In addition to these extrememly successful side-hustles, she is the Editor of Tulsa Kids Magazine, where she has been for over thirty years. Our visit will shed light into finding a publisher, she connected with Oklahoma-based, Roadrunner Press, along with her background and the timing of when she started writing and illustrating books - because it happened after her kids were grown! Lorena Rivas is hard-working, determined, smart and witty. She wears many hats, including wife, mother, and successful Immigration Attorney. Her background in the legal profession has taken her on an incredible professional journey that has led to entrepreneurship. Prior to Covid, she was working 70 - 80+ hours a week and burning the candle at both ends. Although she loved what she was doing, she knew she was close to reaching burnout. However, everything changed for her and her business in 2020 and she was able to reset. She took some time to shift the focus of her business and make some instrumental changes. She even got creative by utilizing social media to expand her business and the growth was exponential! Now, she leads a team of professionals who share her vision. The bottom line: the changes she made have reaped big rewards personally, professionally, and financially! In fact, Rivas and Associates just earned an impressive accolade from Inc. Magazine ranking her firm as the 31st Fastest Growing Company in the Southwest Region. Throughout this process, she has become savvy in business and is expanding her services into consulting with other attorneys who are looking to build their businesses as well. She doesn't shy away from a challenge and is not afraid to dream big! She recently bought a building that will become the new company headquarters. During our visit, she shares a little about her humble beginnings growing up in a town of only fifty people, how an attorney helped her family when she was young, as well as the process she took in earning her J.D. Degree. You'll also hear more about how she is growing her business in exciting new ways along with her plans to give-back!

But then we get into her business. She is a true entrepreneur at heart and shares about her education and passions coming together to form the EQ brand. She is a passionate equestrian who saw a niche market and developed a clothing line known as EQ Wear. She also shares a story about going to a show to market her product but not having any product to sell and what she did to make her idea work. And of course, creating a kid friendly space was especially important because they have four young kids themselves!

Mia Mascarin-Oven is a fourth-generation wine maker living in Tulsa. She joined the family wine business, 32 Winds Wine, shortly after her father realized his own life-long dream of starting a wine business and opened the vineyard in 2009. Prior to joining the venture, she logged twenty plus years working in the energy industry. Mia’s family left California and moved to Oklahoma, where she grew up and went to high school. She stayed close to her Italian immigrant family back in California through frequent visits to the family farm. She and her father decided to deepen their ties to their California roots by embarking on the adventure of starting a winery there. Her job duties are primarily accomplished remotely, so she is able to live anywhere and enjoys the city and lifestyle that Tulsa provides. Mia is extremely passionate about giving back to the community and does so in a variety of ways. This interview shares more about Mia, her background of over a decade in the family wine business and why she thinks it’s important to give-back.
