Mistress Vania Changes Jobs: Ep.18 Amanda Receives a Key Riko had planted a listening device in the offices of The Hapten-Shufti Standard. However, this was not sufficient to record the conversation which occurred between Detective Rake and Amanda. The conversation had occurred in the reception area. It did detect a phone call between Amanda and Horace. This conversation was cryptic and not very helpful to Mistress Vania as she listened to it on her smartphone. What could leave them in no doubt was the article that was to follow a few hours later. Priding herself on getting to press quickly Amanda had her story written and sent to Horace with the greatest of efficiency and speed. As was expected Horace was overjoyed at the sensational nature of the story and the Nick Dunn tie-in. He matched it with a screaming headline: Kidney Kidnapping Crime Gang in Nick Dunn Frame Up. Mistress Vania read the story with a look of real concern. “This is not good at all,” she said, handing Riko the computer tablet. “They have quite good descriptions for each of us. And the description of the Lexus is so accurate there is no choice in the matter. It will have to go. We cannot even risk driving it out of Hapten-Shufti.” “We must do something quickly,” said Riko. “The people in this town are relentlessly stupid and curious. It is a bad combination.” “I know some Albanians,” said Mistress Vania. “They are friends of a friend. I can make a call. If we leave the keys in the ignition it will be gone in a matter of hours. Initially he had been cold, however, over time he adjusted to being slightly damp, near naked and lying on the cold tiled floor. “Being cold will help you burn more calories,” explained Mistress Vania. She said this as though she was recommending the benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables. “I think I understand, sort of,” began Roger. “You don’t want my kidney or money. You want to use your dominatrix ways to make me thin.” “Not just make you thin,” explained Mistress Vania. “Make you thin and make you like it. To stop you from going back to your old ways, stop you from getting fat again in a month. I can change the way people view themselves by domination, humiliation and punishment. I have always done this more generally with my clients. Now I want to apply it specifically to a given problem – obesity – and see if I can achieve the same results. Wholesale behavioral change. Food is the new sensuality. In my old work new avenues have been exhausted. At a party you can say you paid a dominant female a week’s salary to strip you naked, cover you in beef gravy and spank you with a life sized rubber raccoon. No one will think worse of you. They’ll just nod wisely. I blame the internet. However, go to the same party when you are severely overweight and you will be treated like a heretic in fifteenth century Spain. So instead, when thinking about her, he called her my love. Stoat was not unusual. Almost all men are at some point in their lives completely irrational over a woman. More commonly, they are irrational over any woman who gives them so much as a sideways glance. As for the women who are overtly hostile, they’re just playing hard to get. At least in the mind of the man who is on the receiving end of the hostility. For Stoat, Riko fell clearly into this last category. She had given Stoat no positive signals of any kind. Far from being discouraged, Stoat had rationalized that since Riko was a woman, she did not know her true mind. It was a challenge to him that he might win her over. In many ways Stoat and Roger suffered from a common problem. They overestimated how much attention women might pay to them. Neither of these two men had much to offer. Yet where hope was absent, delusion made a serviceable substitute. Stoat believed that the stars were aligned and with true commitment and purpose he could win Riko’s heart. At the end of his nightshift delivering pizzas Stoat’s brain was even more addled than usual. He made a vow to do whatever it took to impress Riko. To show her the real Grant Stoat, so that she might fall in love with him as he had fallen in love with her. Stoat even decided that he would take a night course at community college if necessary. Without knowing it, Stoat was becoming a problem. Mistress Vania did not like problems. With the man in the cap gone, Mistress Vania and Riko turned their attention back to Roger. “What was that man saying?” asked Riko. “It would seem,” said Mistress Vania. “That our car is very similar to the one owned by a famous jockey. Someone who appears in the local press. How that qualifies as news, I’m not sure.” “We must push him all the way in,” said Riko, referring to Roger’s legs which were hanging out of the trunk. The two women applied strenuous effort to the task of getting the back half of Roger into the trunk. The task seemed to be virtually impossible. The trunk was spacious, but Roger’s unconscious body was hard to move or arrange in anyway. It also refused to bend. “We can use ropes,” said Riko with an eager enthusiasm. “He will not move. We will secure him like lumber.” “I suppose we have little alternative,” conceded Mistress Vania. “Assuming you can get the ropes and the blanket out of the trunk.” Riko managed to wriggle through a gap in the trunk opening that was not currently completely filled by Roger. With great effort she extricated herself with a sports bag in her hand. Wrapping a blanket over Roger’s legs, Riko used an elaborate selection of knots to complete her task. By the end of the process Roger’s legs were bound and the lid of the trunk was tied down hard on his legs which still hung out from the knees to the feet. “That will have to do,” said Mistress Vania. With Riko driving the two women drove through the streets of Hapten-Shufti hoping not to attract any attention. They passed the shining new premises of Hapten-Shufti Lexus dealership. In the window was a large poster of celebrity jockey Nick Nunn and his new car. “It is a strange thing - coincidence,” said Mistress Vania. “No-one ever notices a Lexus. Her shoulder length straight black hair was wet with sweat. Running the length of the ceiling were a systems of beams from which she could operate a number of hooks and winches. The beams were massive and larger than the beams that supported the floor above. Riko’s knowledge as a Japanese rope master was essential to Mistress Vania’s plan. Yet Riko was being very cautious. She had never worked with someone so heavy. It would mean an upgraded rig and ropes. She sat on the floor exhausted. The shiny white tiles were smeared with dirt and building material. The tiles went from floor to ceiling. The beams had been painted to match the tiles. It was a very clinical room and imbibed a sense cruelty and detachment. Most importantly it was a room that would not detract from Mistress Vania. She had to be the center of everything. She was all important while the submissive was diminished to the point of nothing. During a session Riko knew her own role was both as an instrument and an extension of her mistress. To assist Mistress Vania it was necessary to give up your own ego. Riko was able to do this naturally and gratefully. She respected strength and in her eyes there was none stronger than Mistress Vania. Most of the construction work on the cellar was complete. There was still some cleaning to be done, but everything was in place. Getting to her feet she climbed the stairs slowly. On the ground floor Mistress Vania was reading a financial newspaper. She reclined in a comfortable chair. A full length skirt hung in pleats around her feet. “I didn’t know they made overalls that small,” said Mistress Vania, casually folding her newspaper. The overalls were like those worn by a motor mechanic or factory worker. “They do not,” said Riko, looking at her own small frame. “I sewed them myself. It was very satisfying. The old ones were too large and got in the way with their bagginess.” Being able to perform building construction and make your own clothes should have impressed Mistress Vania. However, she made a point of never being impressed by other people. It had overstimulated and softened the minds of her clients. Yet ignoring the internet was not the answer either. Virtually all of the world’s population were interacting with it one way or another. She had come to the conclusion that most people use the internet to squander all of their spare time and a good deal of their work time besides. Having discovered Roger’s full name – Roger Sky – she set Riko to work on the internet. After half an hour of pointing and clicking, Riko reported that because Roger was under thirty and single, his entire life was an open book as a result of social networking sites. Mistress Vania scrolled through Roger’s page, viewing his profile, his likes and dislikes, messages posted to him from his friends, messages he posted to them, photographs he wanted to share, usually of him and his friends drunk at nightclubs. It was all very informative. Over the last five years, Roger had gone from slightly plump to properly fat. The gallery of photographs on his page chronicled this progression right up to the figure they had seen receiving a pizza the night before. Finally, Riko presented to her mistress the dating website. The profile photograph was still the same, showing a much thinner Roger. “He is looking for love,” said Mistress Vania, nodding. “Honey-pot,” said Riko. “Say yes. Say yes. I will say to him: Dokushin desu. I am single.” “It’s a poor position to put you in,” said Mistress Vania. “There are so many variables. So much could go wrong.” Using a beautiful woman to entice men to a terrible fate was known colloquially as a honey pot. Riko had done this kind of work in the past, although not for Mistress Vania. Riko was perfectly suited to the task. Her small frame and delicate manner made her seem harmless. Men who had this impression of Riko sometimes found out they were very wrong. Notwithstanding Riko’s mostly latent capacity for cruel violence, the honey pot work was heavy on alluring and light on everything else the man was hoping to find. She walked around the car dealership showroom snapping photographs of people eating canapés and sipping budget sparkling wine. Horace had been very clear. She was to cover the opening of Hapten-Shufti’s new Lexus dealership. The owner of the dealership, Brad Hooper, had signed up for three months of advertising. Therefore, on that basis, as Horace had explained, Mr. Hooper expected value for money. Brad Hooper prided himself on being a super salesman. He was certainly good at selling himself. His tailored Italian suit and extravagant Swiss watch shouted money and success. Amanda had to admit, begrudgingly, that he was charming in an annoying sort of way. She had been told by a number of different people that he had been married four times. And further informed that, despite being a multiple divorcee, he still got on well with all of his previous wives. He had achieved the seemingly impossible goal of an amicable divorce – not once, but three times. Amanda thought the more generous the settlement, the more amicable it would be for them. Brad had money. It came to him in the form of property investments, car dealerships and a fleet of recreational deep ocean fishing boats. A local celebrity jockey, Nick Dunn, had arrived to be the first person to purchase a new Lexus from the dealership. His vehicle was a very handsome, very large Lexus LS. In gun metal gray it was a nondescript vehicle in Amanda’s opinion. Yet the jockey was a local identity who was much admired for having won a significant horse race earlier that year. Amanda noted that it was always the small men who chose the largest cars. Figuring this was the closest thing she could find to a story, she attempted to photograph him in his new car. From most angles all she could see was the top of his head. In the end, out of desperation, Amanda suggested that he stand in the back seat and put his body through the open sunroof. Ep. 4: Roger Goes on a Date. “Computer games are the new cinema,” said Roger, adjusting the microphone on his computer headset. “Seriously, I’m not the only person to have said it, but the cut scenes in Unreasonable Travesty 6, could have been a movie. I was there. I saw the comments in the forums. When it went on-line, people thought it was the trailer to a movie, not a game.” There were two distinctive characteristics that made Roger special, although he would never have guessed what they were. Roger was obese and lived in Hapten-Shufti. These two reasons alone substantially increased the chances of sudden and violent life changes. Yet Roger remained blissfully unaware of this new danger. Far from being worried, he was in the middle of an explanation to his friend Hank, outlining his theory that computer games would supplant Hollywood film. “If it doesn’t have a controller,” said Roger, pausing for effect. “Then it’s lame - period.” Hanks smiling face appeared in a video chat window on the computer screen. “They’ll never make a game that captures the badness of a great B-movie,” said Hank, not giving any ground in the argument. “The computer game industry is too slick. Indy games don’t do it either. They’re too aspirational.” “You have to be kidding me,” said Roger. “Indy games are more ironic than any B-movie you care to mention.” “Your argument is like your love life,” said Hank. “It’s full of crap. It just won’t stand up.” “I’ll have you know,” said Roger, cut by this last comment. “In two hours I leave to go on a date with an incredibly hot woman.” “Where did you meet her,” asked Hank, cautiously searching for the next opportunity to take down his friend another notch. “On-line,” said Roger vaguely. Hank smelt a rat.
