She is the captain of Team S&W, And sponsored by big names in shooting like Trijicon, Federal Premium Ammunition, Safariland, The National Shooting Sports Foundation and Liberty Safes. Julie is a veteran of the United States Army where she was a member of the Army Marksmanship Unit. You can find Toys, Tools, Guns and Rules on Amazon along with Julie’s first book Shoot. Since our recording, Julie has been elected to the NRA Board of Directors where Julie is a wife and mother and you can see her commitment to her family in all that she does. You can find out more about Julie and keep track of everything she is up to by visiting her website as This show was recorded as part of our J-frame January series and unfortunately it has just sat in the can for a long time. As I have spooled up the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast again I decided that there was too much of Julie’s time and too many quality segments in this show to just let it sit. and so here it is. Julie and I start off the show with some silly banter During the core of the show we jump into these topics. Julie talks about the most fun she’s ever had with a revolver. Julie’s concealed carry journey and how it relates to J-frames. What Julie sees as the greatest misunderstanding that people have about revolvers in general. How should someone make the determination as to whether they should carry a revolver or a semi-automatic? What Julie sees as the greatest set of advantages that the J-Frame offers? What are the greatest disadvantages of the J-Frame? What Julie thinks the perfect J-Frame would look like. Revolver grip - What Julie’s grip looks like. If there was one tip that people could implement for improving their revolver shooting what would it be? Speed loaders, speed strips or loose rounds? What does your revolver reload look like? If Julie was in Montana and carrying a wheel gun, what would it be? Julie’s new book Patron Only Segment: Goal Setting - Julie’s Bianchi Cup Goals for 2018 and how to set realistic goals in the shooting sports and in life. 428 - What are you willing to die for?
I know the title is a bit dramatic, but it is a concept that I have had spinning around in my head as I have been listening to the latest episode of the Hardcore History Podcast dealing with the Celtic Holocaust. Between the times of 100 BC and around 50 BC the Celtic people found themselves engaged in a struggle for survival with the Roman empire and Julius Caesar. As individuals and as a whole it seems like they must have had to ask themselves the question, “What are we willing to die for?” It isn’t an easy question or one that very many of us have had to ask ourselves, yet at the same time I can see some striking parallels to the kinds of questions we should be asking ourselves when it comes to personal protection and self-defense. I don’t know if any of this will make any sense when you listen to it. Maybe it is just a bunch of illogical drivel. At the same time, the concepts struck me and as I hope to be a better student to both history and to personal protection, it makes sense to me to explore the connections when they seem to appear. So, I ask you, what are you willing to die for? Connect with me and let me know. and leave a rating and review. of the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast. We talked about the tendency of the gunternet to pounce on what they call derp and the negative effects that the negativity can have on the gun community. A perfect example is what happened when Mike Seeklander . The pouncing also happens when folks that are new to the gun community make "mistakes" that don't follow what social media gun "experts" think is the best course. 425 - Stepping Outside Your Personal Protection Comfort Zone
Stepping outside of your comfort zone is the ticket to growth in life, in business and in your own personal protection. If you are always doing what you are comfortable doing, you are unlikely to experience significant growth. I'm not suggesting that going someplace where you feel unsafe, or doing something that is going to lead to an unsafe situation. Instead, I am suggesting that you step outside of your typical comfort zone when you are preparing for your defense. Instead of practicing the things that come easily to you, try something that is difficult. Instead of just going to the range to practice, take a training course. If you spend all your time training guns, get some unarmed training or medical training. You get the idea. Step outside your comfort zone to make gains. If you are looking for a training course, take a look at the Beyond Concealed Carry Enhanced course that SSA will be hosting. It is a unique class in that Bob Mayne, Ben Branam and myself will all be instructing at the course. You will get the viewpoint of three different instructors in two days of outstanding training. 423 - Ohio CCW Law Changes - SB 199
On March 21st those of us that carry concealed handguns in the state of Ohio awoke to some important changes in the law. The following list of changes comes from the very comprehensive Buckeye Firearms Association website. I made some changes to the order of presentation, but the list is not my original list. The commentary you hear in the podcast are my original thoughts on the latest revision to the Ohio Revised Code regarding Concealed Carry. The 2017 MAG-40 is coming soon to Safety Solutions Academy There is more to concealed carry than knowing how to shoot and understanding when and where you can carry a gun. It is the knowledge you gain in a class like a MAG-40 that can significantly improve your ability to defend yourself from both a violent attack and from the legal battle that you could face as the result of a lawful use of force. This is why the MAG-40 is such a valuable course.

We started out talking about our current political situation and the Second Amendment challenges that we face and what we can do about them. Somehow we spent a chunk of time talking about ammunition evolution and performance, and the hope that with engineering advances .380 might become the standard. Both Rob and I have been testing the Safer Faster Defense Responder which is an ankle rig designed by Alessandro Padovani that is a great way to carry your medical essentials. The conversation about medical gear lead into the civilian response to violence and spree killings and how we can make sure that we respond in a manner that is beneficial to those involved and also keeps us safe from others that may be responding to the situation.
