SC EP:1281 A bipedal figure walking through the woods Nathaniel writes “I’ve been listening to your podcast for about five years now, and over that time I’ve had multiple encounters that I’ve never really known what to make of. Recently I listened to Episode 769 with the wildlife biologist, and the way he described some of his experiences was almost exactly what I’ve seen. I’m also currently in school to become a wildlife biologist myself, so hearing that episode finally convinced me to reach out and share a couple of my experiences. I have several others, but there are two that stand out above the rest. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to share the others another time. I’ve spent my entire life hunting and fishing, and I’m currently going into my junior year of college here in Kentucky. During deer season I’m usually in the woods four or five days a week after classes, hunting a large Wildlife Management Area (WMA) surrounding a nearby lake. I’m primarily a bowhunter, and at the time I never carried a firearm because, realistically, this is Kentucky we don’t have many large predators that would make me feel like I needed one. My first encounter happened in late November of 2024, around the end of Kentucky’s gun season. I got to the woods around 2:00 p.m., and it took me roughly an hour to hike into my spot. It was about a mile back through some extremely thick, nasty terrain, which is exactly why I hunt there it keeps me away from other hunters. After pushing through about 12 acres of dense cedar thicket, I reached the entrance to a deep holler. I climbed about 20 feet up into my climber stand and had only been sitting for around 10 minutes when I realized everything had gone completely silent. There were no birds, no squirrels, no movement nothing. The woods just seemed dead. A few moments later I heard two distinct wood knocks off to my front left. I thought it was strange, but I brushed it off. Then, two or three minutes later, I noticed what looked like a bipedal figure walking through the woods roughly 100 yards away. My first thought was that it was another hunter or maybe a hiker, since I was on public land. I looked away for just a second to scan the rest of the woods, and when I looked back, the figure was gone. In its place was what I can only describe as an enormous, jet-black wolf or something that looked like one. I’ve seen plenty of coyotes over the years, and through school and visits to zoos I’ve seen wolves as well. This wasn’t either of those. It was significantly larger than any coyote I’ve ever seen, and something about its proportions just looked wrong. The shape of its head, the size of it, and the way it carried itself immediately stood out to me. It was only about 50 yards away, so I could see it clearly. The eyes were unusually large and locked directly onto me the entire time. It never looked away. It was crouched low, almost like a canine stalking prey, and it slowly moved from my left to my right, heading toward the cedar thicket. The entire time it stayed on all fours. Then it walked into the cedars…and simply disappeared. I don’t mean it ran off or I lost sight of it because of distance. It was just gone. At that point I decided I was done for the day. I called my parents to let them know I was heading out, climbed down as quickly as I could, and started making my way back toward the truck. As I climbed about halfway up the ridge, I stopped for a moment to look around and get a better view of my surroundings. That’s when I heard something I’ll never forget. The best way I can describe it is a cross between a woman’s scream and a howl, but much deeper than either. It was unlike anything I’ve ever heard before, and I’ve spent my entire life outdoors. The sound immediately put me into full panic mode. I took off running and didn’t stop until I got back to my truck. A hike that had taken me about an hour going in took me roughly 30 minutes coming out. I didn’t return to the woods for the rest of that deer season. I’ve had several other experiences since then, with one in particular being much more significant. It involved being followed while leaving the woods and seeing what many people describe as “orbs” in that same area. I know this is a lot to read, and I realize it sounds unbelievable. These aren’t exactly Sasquatch encounters, but after hearing Episode 769 I felt like I should finally reach out. He has created a new video with animations that are three dimensional and shown never seen before details of what it looked like when he experienced the space/time warp and Electronic Fog. SC EP:729 Leave Or I Will Kill You [Reloaded] I had an issue with several interviews last week where the audio is terrible and I am not sure why. While I work on it, I am loading one of my favorite episodes 729. A listener writes “My brother in-law and I have hunted all over Oklahoma. Grady County, in Central Oklahoma, Near Clayton in the South East, but in this one piece of property in Nowata, smack in the middle between the Verdigris River and Ooligha Lake, we had a very Terrifying encounter, …….with something. I’m 53 years old and hunted, with my dad, in Nowata, before I was old enough to drive. Not many people know how wooded this area is. My father and I hunted only 8 miles away from this property, I’m going to tell you about, and there are caves in the area. My dad and I use to hunt from the mouth of one on rainy days. I think, I could hide from populated areas, easily myself, so I’m pretty sure an elusive animal could too. It all started on our father in-law’s land. It was about 40 acres, but we had permission to hunt another 40 on the back side of it. I always felt uneasy on this property. Like I was being watched, but I just rationalized it away. I would hear someone else walking the property, in the dark, keeping pace with me, as I walked to my hunting spot. I would swallow my fear and tell myself it’s just another armadillo or racoon, and keep going. Once I borrow a knife from my dad, just in case I got a deer. The last thing he said to me was, ” I don’t care if you leave everything ease, just bring my knife back” . This knife was hand made, razor sharp, and entirely metal. I knew he meant it, so I was not going to leave it. That hunt I struck out, but my brother in-law, got a small buck. I was in my early 30s then, but he was in his 20s and had never gutted a deer before, so I was going to gut it for him. I slit open the abdomen and began pulling out the insides, in a bloody mess. He laughed at how bloody I was getting, calling me doctor Dave. I was trying to show him but he just laughed and teased me all the more. Frustrated I cleaned the knife on my camo and stuck it in the dirt. It was later in the day, so we gathered our haul and started back to camp. We walked, maybe 1/8th of a mile when, you guessed it. I forgot that knife. We were already sweating despite the cold, so my brother in-law wasn’t happy about turning around. After less than 10 minutes, we got back to the spot, I picked up the knife, and wiped the dirt off on my pants. I looked up and said, let’s go, but my friend didn’t move. He turned and said slowly, ” you don’t see anything wrong here.” The entire gut pile was gone. Even the blood. There was just one leaf with one drop of blood. No drag marks, no sign anything had been there, except for one large area of disturbed grass where the carcass had been, one small spot of crushed grass and of course my knife. Now I think there was a track there, but I didn’t see it as that. This was Oklahoma and Bigfoot was not in my vocabulary. We walked back to camp in silence with guns loaded. What ever took that 30 pounds of slimy deer guts, had to be watching us while we opened the deer, was big enough to carry it off, and was probably still close. We had other things happen over the years, but one night stands frozen in my memory. In a later season, we were late getting to the property. We left too late to get there in the daylight. I was perturbed to have to set up the tent in the dark. It was darker than dark that night. It was nearly 2200, when we got it up. I was ready to start a fire, my brother in-law, and friend, Zack, said OK, let’s go set up my tree stand. I replied, are you kidding, it’s dark, I’m tired, and we haven’t been here for an entire year. It was no use objecting, he was going on his own if I didn’t go with him, so away we went. Trampling through the woods. The flash lights we had weren’t great either. As we navigated off the ridge down into the bottom, of the hollow, I remember hearing something behind and to the right keeping pace with us in the woods. Fear hit me like it had never before. I tried to push it down, telling myself, it was nothing, but I struggled to stay upright on the dimly lit trail, carrying my pack. Finally, he found the tree he remembered from last year. I pulled screw in foot pegs out, and successfully got the stand in place 12 or 15 foot up. It took a long time and it was unusually warm. I set it up, so Zack wanted to make sure he liked it, so climbed up as I shined my, dim, flashlight on the pegs. While, he was climbing into the tree, that uneasy, fear, hit me again. I was hearing something moving behind me, and was having a hard time keeping that light shining on the tree. I would swing the light around and immediately heard my brother in-law yell, hey, give me some light, and WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I can’t see. He finally get up there and bounces on the platform. Shining a flip phone around saying, “yeah, this’ll work.” I didn’t care, I had my back to the tree, trying to see what was spooking me so bad. I was normally like that. I use to walk by moonlight to my hunting spot, but I could hear something moving around us in the dark. We were loud and it didn’t seem to care. Finally, FINALLY, he got down and we made our way to camp. I started a fire and was feeling pretty comfortable on my sleeping bag. The fire comforted me as I cooled off, when Zack said, we gotta go back. I left my phone in the tree. I said , ” it’ll be there in the morning!!!!” He said, I’m going back. But I had enough. I was not leaving the fire. I told him your going on your own if you do. He took his rifle, and a flashlight and disappeared into the dark. I was just dosing off, when BOOM, and another BOOM. HE WAS SHOOTING. I bounced up pulling on my pants. As I fumbled with my boots Zack came running full sprint and stopped standing over me. I was mad at him. I didn’t give him a chance to explain saying, you can’t shoot at night! It’s not legal to shoot a deer after dark, and everything is scared away now for half a mile. I feel bad now, he was pale, and just kept saying, ” I saw something. I heard something.” IT WAS NEARLY 10 YEARS LATER HE TOLD ME WHAT Happened. He said, something on 2 legs followed me in the woods. I paced me just out of sight. I yelled, thinking it was you messing with me. DAVID, cut it out. When he got to the tree. He yelled again, DAVID CUT IT OUT. then something mocked him out of the darkness. DAAVVIDD. He said something inside him told him to get up that tree. He shimmied up the tree like a squirrel. He cocked his gun and said DAVID, if that’s you, you better cut it out. I’m going to shoot. Then he sees a huge black shape, and it mocked his frightened words, saying, DAAVIDD, HEA HEA HEA. Almost laughing. He thought it was a demon. So he shot, it ran, and he shot again. Seei g his chance, he scurried down and ran back to camp. There was no way we were going to sleep so I roasted hotdogs on the fire. And we had visitors. I heard coyotes yelp earlier, so I rationalized that’s what it was. We where being harassed and circled by something on all fours. There was no eye shine, and they took care to not be caught in a flashlight. For nearly 2 hours they ran back and forth around us. The truck was close, but the gate was locked, and neither of us where going to fiddle with a lock, in the dark. We had guns but they were bolt action with a scope. These things were fast. We yelled but unless they came into the light, forget it. We threw out a weiner with antifreeze, in desporation. I heard something get up, run on 2 legs now and race to the weiner. In shock, we listened as this thing, started coughing and hacking. I thought to myself, that sound like a person. Then Zack said, what I thought. That sounds like a man. That sounds like a man. I said it can’t be. Running in the woods with no light. He said, we just killed someone. I said, as the coughing continued, anyone who runs around hunter, at night, and picks up a hot dog, off the forest floor deserves to die. He laughed. Then I laughed. We bother laughed nervously, as this thing walked away coughing. We could hear it 100 yards away coughing. It was morning before we fell asleep. We didn’t hunt that day. SC EP:1276 The Man At The Window Cheryl writes "Hi Wes, My husband is a fan and came to me one day saying “Babe, listen to this. It sounds just like what you saw.” I’ve found myself telling this story more often in recent years. Our anniversary is coming up so I figured why not share the story with you as a gift to him. Around 2004-2005 I went to visit my mom. She lives in a village surrounded by bayou and farmland. Though its not far from I-10 its the kind of place you only know about because of a detour from the interstate, fishing, or family is there. I was with my college roommate and we were going back to campus before it got too late but it was already dark. I took the side of the bayou I never take. Its too curvy and there have been a lot of deaths from people running into live oaks. I looked to the side and noticed what looked like someone peeping through the window of one of the houses. Small town nosiness kicks in so I slow down to a crawl. I ask my roommate to take a look. We quickly realize this was no man. It was tall, almost as tall as the window. The build was lean but by no means skinny. More like Lebron type body with broad shoulders, muscular, long arms. It had fur and ears atop its head. It turned to look at us and I hit the gas. I was driving a 1996 Ford Contour so I got nowhere fast. I could see large eyes and a snout protruding. Not flat like a cat’s face. Definitely K-9. It started running toward us, at first on two legs, then down to 4. We’re in the car screaming as you might picture two college girls doing and my roommate yells, “what the hell is that”? We got to I-10 and never looked back. I’m happy to share a few details about myself and something you might find interesting about the environment if you’d like to talk more or choose to have me on the show.” Tanner writes "I've had several unusual experiences along the same stretch of road in southern Wisconsin, including encounters with what I believe were Bigfoot-type creatures and a strange white orb. I'm from the Beloit/Janesville area in south-central Wisconsin, along the Rock River. The first experience happened on my very first night driving by myself. I was heading home from Janesville on Afton Road, just before entering the small town before the final 55 mph stretch into Beloit. It was nighttime, and I noticed what looked like a motorcycle headlight in the distance. I didn't think much of it. As I entered the town, I saw a sheriff's deputy parked near the bar at the bottom of the hill. I had been speeding, so I hit the brakes hard and managed to slow down in time. As I continued driving, the light I'd noticed earlier came flying up behind me. At first, I thought it was the deputy pulling me over. I went over the hill where the road opens into farmland and returns to 55 mph. After driving a short distance, the light appeared behind me again, closing the gap incredibly fast until it was right on my bumper. Then, without warning, it shot into my TrailBlazer. The inside of the vehicle filled with an intense white light that completely blinded me for a moment. Then, just as suddenly as it appeared, it vanished. The second experience happened farther north on Afton Road along the Rock River. I was fishing when I heard a series of tree knocks coming from across the river. I heard the pattern multiple times about five or six separate occasions with each sequence consisting of three distinct knocks on a tree. It immediately caught my attention because of how deliberate and consistent it sounded. The final experience was what I consider my Bigfoot sighting. I was near a section of the Ice Age Trail where three paths meet. The left path leads to a bridge that was destroyed by a tornado, the middle path continues along the trail, and the right path is a concrete walkway leading toward a park. I had been fishing from the old bridge when I noticed what looked like a good fishing hole upstream. I walked about 30 to 40 feet down the middle trail, then stepped left onto a small riverbank and fished there for three or four minutes. Suddenly, I heard a noise. I looked back toward the opening where the three paths meet and saw a large, black figure in a crouched position. In one incredibly fluid motion, it stood up and immediately launched into the woods between my position and the concrete path. I then heard it crashing through the forest for what felt like hundreds of yards. The sighting lasted only a split second, so I couldn't make out facial features or much detail. What stood out most was its size. From my perspective, it appeared to be somewhere between 6 and 7½ feet tall. I was standing lower on the riverbank while it was on higher ground. It was extremely dark almost jet black and its head didn't appear pointed from the angle I saw it. The thing I remember most was how incredibly broad it was. For the instant it stood upright before turning and running, it looked close to four feet wide across the shoulders. People have suggested it could have been a black bear, but while we've had one or two black bears in the area over the years, they hadn't been seen for quite some time, and those sightings were south of Janesville. What I saw did not resemble my expectations of a bear from the angle and movement I witnessed. I've believed in the possibility of Bigfoot for years, based on experiences where I thought I heard unusual calls, found what I believed were footprints, and came across strange structures in the woods. I've also been interested in the many stories shared by Native American communities. One thing I've always found compelling is that many tribes despite having different cultures and histories, and sometimes being in conflict with one another have remarkably similar stories describing the same type of being. SC EP:1274 Sasquatch-Nations John writes “We owned a home in New Jersey, about three miles northeast of Chestnut, roughly a half hour from Hacklebarney State Park. The house sat on the west side of the Black River Wildlife Management Area and had only been built about three and a half years earlier. I had just returned after enlisting in the United States Navy. Someone dropped me off at the house around 4:30 that afternoon. We had two dogs a Golden Retriever and a little black dog. I let them outside, and the little black dog wandered off into the woods. It was a beautiful day around 75 degrees with a light breeze. I decided I’d take a walk through the woods myself. I headed southeast from the house and walked about 700 or 800 yards before stopping and turning back toward the house. That’s when I heard the most god awful sound off to my right. It was incredibly loud, and at the time I had no idea what I was hearing. Later, after hearing other people describe it, I realized it sounded like what many call the ‘samurai chatter.’ I looked up and saw a berry bush about four feet tall, roughly 40 to 45 yards away. Standing on the other side of it was a massive figure. He looked to be about 6’8″ or 6’10”, covered in reddish hair from head to toe. His build reminded me of a fit basketball player wearing shoulder pads, broad and muscular, and imposing. He was facing me, and we just stood there staring at each other. After a few seconds, I couldn’t take it anymore, I turned and ran all the way back to the house. This wasn’t my only time seeing one.” We will wrap up with the guys from Sasquatch-Nations. SC EP:1267 The massive chainsaw fart Part 1 Jeremiah writes “I’ve had two experiences that both I and my friends believe may have been Sasquatch/Bigfoot encounters. First Encounter – July 2025 My first encounter involved myself (originally from Missouri, now living in Arkansas), my friend Nacho (Jacob, from Mississippi), and our other friend Torin (from Missouri). It took place near Neosho, Missouri. Nacho and I have been interested in Bigfoot and other cryptids since we were kids. One night, after spending most of the day playing video games at Torin’s house, we jokingly decided around 10:30 PM to go “squatch hunting.” Torin wasn’t interested in going because he had a bad migraine, but we eventually convinced him to come with us. We headed to Fort Crowder Conservation Area, a large wooded area near Neosho. Once there, we experienced several strange events. We had rocks thrown in our direction, heard what sounded like ground pounds, and could hear something moving behind us on the trail as well as around us in the woods. At one point, the same thing produced a deep, low rumbling growl that almost sounded like a stomach growling. The most unsettling moment came when trees were knocked down in front of us, effectively blocking our path and preventing us from going any farther. As we retreated, more rocks were thrown at us. Throughout the entire experience, the woods were unnaturally quiet there were no insects, no wildlife sounds, nothing. The following night, Nacho and I returned to the area, this time approaching from the opposite side. Since it was only the two of us and we were honestly pretty nervous after the previous night’s events, we decided to stay close to the car. After arriving, we stepped out briefly and Nacho made a few calls. Not long afterward, something very close by responded by smacking a tree on his side of the vehicle. A little later, I repeatedly heard something moving around on my side of the car. We were recording the entire time, and later, when reviewing the footage, we noticed things we hadn’t picked up on in the moment. My recording captured the tree knock very clearly, while Nacho’s recording contained a distant whoop that neither of us had noticed while we were there. Second Encounter – November 2025 In November 2025, Nacho, our friend Caleb (from New York), and I decided to spend two days and one night investigating the Honobia area of Oklahoma. We had been listening to Episode 11 and realized how close Nacho and I were to the location of the Honobia Siege, which motivated us to make the trip. Caleb and I met Nacho at the main store in town, where we got a campsite and spoke with some locals. We spent most of the day driving around the area, exploring and looking for signs of activity, but we didn’t encounter anything unusual. That evening, we returned to camp, settled in, cooked some great food, and climbed into the tent. Like most guys in their twenties, we ended up reading Bigfoot stories on Reddit and talking late into the night. About thirty minutes later, we heard something approach our tent on what sounded like two feet. When we stopped talking and listened, the footsteps immediately stopped. A few moments later, we heard two rocks clack together somewhere in the nearby river. We started talking again, and shortly afterward the footsteps resumed. Once again, we went quiet, and once again the movement stopped. This time we heard two distinct rock clacks one from the river close to our campsite, and another from much farther away, roughly a quarter mile downstream. There was a lot more that happened during both encounters than what I’ve described here. SC EP: Reloaded 998 Get In The F****** Truck Health Update: Still fighting this stomach bug. Starting to feel better. I will return next week. I wanted to play a reloaded episode of one of my favorite intros. Ben writes “Well I finally got up the nerves to send this, back in 2015 I was a Jr in high school. My buddy had called me to see if I wanted to hangout and see his new toy. The toy was a Jeep Wrangler YJ that was abandoned. Even more interesting it was abandoned by a gentlemen that later that same year went to his friends house and shot him. He had some issues I guess. So whilst we went out there we swapped from my brothers truck to mine and proceeded to meet them in the woods. So this is Sweden Maine where he found this. Kinda middle of nowhere. So we get to the Jeep and my friend and my brothers friend go out in the Jeep, leaving my brother and I with my pickup in this clearing. We noticed it was very quiet where we were. Right about then is when a gum ball sized rock landed between us. We looked at each other and played it off. Both kinda bothered we agreed to go towards the entry of the trail to get out of there. (Guess it felt safer) well when we got a little further down the trailer my brother pulled over. (He always drove) it was getting dark probably like 6:30-7pm in May. When I jumped out I looked at this tree too admiring the sky. I saw an entire flock of birds fly out of this tree. I proceeded to slowly drop my head looking down the tree the whole time. When I got to the middle of the tree is when I saw something. I saw a figure in the woods. Left arm and leg obscured by the tree looked as if it’s left palm was against the tree. It was rocking slightly, it had a long arm that I could see on its right side and a big build. I couldn’t see the feet but the head, shoulder, torso, and leg all on the left was clearly visible (as a silhouette). It was rocking slightly left to right and could see it breather. I looked at my brother and he was frozen looking at it. I asked him “what is that?” He only responded with “get in the truck” I looked back and it was still standing there swaying. I looked back at my brother and said again “what the f— is that?” To which my brother responded with “get in the f—— truck.” My door was still open so I kinda dove backwards into it. My brother quickly had it started and the clutch already out and fishtailing away. I couldn’t bring myself to look backwards. But we were spooked. There was an interesting situation with a set of lights behind us upon our escape but I’m not sure what to make of it. We called the friends that we were leaving so they either had to ditch the Jeep or drive it back to his house. Oddly they too sounded distressed. But they agreed to meet on the trail. We flew back down the trail driving way faster than anyone should. We came up to them and they stuffed the Jeep in the woods. What caught my attention next was they ran and I mean RAN to my truck, keeping a hand on my hood the whole time. I slid up against my brother so to make room for them. It was a regular cab. We drove out of there and my brother and I not wanting to get played asked them why they were so worked up. They stated to us the they had gotten stuck for a moment and whilst working it out of the mud something slapped the side of the Jeep and rocked it side to side. It was too dark for them to see anything under the heavy tree canopy and the night setting in more. It certainly was a wild time. Only other thing was some vocalizations the year prior that sounded exactly like the other howl captured in Maine. SC EP:1263 The Ugliest Thing I Have Ever Seen Weston writes "I live in the northern part of South Carolina, and for the first five or six years my wife and I were together, we went hiking or camping almost every weekend. We loved exploring waterfalls and trails across the surrounding states. A lot of the time we chose remote areas where we wouldn’t run into many people. The day this happened was different. We were visiting Crabtree Falls in North Carolina, a very popular waterfall along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s still remote in the sense that it’s deep in the mountains, but it’s a well-known destination, especially in the summer which is when we were there. This was in late July of 2016, well before Hurricane Helene, so all parts of the trail were open. The hike to the falls is about 2.5 to 3 miles round trip. About halfway in, there’s a spot where water runs down the mountain and crosses the trail. It spreads across a wide rocky area, with large boulders lining both sides as far up as we could see. Curious, we decided to step off the main trail and climb alongside the water to see where it led. We thought maybe there was another waterfall upstream or at least we’d discover where this sizable creek originated. We climbed straight up those rocks for about half a mile. Eventually, we started hearing what sounded like a fairly large waterfall. We figured we were close and also that we probably weren’t supposed to be there. There were signs everywhere warning hikers not to leave the trail, and by then we were well off it. I was climbing ahead in case my wife needed help navigating the rocks. When we reached the top of a large boulder near the sound of the falls, I pulled myself up and immediately froze. At the base of a waterfall roughly 25 or 30 feet tall, something enormous was crouched near the bottom, about five feet above the creek it fed into. At first, I couldn’t process what I was looking at. I just knew it was huge. My wife hadn’t crested the rocks yet, but she could tell something was wrong. I could hear her asking what was happening, but I couldn’t respond. I couldn’t move. I was staring at the back of this thing, crouched low. I knew it wasn’t a bear, and that realization locked me in place. It didn’t seem to know we were there. The roar of the waterfall likely masked our approach. And since everyone else was a mile below at the main waterfall, it probably didn’t expect anyone to come up that way. Then my wife climbed up beside me. The moment she saw it, she screamed. The creature turned toward us and rose to its full height in one fluid motion. It made a deep, guttural grunting sound. That’s when I understood what I was seeing and my fear went from paralyzing to overwhelming. I had never been that terrified in my life. As it stood there, I became aware of a strange pressure in my ears, like being underwater at the bottom of a deep pool. I could barely hear my wife screaming beside me. I’m not sure whether the pressure began when it saw us or when it stood and made that sound, but it persisted the entire time it was in view. The creature was over seven feet tall I’m certain of that. In high school, I had a close friend who was 6’10”, and I saw him every day for two years. I know what seven feet looks like. This thing was taller than him, and it was only about 40 or 50 feet away. Its hair appeared auburn at the tips, possibly darker closer to the skin. Its skin itself looked charcoal-colored. I didn’t get a good look at its hands, but I clearly saw its face and it’s something I wish I could forget. Its head tilted slightly to the left as it made that grunting noise. When it moved, it did something no human could have done. In a single step, it crossed the creek and dropped from its crouched position about five feet down to creek level without jumping, slipping, or stumbling. The rocks were large and slick, but it moved effortlessly. Then, within just a few more strides, it went up the mountain and disappeared. As it moved, I noticed its proportions more clearly. Its knees stayed bent as it walked, and its legs seemed short relative to its torso. Its arms looked long in comparison, especially the forearms, which appeared longer than what I’d consider normal for a human. The proportions were wrong, almost exaggerated. It was over quickly, but it felt much longer. Once it was completely out of sight, the pressure in my ears finally faded. We didn’t camp there that night like we’d planned. I didn’t spend much time running around with friends. My passion was hunting, tracking, and being outdoors. After reading The Tracker by Tom Brown Jr., I was completely hooked on wilderness skills and wildlife. When I was around 13 years old, I often went down to the creek at night with a lantern and fished for catfish. I loved the solitude. It was peaceful, and every now and then I’d hook into a freshwater drum or a snapping turtle that would really test my gear. One night, I had been fishing for three or four hours. About 100 yards to my southwest was a road cut into the side of a mountain. To stabilize the hillside, large riprap rocks had been placed beneath the road. I’ve always had excellent hearing, and even at 13 I could identify just about every animal in those woods by sound alone. That night, something strange happened. As I sat there in the darkness with my lantern turned low, I heard something running barefoot along the road. Then I heard it grab the guardrail and vault over it. A moment later, rocks shifted and slid as it landed in the riprap below. Then the woods went silent. I could hear faint footsteps moving through the forest. Because I was down by the creek and the bank rose about ten feet above me, my lantern light probably wasn’t visible from where the sounds were coming from. I kept fishing, convincing myself it was probably a deer crossing the road and that my imagination was filling in the blanks. Then things escalated. At first, small rocks started landing in the creek. Then larger ones some sounded as big as basketballs when they hit the water. I tried to ignore it and kept fishing, thinking maybe fish were jumping or something natural was causing the disturbance. About twenty minutes later, I caught a catfish. I turned up my lantern while I unhooked it, and that’s when I noticed a pair of glowing eyes on the opposite bank. They were fixed directly on me. After I released the fish, the eyes remained motionless. Then, in one smooth movement, whatever it was turned its head and disappeared. For the next fifteen minutes, I heard vocalizations. They didn’t sound aggressive. If anything, they seemed communicative almost as if the animal was trying to locate others or perhaps encourage me to leave the area. The closest comparison I can make is the sound of a barn owl. Oddly enough, I never felt threatened. Before leaving, I caught a decent-sized bluegill and placed it on the bank as an offering, just in case we ever crossed paths again. My second encounter occurred when I was 16. I’ve been bowhunting my entire life. I’m 47 now, and I still love it just as much as I did back then. This encounter took place in southeastern Kentucky in the vast wilderness of the Big South Fork region. The area is home to black bears, elk nowadays, and plenty of whitetail deer the reason I was there. I had hiked in along a muddy access trail maintained by Fish and Wildlife. The trail led to a place known as “The Helipad.” I’ve always assumed the open field at the end of the road was used for helicopter rescues from the nearby ravines. Around the five-mile mark, the road split. My dad headed toward the fields near the helipad while I took the left fork to hunt deeper in the woods. It was early October. Some leaves had already fallen, giving excellent visibility from a tree stand. Once I climbed, I could see nearly 200 yards through the timber toward the fields below. I settled into a tree around 2:30 that afternoon. It was a popular climbing tree straight, sturdy, and easy to ascend quietly. At approximately 3:30, I noticed movement far down the ridge. At first, I couldn’t make out what I was seeing. As it moved closer, I realized it was traveling in a way I’d only ever seen bobcats move. It would leap from the base of one tree to the next, minimizing noise with every step. I’d watched bobcats do this before while stalking. The difference was that this animal was upright. It stood roughly five to six feet tall and moved effortlessly. Its arms were unusually long, and whenever possible it traveled along fallen logs instead of the forest floor. Through my binoculars, I could see that it was black with reddish tips on the ends of its hair. It appeared young. Its coat looked clean, healthy, and almost glossy in the sunlight. There was a gracefulness to it a combination of strength and agility that’s hard to describe. It would leap what looked like eight to ten feet at a time, landing at the base of a tree and grabbing the trunk with one hand. Despite its size, it made almost no sound. I watched it approach until it was about 75 yards away. Then it noticed me. To this day, I don’t know how. Maybe it saw me. Maybe it sensed me. It immediately jumped behind a tree and began peeking around the far side, studying me as much as I was studying it. For what felt like an hour but was probably only fifteen minutes we observed one another. Finally, it turned and quietly retreated the way it had come, moving through the woods with the same incredible stealth. The moment it disappeared from sight, I climbed down and left the area as quickly as possible. My reasoning was simple: if there were juveniles in the area, there were probably adults as well. I hold a degree in biology with a specialization in fish and wildlife habitat, and I have spent a lifetime in the outdoors. Whatever I witnessed that day remains one of the most unusual experiences of my life. Emmy decided she wanted to tell you what she experienced outside of telling me her dad. Emmy is 13 yrs old now and when she had her experience she was 7 maybe 8 years old with my memory. When she was little, maybe 5, I taught her how to build a fire in the fire pit(stones stacked in a circle) next to our house close to the wood line next to the hay fields. The night she had her experience she started a fire with me and we were hanging out. She had built a fort with blankets and with some camp chairs and we were watching the fire. I told her I had to run inside and use the bathroom and get a snack/drink keep an eye on the fire, I’ll be right back. After going inside and using the bathroom, grabbing a bag of potato chips and drink, I was at the back porch door and Emmy was there trying to open the door and crying upset. I opened the door and she was crying very scared and I asked what happened. She told me there was something very large and tall and dark in the wood line watching her next to big pine tree while she was watching the fire. She told me she looked multiple times thinking it was her imagination but she thought it would go away but it didn’t and then she realized it was real and she got really scared, when she got the back steps maybe 100ft from the fire the tears and uncontrollable crying hit her. That’s when I met her at the back door almost immediately as I was headed back outside. I asked her to show me where she saw the figure and the leaves on the ground next to the big pine where flat. Not like the other leaves like something had laid down on them or stood on them if it was really big. Not the same as the other leaves in the woods around that particular point. No footprints, just flat leaves. I looked up and there was a broken pine branch about 8ft. I’m 6’3” and my arm outstretched above my head couldn’t touch the broken limb. Anyway, we went to bed that night and Emmy calmed down and told me what she saw and I told her it’s ok I believe you. She told me it was big and dark and red eyes, watching her but the eyes were red or orange like the fire burning, but she said she saw what she said was hair off the arm holding the big pine tree. She told me it was just standing there watching her. The next day, daytime I asked her to show me where she saw the figure and it was the same spot as the night before when we went to look. The same the leaves were flat in the woods like something heavy was there and the same branch I saw the night before was bent or broken. Afterwards we did some gifting in the woods with marbles and had them replaced with rocks on the mosssy log. We had some feathers replaced with different feathers. Recently we had a 6 point deer skull blanched white with time and no meat or hair on it about 8ft up in an oak tree next to my woodpile for firewood. We recently had a deer leg same blanched white no meat or hair on it on the edge of the hay field up from the creek in a tree about 7ft off the ground. My daughter Emmy told me she wanted me to email you and tell you what she experienced." Tayler writes "My husband and I are originally from Arkansas. He was recently stationed back here for my his final duty assignment before retirement. We are big outdoors people hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, kayaking you name it. Over the years, we’ve had a few strange encounters, and even my grandmother, who lives in a rural part of Arkansas, has had her own experiences. Last weekend, we went to float the Buffalo River and do some primitive camping. Not long after getting on the river, I was taking in the scenery and admiring the massive bluffs when I noticed a cave. As I focused on it, I caught movement off to the right along the bluff. At first, I assumed it was hikers, which isn’t unusual in that area. I pointed it out to my husband and said it looked like an adult and a younger teen. Then I realized something was off they appeared entirely brown in color. As I tried to get my husband to look, they suddenly disappeared into the cave. That’s when it hit me there aren’t any trails in that specific area that I’m aware of, and we know those trails pretty well. They were gone before he could see them. I was disappointed he missed it, both to confirm what I saw and to share the experience. As the day went on, I tried to rationalize it and mostly brushed it off. We continued floating for several hours, had a great time, and eventually made it to our campsite. We built a fire, cooked dinner, had a couple of drinks—just enjoying a rare kid-free adventure. That night, I woke up suddenly with my body shaking uncontrollably. My husband noticed and thought I was just cold and held me closer it was in the 40s, after all. But I told him I felt sick. He eventually went back to sleep, and that’s when I noticed a bluish-white ball of light hovering outside our tent. At first, I thought it might be the moon, but it didn’t make sense the light was coming from the wrong direction, and it was moving slightly. As I focused on it, I became violently ill. I was getting sick about every 30 minutes for hours. It was intense to the point where I genuinely felt like I was dying. At some point, I realized the light was gone. Not long after that, the sickness stopped. I remember just begging for it to be over so I could get some sleep. I hadn’t planned on reaching out, but today, while cleaning my house, I put on your newest episode the one where Rick talked about a woman who became sick after seeing a similar ball of light, possibly related to radiation exposure. SC EP:1253 The Quantum Bridge Project Rick writes “I was on your show about two years ago regarding my investigations into the potential paranormal aspects of the Bigfoot phenomenon. I would like to update you on my efforts (Quantum Bridge Project) and the progress we’ve made to date. As you know, I used to be the State Director for the Virginia Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network and investigated numerous UFO sighting reports to include purported “abduction” cases. I transitioned to the paranormal realm because of the apparent similarities in certain cases. I’ve been with the Center for Paranormal Research and Investigations (CPRI) for the past twenty-four years and, within the past eight years, started conducting “cryptid” research for the same aforementioned reasons. I chose CPRI because of their philosophy and the way they approached the paranormal using the scientific method. The organization has MDs, PhDs in sociology, educators, nurses, chemists, current and former law enforcement officers, etc. CPRI is a Virginia 501(c) nonprofit, educational organization with a Board of Directors. I approached their Board with a written research proposal requesting that we investigate the “cryptid” phenomena in the same fashion they approach the paranormal; using certain specialized instrumentation and equipment like thermal imaging/ recording devises, remote data loggers designed to measure various EM/ radiological fields, and certain environmental conditions. My proposal involved locating a potentially credible cryptid investigator and working with them in their respected field research areas in order to capture supporting data during a sighting. This would not only validate that something is actually occurring, but to potentially explain certain aspects of the phenomenon. I’ve attached this particular proposal for your reference. One of my investigators located Harley Owens; a fairly new cryptid investigator in the East Tennessee area. Some of his sightings have been validated by other independent investigators, so I decided to work with him. His research area is near Cosby, TN, which is one of the areas the late Scott Carpenter used to investigate. Over the past two years, Ive independently investigated this area with Harley to further gauge his credibility before devoting CPRI resources to this geographical area. During that time, I’ve seen strange tree structures, heard screams, roars, and strange “barn owl” sounds, I have also seen those infamous” lights” that are seemingly associated with the Bigfoot phenomenon. On one occasion, I saw one of these “lights” at night on my thermal imager. It was moving intelligently through the forest. Interestingly enough, when I tried to see the light without the thermal, it wasn’t visible. When I looked through the thermal, it would reappear, indicating it had some type of invisible heat source. Harley was next to me and wanted to see the light through the thermal. When he looked through it, he saw the light and, as it approached a dirt road, he said the light “transformed” into an upright being exhibiting a heat signature. It walked across the road and up an incline towards an adjacent knoll. I didn’t see this; however, about one minute later, I heard a loud scream and an “owl’ like vocal come from this same knoll. This scream was extremely loud and lasted about two to three seconds. It also sounded like some type of primate. It was immediately followed by an “owl” vocal, which didn’t seem right. On another investigation in July of 2024, Harley and I were in his research area one night when we heard a loud, very intimidating roar (not scream) coming from another Ridgeline adjacent to a cemetery, which is the apparent focal point of the activity. This roar was so intimidating and loud, we were concerned for our safety. You could actually feel “rage” coming from whatever made it. I’ve never heard anything quite like it before, so we decided to pack everything up in order to make a quick exit if the situation called for it. We didn’t stay too much longer before we left the area. As you probably know, these so called “orb” sightings are very common in both Bigfoot and paranormal cases, which leads me to some information you and your listeners may find very interesting. Back in 2003, CPRI investigated a case near Bedford, VA. This case involved a lady who lived on a farm in a double wide home. The lady reported seeing shadows, hearing voices and reported poltergeist type activity throughout the house. During the course of our investigation, she related an incident that occurred in the early 80s. She was getting ready for bed, had just turned off the bedroom lights when she saw three “orbs” hovering in a level, straight line at the foot of her bed. They appeared to be the size of a softball and each exhibited a different color; one was orange, one was light blue and the last was reddish They emitted light and then moved in unison (line formation) down her hallway and made a 90 degree left turn into her dinning room. She immediately went to the dinning room to see where they went and couldn’t locate them. It was as if they just disappeared. The following morning, she went back into the dinning room and noticed three circular discolored/ burnt marks on her window screen. She believed these orbs went through the screen because they weren’t there before, the window was left open and each mark was about the same size of these orbs. We asked her about the screen and, fortunately, she had rolled it up and kept it in her barn and forgot about it. We went to the barn and she pulled it out. The screen still had these three strange marks on it, so we asked if we could have it analyzed. She agreed, so we gave it to one of our members who happened to be a Radiochemist and worked for a federal lab in eastern Virginia. He’s no longer with CPRI, so I’m not at liberty to divulge his name or where he worked without permission. He took the screen to his lab for analysis. A few weeks later, he sent us a report with his findings, which were intriguing. I’ve attached a document containing excerpts of his report to keep him and his employer’s information confidential. According to the report, the discolored sections of the screen were highly irradiated. The areas were so irradiated we decided to ask the lady some health questions. Around the same time as the orb incident, she did experience bad flu symptoms, nausea, fever and general weakness, which lasted about a week or two. She thought it was just the flu, but did reveal additional information that brings doubt to that conclusion. A few years later, the had to have hip replacement surgery. After the surgery, the doctor asked if she had ever had radiation therapy. When she said no, the doctor said the bone structure of her hip was porous. It appeared to have been subjected to a type of radiation. Apparently she may have been exposed to a great deal of radiation that night. This is not to say that all orb phenomena contains radioactive properties, but it appears these lights did. In March of 2025, I assembled a team from CPRI and we (along with Harley) conducted a preliminary investigation of the Cosby site. The team consisted of Harley, myself, an archeologist, University Professor and another retired law enforcement officer. We did take some instrumentation with us. During the course of three days, we found several unusual tree structures, interviewed a resident in the area and conducted night surveillance. The primary location was the site of an old cemetery, which seems to be the focal point of the activity. We were able to witness unusual light activity in the cemetery. This took the form of small red points of moving light. Another larger red light was also seen depending in a straight line towards the same Ridgeline that the “roar” was heard a year earlier. Our archeologist witnessed a large, indistinct dark mass cross in front of him through the cemetery. He was wearing an Apple Smart Watch with embedded bio sensor at the time. He was able to pull the heart rate data from the watch and, at the exact time he witnessed this event. His heart rate jumped from 66 BPM to 124 BPM. On one occasion, our professor also witnessed a small green light hovering about thirty feet above the cemetery. These lights couldn’t readily be explained. SC EP:1247 Naked & Afraid Spoke to the witness and he has agreed to come on the show. A listener writes "I recently attended a meeting of my local Purple Heart chapter for combat wounded veterans. There were six of us in total three from the Global War on Terror and three Vietnam veterans. What stood out was that every Vietnam veteran who had been wounded shared that they had seen what they called a “rock ape.” As they told their stories, the rest of us those from GWOT, myself included remained quiet. After the meeting, I spoke privately with another GWOT veteran, who admitted he had also witnessed unusual things while serving as an Army instructor on a base. My own experience happened on the eastern shore of Cougar Reservoir in Oregon. I was camping with my family when, close to midnight, something began approaching our campsite. I first heard heavy footsteps about 100 meters away. As it drew closer, I realized I had to stand my ground. It was moving toward us steadily not sprinting, but deliberately giving my ex-wife time to turn on the SUV’s lights and get our two toddlers out of the tent and into the vehicle, about 40 feet away. I positioned myself between the approaching figure and my family. It came down from a hill toward our campsite by the water, a distance I later confirmed to be about 100 meters. When it got within roughly 40 meters, I fired a couple of warning shots with my 9mm, though it felt completely inadequate. My plan, if it came closer, was to aim for the eye shine to buy my family more time. At around 20 30 meters, I could feel the vibration of its footsteps through the ground beneath my bare feet. Strangely, it kept its eyes covered as it approached. The SUV’s headlights were shining directly at it on high beams, yet I couldn’t see any eye reflection. I’ve never been able to shake the feeling that it understood what I was trying to do. It stopped about 12 feet in front of me and remained there while we finished loading the car. Once everyone was inside, I slowly backed away, got into the SUV, and drove us out along the narrow road leading from the campsite. For most of the encounter, I actually thought I was dealing with an elephant something large that could move quietly despite its size. I heard no brush breaking, despite the dense vegetation only the sound of its footsteps. I didn’t smell anything, even when it was close. When I finally saw it clearly, my first thought was that it looked almost artificial, like something constructed. It took a while to come to terms with what I saw. I have no doubt that these creatures exist as living, physical beings. What unsettles me most is the pattern described by the Vietnam veterans each of them had seen one shortly before being wounded in separate incidents. My own encounter came much later, as did the other GWOT veteran’s. Over the years, I’ve spoken with hundreds of veterans, often asking those with extensive time in the wilderness if they’ve ever experienced anything unusual. Most say no, or mention only distant, unexplained sounds. But in that room of Purple Heart recipients, only one of the six had not directly described seeing something. The rest of us had encountered what appeared to be a large, upright walking ape. Half of those sightings reportedly occurred just days before being wounded. When I was 14, back in July or August of 1994, I took my small scooter down a rough dirt road used by the local power commission to access power lines. About half a kilometer in, the terrain got too difficult to keep going, steep dips and uneven ground, so I shut the bike off to take a break. It was a warm, sunny day around midday. Out of nowhere, everything went completely silent. The best way I can describe it is like someone put ear protection over me. I had never experienced anything like that before. As I looked back down the path I had just come from, I saw something I’ll never forget. About 500 feet away was a creature that looked somewhat like an African lion, but… not right. Its eyes were solid black, and it had a full mane around its head. I couldn’t see its hindquarters clearly because they were partially obscured by trees and brush. It was on all fours. The closest comparison I can make is that it resembled what some people describe as a Dogman.” At that point in my life, I was a paperboy with excellent eyesight, and I saw all kinds of dogs on my route regularly. This was not a dog. I was absolutely terrified. There was something about it that felt wrong, almost like it didn’t belong in this world. I can still remember its mane moving slightly in the breeze and the intense, predatory stare it had locked on me. After about 10–12 seconds of just staring at each other, I tried revving my little 70cc bike, hoping to scare it off. It didn’t react at all. After another several seconds, it slowly backed into the woods without ever breaking eye contact. That’s when it hit me, I had to go back the same way I came. There was no other way out. I was genuinely afraid it might circle around or ambush me if I stayed any longer, so I made the decision to go. I sped past the spot as fast as that little bike would take me, pretty much expecting it to come crashing out of the woods at any moment. About seven years later, I told a friend who lived in that area about what I saw. He told me his father had reported seeing something very similar around that same time. For context, I later spent 10 years working as a police officer and have seen a number of unusual things during that time, some of which might be worth sharing as well. One other detail that’s always stuck with me: around that same period in my life, I had also experimented with a Ouija board, and that led to an experience that still bothers me to this day. SC EP:1236 The Black Cloaked Figures Tonight we will be speaking to Seth and Seth writes "I grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, and went to college there too. That’s where this story took place. It’s not a Bigfoot encounter at least I don’t think it is. Honestly, I’m not sure what kind of encounter it was. All I know is that it happened to me. I’ve often wished someone could explain it, tell me what it was or what it meant. It happened on October 31, 2001, under a full blue moon, along one of the quietest stretches of the Blue Ridge Parkway. At the time, I was driving a 1970 Chevy Bel Air an old steel boat of a car and I had pulled into the James River overlook near Goff Mountain Road. It was close to midnight. The moon was so bright it almost felt like daytime. Some stood still. Others seemed angled toward me. It was like they absorbed the moonlight instead of reflecting it. I turned to my left, toward the grassy median beside the car, and saw more shapes there. Maybe three to eight of them, lying flat on the ground like bodies. Each time I looked away and then looked back, they were closer. But they never moved while I was watching. No sound. No crawling. Just different positions every time my eyes shifted. Then I noticed something near the driver’s side of the car. Three smaller figures, only five to ten feet away. These weren’t tall like the ones near the trees. They were crouched or hunched close to the ground, almost like children playing. Under each hood there was a faint flicker like someone trying to light a cigarette lighter that never quite caught. Meanwhile the impacts on the car were coming faster and faster. At that point, instinct completely took over. I turned the key, threw the car into Drive, and sped out of the overlook as fast as I could. As I pulled away, those smaller figures were right beside my door. If the window had been open, I’m certain I could have reached out and touched them. They just watched. I drove for about five miles before finally pulling over. Nothing had followed me. When I got out and inspected the car, there wasn’t a single dent. No scratches. No debris. Nothing at all that explained what I had heard hitting the car. I’ve looked at that location on maps many times since then. But I’ve never gone back in person. Not once. I haven’t even driven that stretch of the Parkway again. There’s one detail that still bothers me, though. When I later looked at the spot on Google Maps, the overlook where I had parked appeared to be on the wrong side of the road. I clearly remember pulling into it on the right side from the direction I was traveling. But according to the map, it should have been on the left.
