re growing in dependence on the Lord, recognizing that self-sufficiency feels safe and comfortable, but true transformation happens when we rely on Him completely. You’ll also hear updates on Fran’s final paper, some honest reflections on emotions, and a conversation about increasing our prayer lives and Bible literacy within the context of community. 📖 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 ✨ Tune in for encouragement, laughter, and a reminder that the Lord is faithful to meet you wherever you are — even (and especially) in the hard things. We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus in our everyday lives while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. We are so thankful Jesus is right there with us in the middle of it all. Each episode is recorded on the campus of ! 198 Fall Break Fun!
This week's conversation is full of fall break fun including Angela's recent trip to Chicago and Fran's next adventure. Fran shares more great questions we can ask our children (and ourselves) as we consider who are becoming. We also contemplate the difference in ruminating vs. meditating as we consider our memory verse for October, 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and a sound mind." We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. We are so thankful Jesus is right there with us in the middle of it all. Favorite quotes and books referenced in this episode: "Leadership is easy to visualize and harder to actualize." Dr. Dub Oliver Leadership is a journey, it's never a destination. We should always be learning and growing and evolving. If you are experiencing a spirit of fear, that is not from the Lord. We have to know the difference between the two. God doesn't want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold, loving and sensible. Are you ruminating, meditating or marinating? #197 Susannah B. Lewis: Rooted and Rising!
This week, we are joined by our dear friend and best-selling author, Susannah B. Lewis. You will love Susannah's humor and authenticity as we discuss our faith and the challenge she placed before us at the Rooted and Rising Women's Event last month. We talk about the four types of soil and the condition of our hearts, and Susannah shares what prompted her to grow deeper in her relationship with the Lord. We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus in our everyday lives while also learning, being challenged, and growing together, while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. We are so thankful Jesus is right there with us in the middle of it all. Favorite quotes from this episode: In praying for wisdom, the Lord gave me the desire for His Word. We have to be rooted in God's Word, or there is no fruit. God wants to transform our hearts! Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." There is a difference between being saved and being surrendered. The fruit doesn't come from dipping the plant in the soil. It has to be rooted there. As I am growing spiritually, my thoughts have changed. My interests have changed. I am so on fire for the Lord that He has taken priority in my life, and my social media reflects that. I have come to know just how much I need the blood of Jesus, which in turn makes me bolder to speak that. We are called to be bold! That's what he wants from us! The older we get, the more hungry we become for the scriptures! We better understand what Jesus did for us, and we do not take that lightly! If we are struggling to fast from something, it has become an idol. We should be grieved by what grieves God. Our whole lives are a war between the flesh and the spirit. "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23 Just because someone is older, that doesn't mean they are wise. Look for the fruit. Don't take spiritual advice from someone who is not in God's Word. We can be aware of what is going on in the world without being consumed by it. We will drift if we aren't actively drawing closer to the Lord. Ecclesiastes 1:18 "The greater my wisdom, the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases sorrow." Our memory verse for October: 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." Follow Susannah on social media! #196 Fear is a Liar
This week, we share what we learned from our September memory verses in Colossians 1, and Fran shares our new memory verse for October, plus her takeaways from a powerful ministry event with Jaco Booyens on Union's campus last week. We talk about the power of confessing our sin and praying protection over one another, plus the prayer Jesus prayed over us in John 17. We hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives. We are so thankful Jesus is right there with us in the middle of it all. Did you memorize Colossians with us in September? What is the Lord teaching you through these verses? "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light." Colossians 1:9-12 "It's time for us to be done with shallow, surface level faith. There is so much to learn, and the Lord wants to be engaged with us through his Word." Fran We have a new scripture memory verse for October: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment." 2 Timothy 1:7 CSB Learn more about Listen to a sermon by Jaco Booyens John 17:11-19 "I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified." Our hearts are so tender after the last two weeks and yours probably is, too. We recently spoke at the "Rooted and Rising" event with our dear friend Susannah Lewis and loved being with those precious ladies (it was so fun seeing several of our listeners there!) As always, we hope that with each and every episode, you will find us talking about Jesus while also learning, being challenged, and growing together while loving and laughing about what makes up our everyday lives.
