The Grace Prayers: Prayer of Adoration Lord enthroned in the heavens, we declare our praises unto You as the Great and Glorious One who reigns upon high over us all. We praise You as the eternal one, who is unchanging in every age and beyond the ages. We praise You as the Son who taught us and died for us, living the life of man, showing us all the glories of how to live. We praise You as the Holy Spirit alive in our hearts, the constant presence of God with us, for You are the God of us personally, as well as the God in the glory of heaven. Praise be unto You, our glorious God, Father Son and Holy Spirit. Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving Gracious God we give our thanks for all that You have given us. We thank You for the glories of the summer, the bright colours and light, the promise of harvest’s bounty, and the joy of feeling the sun warm us. We thank You for the gifts You give us as Our Saviour, the forgiveness of sins, the guidance to make our lives better, and the help to endure all the things this imperfect world can throw at us. We give thanks for the hope we have to come, of eternal life in heaven with our God and all the saints who have gone before us, our dear friends and the millions of Christians of the past. Thanks be unto You, Our most generous God, Amen. Prayer of Confession Forgiving Lord, we come before You to make our confession of our sins. Lord, we have strayed from the paths of Righteousness into the ways of wickedness. We have not done as we ought, instead rushing headlong into the ways of sin and wrongdoing. We have acted against Your Laws, and failed to do those things that would have helped others. We have been slow to praise You, and swift to complain when the ways of this world turn against us. Lord God, we ask You to Forgive our sins. We know, that when we are truly sorry for our sins, you say to us, “Our sins are forgiven”. We say Lord, God, thank you for forgiving us, and we ask You to aid us in these coming days to do better than we have before. Thanks be to You Our God, Amen. Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done On Earth as it is in Heaven Give us this day, our daily bread And forgive us our Trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For Thine is the Kingdom, The Power and the Glory Forever and Ever Amen Prayers of Intercession Lord Our God, We Pray For The World We pray for the continued roll out of the Vaccine, for all those who are working to help the afflicted and for the end of these time of restrictions, fear and struggle. We Pray For Those Living In Places Stricken By War and Disaster, May They Know Help We Pray for O Christian Brethren At Home And Abroad, May Their Numbers Increase And Sorrows Decrease, especially those persecuted. We Pray For All Who Struggle With Illness, Grief, And Difficulty, May They Know Your Comforts. We Pray For All Who Are Unable To See The Good In Their Lives, May Their Eyes Be Opened. We Pray For Our Nation and Royal Family, Lord, Guard and Guide All Who Dwell In These Lands. We Pray For Ourselves In Our Difficulties, May We Come To Know The Joys Of Our Lives. We praise You as the One Who put all the world into motion and is not bound by anything of this world. We praise You as the Blessed Trinity, all of which was needed to make the world form into its being, and Aid us all so very much. We praise You, mindful of Your Greatness and Majesty, that is beyond our comprehension. Thus we praise You, Father Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving Gracious God, we give thanks for all Your Loving gifts to us, from the gifts of the morning, springtime and friendship that put smiles on our faces, to the most glorious gift of the resurrection which You brought to pass for us, that we might have the hope and example of the life eternal, knowing that death is not the end. We Give thanks for all Your gifts to us, for those we can easily call to mind and those we take for granted so much that we forget they too are Your gifts. So we pray, and say, Lord God, Thank You. We join our voices with angels and archangels, and all the choirs of heaven in praising You Our Lord, who came amongst us in flesh and blood, riding upon a donkey, yet still so clearly God that people paved the way for You to enter in fitting majesty. We forget not where that week led, and all that You endured and turned to triumph, for we know that You are the King of Kings, and the Lord of All creation. Praise be unto You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen. Prayer of Thanksgiving Generous God, whose gifts fill our lives, we thank You for all Your wonderful mercies to us. We thank you for all the gifts You have given us, and this Holy Week we especially thank You for the wonderful things You have done for us. For we know that no matter how far mankind may sink, your love is deeper still. Mothering Sunday Sermon - A Christian Family - 14th March 2021 Mothering Sunday 2021
Mothering Sunday Service 14th March 2021 All Hymns in most hymnals Prayers for use with this sermon below the Order of Service Order of Service Hymn: All Praise to Our Redeeming Lord Prayers Lord’s Prayer Hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness 1st Reading: 2nd Reading: Hymn Great Shepherd of Thy People Hear Sermon Hymn God of Eve and God of Mary Prayers of Intercession Hymn Now thank we all our God The Grace Prayers Prayer of Adoration Unto You Our God do we render our praises, here gathered once more glad of the light that you bring unto our hearts. We praise You as the Father above, who gathered all creation into its place and was mindful as much of the atoms of a flower as the planets and stars. We praise You as the Son, the living proof, whose glorious tales still resound amongst us all so long after your birth. We praise You as the Holy Spirit, alive in us as bright and busy as the sunlight in the spring. We adore You as our God, the one we worship and declare plainly to be the Lord of All Creation. Praise be unto You, for all time, Amen Prayer of Confession Forgiving Father, we bring before You the sins that burden our hearts and afflict our lives. We confess all the wrongful things we have done. We admit the times we have left our hands idle when they should have been busy, when our tongues have let loose cruel words, all those times we have let our thoughts stray into viciousness and cruelty. We admit all our sins, and we admit that we are sorry for them. As we confess them, and seek forgiveness, we open our hearts to that most blessed forgiveness that You give unto us all, as You say “Our Sins Are Forgiven”, not because we are worthy, but because your love is sufficient to forgive us anything. We thank You that the sacrifice of Your Son washes away our sins, leaving us free to go about cleansed in the world, and we ask You to aid us to resist sin and do good in its place. These we ask, in the Name of the Father, with thanks to the Son, and the aid of the Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving We pray God to give our thanks for all the gifts you give unto You. We thank You for the gifts of hearth and home, where we may rest ourselves, and Church where we may revive our souls. We pray for the mercies poured out for us in the wondrous gift of the Cross, and the joys of this day when we remember those who mother. We thank You for all the things You have given us thus far, and all those yet to come. Thanks be Unto You Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer for Mothering Lord God, this day we especially pray for those who are tasked with mothering, in all its forms. We pray for the first-time mothers in all their uncertainties and worries. We pray for the mothers with many children, may they know strength. We pray for all who do the duties of mothers, adoptive parents, family and friends of parents who are charged to bring up baby. We pray for those who have no children of their own, yet set about looking after the children of others with much cheerfulness. We pray for those who long for a child, mindful of the miracles of faith and science that mean such hope is not in vain for many nowadays, adding often to the sorrow of others. We pray for all those who have no mother to run to, may they know the certainty of Heaven and the mothering Church, wherein all may know help and support. Lord, we ask Your care and guidance upon them all, and strength to all who need it. Amen Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Prayers of Intercession We bring our prayers of Intercession before God to ask his help in the world, as in the traditional way there is a response, after the words “Lord Hear us” the response is, “Lord, Graciously Hear us” Lord Hear us Lord Graciously Hear us Those in Want O Lord we bring before You those who are in want of material things, be it of food, of water, of shelter or anything else that is necessary to life. Lord, we know that their stories are many and varied, as are their needs. So we ask that where we can help their relief from want, we shall know how to do so, and shall set to it with a will. Where we cannot help them with our hands, we pray for the hands and hearts of others to be moved to help with all possible speed. We pray for this Church and Circuit, tending the flame of the Spirit amidst our broad skies and comfortable homes. We pray for the Church in lands abroad, for we know that we have brethren in every land, under every flag and crown, for all wreaths of Empire meet upon Your Brow. We ask that the Church may flourish in every corner of the world, and be safe from those who would work for the Evil One amongst the sheep. We pray for those who lack the knowledge of You our God, whether they be in total ignorance, know but little of the Gospel, or if they know all but the surety of faith. We ask God that we may be a help to those we can to know You, as Father Son and Holy Ghost. For those we cannot reach, we pray for the armies of preachers, ministers and clergy, missionaries, Sunday School Teachers and honest Christians who are abroad in the world and able to help spread the news of You, that their tongues might speak freely and that ears may be open to them. Praise be unto You, Father Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving God of all good gifts we bring before you our thanks for all you have done for us. We thank you for the good things that bring smiles to our faces in these difficult times. We thank You for all the gifts of our faith, those which sustain us in this world, and the certain promise of the next. Thanks be unto You, Father Son and Holy Spirit Amen. Prayer of Confession Lord our God, we’ve made a mess of things. We have taken Your Good Gifts and put them to wicked uses. We have let our thoughts stray to cruelty, revenge and malice. We have hoped for bad things to happen to others and we have forgotten to turn to You when we should. We have sinned Lord God, and we are sorry. We ask Your Forgiveness, not because we’ve done anything to earn it but because You Love us so much that no matter how badly we go wrong, you forgive us. For this we are so very grateful as we are lifted up from the depths of sin to the light of Your Love. Thank You God. For Your love and greatness are so far beyond our understanding, yet You are always with us, guiding and sustaining us. You made the heavens and the earth, and set them in their places, for from You all blessings flow. You came amongst us in your Son Jesus Christ, to suffer for our sins, and grant us forgiveness in Grace. Still Your Holy Spirit, poured out amongst us is within us even now, drawing us ever nearer to You. For all these gifts, through which we can know You, we praise You, Adore you and Thank You, O Lord Our God, Amen. Prayers of Confession Father God, on this first Sunday in Lent, we bring before you our sins. Lord You know what temptation is, and that we have succumbed to sin. We have not followed in Your teaching as we ought, we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have failed to love others as ourselves, we have not thought of the needs of others in pursuit of satisfying our own. In the silence, we call to mind those sins that weigh heavily upon us. For all our sins, those we can remember and those we have forgotten, we ask You Lord to forgive us. We know that in the Grace and Love of Your Son Jesus Christ, Our Sins are forgiven. Amen. And we say together the Prayer that Jesus taught us: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. Prayers of Intercession Gracious God, we come before You in Prayer for the sake of the World around us. We pray for the World, asking for the knowledge of your Love and Grace to go out with your Church to every corner of the world. In this difficult time, we pray for all our Christian Kin to heed the Holy Spirit within them, and that all may hear Your message of Love and reassurance in this difficult time. We pray for those abroad, who struggle under cruel and vicious tyranny, those who endure poverty, the ones who have heard your calling, and followed despite terrible risks. Lord we ask that they may know better times soon. We pray particularly for those who are stricken with Covid, and all who are struggling with other illnesses at this time, and all who are trying to offer the help of health in these days. We pray for all the lands suffering under the cruelty of humanity’s wickedness, we pray especially for the Victims of China, for those killed in Myanmar/Burma, those who live in fear in Russia, and for all the places without peace, Lord, restore calm and order, and help heal those nations wounded by violence and devilry. We pray for our leaders, our Royal family, praying for them as Prince Philip lays in hospital, Lord, grant Him restoration to his family, and uphold Her Majesty the Queen and all the Royals at this time of worry, Lord, Grant them hope. We pray too for our politicians, Grant them wisdom and obedience to your laws O God, so that they will do Your will, and serve Your people faithfully. We pray for our nation, in all its difficulties, may the Good News of Christ, come unto all who are desperate to hear some Good News in these times. We bring before you those known to us (here pray for those who are worried for, and bring to God your own worries) Lord we pray for them all, trusting in Your power, mercy and Love to comfort and help them, and us. We pray that we may be used to help those around us, ever more to do Your work. Amen.

We praise You As the God who made all creation, from the shoots of spring that appear from the ground, to the stars in the Sky. We praise You as the Christ, who was beheld in the world by men, knowing that here was more than a man. We praise You as the Holy Spirit, alive in us to burn at our hearts. This day We declare that You are our God, beloved in all ages, and after time itself. Amen Prayer of Confession Forgiving Lord, we bring before You the burden of our sins. We know that even with all the chances we have had to do what is good and right, we have instead done what is bad and wrong. We call into mind our sins, knowing that some we did and felt the wrongfulness of at once, and others we at first called right. We say, Lord God, we are sorry for the things we have done wrong. We come before You and ask Your Forgiveness for all we have done wrong with the things You made for us. You look upon us and say “Your Sins, are forgiven.” Not because we are worthy of such, but because Your Love is sufficient to forgive us all our sins. We are thus cleansed of all the dirt and degradation of sin, and we go forth, bright and clean, because of all You have done for us. Thanks be unto You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving God our Father, we thank You for all the gifts You have given us. As we enjoy this time of Epiphany, we live with the joys of the year to come, its seasons, festivals, news and happinesses. We behold the many comforts and wonders of our age, where we are freed from so many of the worries of our forebears. We praise You as the one who does so much for us in our ordinary lives, strengthening us in our everyday duties and cares, and aiding us at the greatest times of trial in our lives. We thank You that we may learn of You anew each day, and shall yet behold You, enthroned in Splendour in the heavenly Kingdom. Thank You God. Amen Lord’s Prayer Our Father, Who art in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For thine is the Kingdom, The Power and the Glory Forever and ever, Amen Prayers of Intercession Lord, in Your Mercy Hear our Prayer The Wider World Lord God we pray for the world. We know there are so many, not in far and distant lands but in the community around us. Lord may they know sufficient curiosity to ask and find those who can give them true and honest answers. May we be able to speak of You freely forever, whether it be unto the young, the adult or the aged, and May we have the opportunity to do so, and the sight to see when it is laid before us. We ask that we may be a help to those around us, in every way that You need us to be. Lord, in Your Mercy Hear our Prayer Ourselves and our faith God our Father, we pray for ourselves, for we are not always as certain as we should be, Lord, give us strengthened Confidence in You. We ask that when we are busy and worried, You will remind us that even then, we can depend on You. We pray that we may see You at work in our lives, and the lives of those dear to us. Lord, make us ever more and more happy that we are Your People. Lord, in Your Mercy Hear our Prayer Gracious God, we have prayed and we know that You have heard our prayers. May we this coming week be mindful of You, and see You at work in the world. Amen.

Praise be unto You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Confession Gracious God, We bring before You the burden of our sins. For though we have been given every good thing we possess, yet have we turned Your gifts to wrongful purposes. We have encouraged malice and cruelty, even with our own tongues and typing, we have failed to be fonts of kindess and charity. We have acted to others’ loss, and our own gain. We have discouraged those we should have encouraged, and criticised those we should have praised. We have not done all we could for others, and expected more of others than we ought. We bring before You the burden of all our wrongdoing, and say, Lord God, we are sorry. Then we hear Your loving words, “Your Sins are forgiven”, for when we are sorry, You cleanse us of our sins, and forgive us, not because we are worthy, but because Your love is sufficient unto all forgiveness. Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving Lord of all, we bring our thanks to You for all the things You have given us. We Thank You for the World itself, from the icy poles to the Tropics and deserts. We Thank You for the seasons, especially Winter with its joys and occasions. We thank You for this season of Advent, and the preparations for Christmas with its joy in the birth of Your Son, God incarnate. We Thank You For Coming amongst us as The Son and performing miracles before the eyes of men, and dying for us upon the Cross. We thank You too for the gift of Easter and the certain promise of the resurrection. We Thank You Too for the gift of The Holy Spirit, poured out in us all, to animate us With Your Spirit. Thanks be Unto You, Glorious Triune God. Amen Lord’s Prayer Our Father, Who art in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For thine is the Kingdom, The Power and the Glory Forever and ever, Amen Prayers of Intercession Lord Hear Us Lord, Graciously Hear Us World Lord God we pray for the world around us. We ask that we may be a light to them so that they may come to know You. We pray that we may be seen to be worthy servants of Christ, and in our lives may we burn so brightly with the Holy Spirit as to be a light to the Gospel for our neighbours. Lord Hear Us Lord, Graciously Hear Us Ourselves We pray Lord God for ourselves. You know us utterly, from the innermost thoughts of our hearts to our most public deeds. We ask that You strengthen us to do what we ought, whether we want to or not. We ask that our dearest desires may be worthy of fulfilment and that we shall see those things come to pass, and know it as Your Work. Lord Hear Us Lord, Graciously Hear Us Assurance of prayers being answered We Pray O God, knowing that when we pray, You hear our prayers, and You will always give them answer. We ask that we may know such answers as proof of You, and the truth of Your Promises. Amen. We pray for those Churches worrying for the future, may they be filled with the Holy Spirit to go forth and tell, and find willing ears to listen. We pray too for those worrying over worldly things, Lord, keep their worries from distracting them from the wonders of You. Lord Hear Us Lord, Graciously Hear Us The sick Father God we pray for those who are Ill. We pray for those who are faced with hospital stays and operations, may they come through safely. We pray for all those whose ailments need doctor’s appointments and pills, may they be helped by their medicines. We pray for those at home, recovering, may they be able to know progress and ask Your aid to cheer them. We pray too for all those doctors, nurses, chemists, porters and so forth who work for the aid of the sick. May they be see much success in their work and avoid error and exhaustion. We pray for those known to us as unwell, (especially…) Lord Hear Us Lord, Graciously Hear Us Locally We pray for this community around us, for all those who are kin and neighbours. We pray for both those we know and care for, and those who are yet only faces to us, yet are Your beloved Children too. We pray for them in their needs and wants. Amen.

We join in our praise with the millions who have gone before, throughout the ages, who declared that You are our God, and we know that those praises shall continue for all time, and after time in the Kingdom of Heaven. Praise be unto You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving God of all Goodness, we give You thanks for Your gifts, poured out for us in great abundance, for we know that it is thanks to You we enjoy every good thing, and that we enjoy every mercy given unto us. We thank You for the joys of the wintertime, the clear mornings and the hope of snow, the pleasures of being tucked up in the warm of an evening, and the promises of spring to come. We thank You for all the gifts that come to us through Christ, for the gift of Forgiveness, of Salvation, and the promise of the life hereafter. We thank You O God, For we know that all this is from You. Thanks be unto You, Father Son and Holy Spirit, Amen Prayer of Confession Forgiving Father we bring before You our sinful burden. We confess that we have not always done as we ought, instead we have sinned and left those things we should have done undone. We do not remember the needs of others and we often fail to see You in all things. We say to You, Lord God, we are sorry for All our sins. We ask You to forgive us. Having sought forgiveness, we know that You say to us that Our Sins are forgiven. For You are the Holy One, who can forgive us anything, as shown to us in the great sacrifice of Christ upon His Cross. Thanks be unto You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen. Lord’s Prayer Our Father, Who art in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For thine is the Kingdom The Power and the Glory Forever and ever Amen Prayers of Intercession We bring before God now our prayers for those whose needs are known unto us, and there is a response to these prayers, after the words Lord in Your Mercy, the response is Hear our Prayer Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. Lord we pray for those who have needs of the most basic sureties. We pray for those who know hunger, who know thirst or homelessness, or who live in warzones. We pray for all those who are working to bring us through this difficult time, and ask Lord God that you help us to endure to our deliverance. For those it is within our power to help, we pray that we shall not tarry to help, and for those we cannot help with our hands, we pray that You will enable others to help, and that they shall not want for will to help. We pray for everywhere that is struggling and all those who are enduring these times, that we may show God’s love to one another. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We pray for the Church, for the clergy and laity in Methodism and all denominations, those who work to bring the gospel to new places and those who work to tend the fires of the spirit in places where it has already begun to burn. We pray especially for our brethren facing persecution, asking your strength upon them and that You will uphold them through their trials, as You have always done in times past. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We pray for the needs of this country, for those who are tasked with government and administration. Lord guide them to their duties, give them the strength to do their tasks and to always be Righteous and proper in their conduct. We pray too for our Royal Family, asking that you tend to their needs as You tend to ours, and help them in their duties. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We pray for all those who are ill, asking that You comfort and sustain them, we ask for your help and blessings to those who are tasked with providing help to the ill, and that you grant success to the scientists working to find new cures and treatments. For Lord, we know that in all the wonders of modern medicine, Your hand moves. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We pray for those whose especial needs are known to us, we pray for (here read from the book) and in the time of silence we bring their names and needs before You. We ask Your help for them Lord, and we pray for those whose needs we do not know, for none are invisible in your sight Lord. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We pray for those needs of our own dear hearts Lord, we bring before You our own private sorrows, and we ask Your every help in our lives, and we ask that we may always have open eyes to see the joys that You bestow upon us, and the help You give us. Lord, in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayer. We ask for these things, knowing that when we pray, we are heard, and that we shall not want for an answer, as You promise in our scripture so often and show us in our lives. Thanks be unto you Father Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
