Uncle Drew Is In The Basement

Uncle Drew Is In The Basement
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and JumpmanBostic are joined by special guest, strategic creator, curator, and industry guru, Drew Greer and Chris Rogers, one half of the Cut & Sole Brothers, in the Basement of the Js. Uncle Drew and JumpmanBostic bond instantly over being in the Grey Suede group. Caesar isn't all that thrilled with the recent "Cherry" Air Jordan 12 Retro. During the height of BLM a few years ago, every brand hired Directors of Diversity to facilitate diversity and fairness in the industry. We wondered how many are left and if those were lame duck positions. Based on what we've seen, no one is looking for Nike's BHM Collection next year. Caesar pitches his Motown idea. Again. Caesar tries to make sense of JumpmanBostic's system of whistle blowing. There will be no Walt Frazier slander on this show. Is it really that egregious to say that "Bad" is a better album than "Thriller"? We agree with Kyle Kuzma, Nike is ruining the jersey game by releasing so many versions in one NBA season. Caesar asks Uncle Drew to go through every sneaker brand, along with retailers like Foot Locker, and pitch what he'd do to fix their business approach. Uncle Drew makes the argument that Iverson had more cultural impact than Jordan. And JumpmanBostic promptly blows the whistle on him, making him the first guest to get called for a flagrant on our show. We're still trying to get JumpmanBostic to Beaverton. Unc loves what Deion is doing in Colorado. And finally, Uncle Drew hears the infamous Michael Jordan Gatorade outtakes for the first time.

TSB Podcast Ep. 326: Nike Basketball Holiday Lineup
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and JumpmanBostic are in the Basement of the Js. JumpmanBostic swears Caesar hates Air Jordan 8s, leading to Caesar trying to prove his love for the shoe. Have you ever taken your shoes off to protect them from walking in the rain or in the grass? There's been a number of athletes getting snatched up by brands to have their own signature line. Moreso than ever before. But is it warranted? Caesar tells a story about a friend who ghosted a girl in-person because he was too ashamed to be seen with her in front of them. Grant Hill has a lifetime deal with FILA. We discuss signature athletes who have become synonymous with their brands. JumpmanBostic has NEVER liked ANY of Kanye's music. EVER. But guess who's music he does love? We give Connor TV, and his father, their flowers. Is there a lack of innovation in sneakers? Specifically in the sneaker industry? Speaking of which, will Nike revive their Adapt line? Better yet, will they ever do a general release of the Mag? JumpmanBostic never went to Freaknik..... Allegedly. JumpmanBostic pulls out some old photos back when he had hair. He then tells a story about a hair-do he had in the 80s. Caesar talks about the current UAW strike and how it directly affects him. We do a product test courtesy of Geeno and Pepsi. And finally, it might be the first time I'm a LONG time that we've been this excited for a Nike Basketball lineup.

TSB Podcast: EP.325 - Do brands REALLY care about social issues?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, and JumpmanBostic are in the Basement of the Js. We discuss the settlement in the Nike v. Kool Kiy court case. Is it a prelude of things to come? Do brands REALLY care about social issues, or are they just cash grabs? Should they stay out of those issues and just sell product? Meek Mill went to a sneaker event and put a reseller on blast about his approach to business. Was he wrong or was the way he went about it wrong? JumpmanBostic has never seen a Marvel movie..... Ever. Caesar almost made it through an episode without catching a whistle, but then he kept talking. And finally, Guru really is the worst. Lol. That's it. That's the quote.

TSB Podcast EP.324 - What makes a collaboration AUTHENTIC?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Guru, and of course, JumpmanBostic are in the Basement of the Js. We unintentionally end up playing "Never I Have I Ever...." with JumpmanBostic. You'd be surprised by the things he's never done. We discuss how Adidas moves forward without Kanye. What makes a collaboration "authentic" and does the marketplace care? What went wrong between Beyoncé, Ivy Park, and Adidas? We talk about how people get jobs at sneaker brands while not really being into sneakers themselves. Tim Grover makes the dumbest argument ever in the LeBron vs. MJ debate And finally, Caesar and Guru go back and forth over Caesar holding sneaker collaborators to higher standard than sneaker designers.

TSB Podcast Episode 323 - Yeezy Day (Re-Upload)
(Due to a technical problem that cut the episode in half, we re-uploaded the episode.) In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, JumpmanBostic, and Dunks are back in the Basement of the Js. The show begins with a new segment, "This Has Nothing To Do With Sneakers", talking about the Dwight Howard sex scandal. Allegedly he was better on defense than on offense. After a long hiatus, the crew talks about a hodgepodge of topics to get back into the groove of things, such as are people tired of the over saturation of sneaker collabs. Caesar thinks he can do a better J. Balvin X Air Jordan 3 than J. Balvin himself. And finally, the crew discusses the impact of the most recent Yeezy Day and if brands should go back to just selling products and stay out of social issues.

In this episode of TSB, after many months away the crew of Afrikan Caesar, JumpmanBostic, and Geeno reassemble back together in the Basement of the Js to bring back the show. A lots happened in their time away so they quickly run down the sneaker stories that they missed out on. From Kanye and Adidas, to StockX v. Nike, to Nike v. Kool Kiy, the crew give their thoughts on each topic. Caesar did a thing with Footwear News. He was on a panel where he named his "Sneaker of the Year" and "Collaboration of the Year" of 2022. Some of you might be surprised by his choices. And finally, the crew try to lock in which Sneaker Con event they're going to attend this year.

In this episode of TSB, Caesar and Geeno are in-studio. We touch on the controversy that was the Zadeh Kicks investigation. Caesar's girlfriend has him getting pedicures and going to church. What's next? Caesar talks about his trip to church and how he didn't burst into flames. Caesar talks about filming for The History Channel. Culver's is massively underrated. A podiatrist teamed up with a former Nike designer to create a boot for his diabetic patients that would lower the risk of amputation. And finally, can a general release beat out a collab for sneaker of the year?

TSB Podcast: EP 320 - Sneakers are being banned at nightclubs
In this episode of TSB, Caesar and Geeno are in-studio. Caesar has been getting a lot of phone scams lately, but he has his ways of dealing with them. SneakerPhetish did a written interview with Social Status and A Ma Maniére owner James Whitner only to see it sourced with no credit. This is an ongoing problem in the sneaker industry, specifically media, where people see their work poached by bigger platforms and names while not receiving any credit. Can sneakers really make a person look better? Does it work better or worse for men or women? Sneakers are being banned at nightclubs in cities like Scottsdale, Arizona. But like anything else, there's always exceptions. Caesar responds to a comment about race and sneakers. Caesar attended his first fashion show. It was quite the experience. The Salvation Army took issue Balenciaga's $1,850 Paris sneakers. The Drew League ditches Nike for the Three Stripes. We're still waiting to see something from the Jerry Lorenzo X Adidas Basketball partnership. Adidas and Reebok are looking to take full advantage of their new deals with Foot Locker. But will it work out long-term for the retail chain? And finally, keep Dunks in your thoughts and prayers. He was in a bad car accident recently but he's recovering well.

TSB Podcast EP. 319 - Is adidas stealing Kanye's designs?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and eventually Guru, are all in-studio. Does a "Sneaker of the Year" candidate have to be a collaboration? Under Armour continues to drop the ball despite having the table set for them. Caesar has had enough of Kanye's b.s., in particular, the notion that Adidas is stealing his designs. What is "retail privilege"? Someone was stabbed at a Nike Dunk release. Do people really want their sneakers authenticated over efficient shipping? Caesar details the conclusion to a behind the scenes situation that took over 3 years to settle. And finally, what are the most expensive Air Jordan 1s on the resell market. Caesar takes issue with one pair that didn't make the list.

In this episode of TSB, it's just Caesar and Guru in-studio. It's Guru's birthday. Show him some love of social media. Caesar got his first pedicure. Find out how that experience went and who finally talked him into it. StockX clapped back at Nike's accusations of fakes with one of the most lethargic sneaker authentications ever recorded on film. The Air Jordan XXX7s are a HUGE step backwards from the XXX6s. Caesar and Guru revisit their conversation concerning people spending their money on sneakers that they complain about. Can storytelling, celebrity cosign, and/or marketing save a bad sneaker? Caesar details new information about the Jerry Lorenzo partnership with Adidas Basketball. It ain't looking good. And lastly, Caesar directly addresses people in the sneaker community who proudly wear reps and have to lecture us about it.

TSB Podcast EP.317 - Nike Might be Moving on from Kyrie
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are in-studio. (Caesar's daughter makes a brief appearance). After a LONG hiatus the crew is back to discuss what's been going on in sneaker culture. Nike might be looking to move on from Kyrie Irving. Who do they replace him with on Nike Basketball? Caesar and Guru argue over whether or not the sneaker community needs to take on more ownership and accountability in regards to the money they spend and which products they spend it on. We intermittently get distracted with "90 Day Fiance: The First 90 Days" playing on the TV in the background. Nike and StockX are going at it. First it was over NFTs, but now Nike is alleging that StockX is passing off fakes. This might be the ultimate sneaker battle. Ironically, StockX recently released a list of the most expensive Air Jordans to ever be sold on their platform. If you're one of these people who purchased these shoes how uncomfortable are you now with your purchase? And finally, Caesar tells the story of the first, and last, time he planned a family vacation with his in-laws.

TSB Podcast: EP 316 - Our reaction to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock
In this episode of TSB, Caesar and Geeno are in-studio. Of course we had to give our reaction to the Will Smith v. Chris Rock situation. Air Max Day just passed. While it feels like a legitimate holiday, does it feel like it could be more? Is the content on the SNKRS app boring? Do people only watch in hopes of a drop? John Geiger is still an idiot. Nike is trademarking more of their popular silhouettes. You know, before other "designers" decide to create knockoffs of those too. Caesar finally finds out how to pronounce RTFKT. Preachers N Sneakers creator, Ben Kirby, was featured in the Discovery+ documentary about Hillsong church. We're starting a GoFundMe to get Geeno to a Sneaker Con. In This Week In Stupid, a woman in LA was stabbed while waiting in line at a Foot Locker. Caesar comes up with an idea to improve engagement on the SNKRS app. Nike suspends shipping to Russia, but not for the reasons you think. Vanessa Bryant and the Swoosh were finally able to come to an agreement to continue the Kobe line. Bad Vegan might go down as the WORST documentary ever. It's basically an attempt to rehab someone's image gone wrong.

TSB Podcast: EP 315 - Nike is creating its own virtual world
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are in-studio. Caesar and Geeno were watching "Tinder Swindler" on Netflix right before recording. They discuss what they watched so far. NFTs are stupid. There, we said it. We jump back into the ongoing conversation about Nike's future with Foot Locker. Caesar further elaborates on the points he made last episode. This leads into a discussion about Nike's overall strategy and how big their brand really is. Caesar was seeded a pair of the Nike GT Jump. He gives his review of Nike's newest basketball sneaker. Is Zion Williamson surrounded by yes men? Or is there an ulterior motive to his situation? The Lakers are a mess and LeBron owns some of that blame. Speaking of accountability, the Ben Simmons saga is finally over and was SO unnecessary. Remember when Lizzo was more known for her music? According to some of our reviews, Caesar is somehow accused of being racist. How? Yeezys vs. Jordans shouldn't even be a debate, but Guru and Geenon try it anyway. New Balance is being sued for alleged false advertisement. Nike is creating its own virtual world. John Geiger has finally lost his mind by taking credit for the Nike Air Force 1's popularity. And finally, a man in Singapore was sentenced to time in jail for bribing a manager at a Foot Locker for insider information such as sneaker release dates.

TSB Podcast: Episode 314 - Jordan 1 Mids look dumb
In this episode of TSB, Caesar and Geeno are in-studio. Caesar addresses an issue concerning a YouTube review of the recent "Brotherhood" Air Jordan Retro 1s done by Nightwing 2303. Jordan 1 Mids look dumb. But hey, do you. Another year and another lethargic attempt by Nike to deliver a quality BHM Collection. We pick our favorite sneakers from this year's Doernbecher Collection. Nike's aggressive DTC strategy is hurting retailers like Foot Locker who's stock recently fell 35%, allegedly losing the company $900 million in value. Can you watch a movie like "Scarface" so much that you begin to notice small things and it becomes a comedy? A reseller in Singapore was fined $20k for bribing a Foot Locker employee for inside information on sneaker releases. Caesar tells a story about the last time he ate an edible a few weeks ago. Reebok partners with Foot Locker to sell their signature models, like Iverson and Shaq sneakers, exclusively. Fanatics recently acquired Mitchell & Ness. Let's hope they get back to focusing on authenticity, quality, and research. And finally, the Lakers are a hot mess.

TSB Podcast: EP.313 - Why are big brands scared to think outside the box?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar and Dunks are in-studio. Is it just us, or do things seem slow in sneaker right now? It doesn't feel like we've received that many colorways of the Air Jordan XXX6. Why? Caesar thinks NFTs are dumb. Dunks tries his best to convince him otherwise. Why are big brands scared to think outside the box? So Nike is suing StockX for selling NFTs of their trademark sneakers. But some legal experts feel like StockX might have a case to win. Does it feel like the hype and momentum behind Adidas' signing of Jerry Lorenzo has wavered? Can he still bring life to Adidas Basketball? Most sneaker releases feel basic. Are we giving paid designers and collaborators too much credit and leeway? Caesar explains why he has to be negative sometimes. Is Jordan Brand running out of ideas for their Air Jordan 11 holiday releases? Reebok to layoff 150 employees. However, they say that they will give their creative teams more freedom to be creative. In This Week In Stupid, a Foot Locker manager in Brampton, Canada posted a video of himself jacking off into sneakers they had in stock. Once Foot Locker found out they told him to beat it. Under Armour is closing their store in downtown Detroit. We're actually surprised it lasted as long as it did. And lastly, a woman in at a Memphis DHL warehouse was arrested after she was caught stealing $60,000 worth of Nike products.

TSB Podcast: EP.312 - What the hell is wrong with the Lakers?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and Guru are in-studio. Should Sneaker Con visit warm cities during the winter and leave the Midwest events for the spring/summer when it's warmer? Guru tries to break into Caesar's house. Caesar hates the name "Red Thunder". Even more so, that release of the Air Jordan 4 had to have some of the worst quality we've seen in a shoe in a minute. Some recent sneaker releases, that we just KNEW would be an instant hit, are sitting and reselling for a lot lower than expected. There's a lot of sneaker snobs in the sneaker community. Sneaker gentrification is a real thing. Nike is being sued by contractors who worked on their HQ expansion for unpaid invoices ranging in the millions. If you were a Nike employee who was a part of the massive layoffs back in 2020, and you saw people voluntarily quit after the fact, how would feel? Both VANS and Nike are issuing vaccine mandates for employees that work at their HQs. Why all the Jay-Z hate all of a sudden? Who could actually take him in a Verzuz? What the hell is wrong with the Lakers? And finally, is Draymond Green the best defender EVER?! We say Dennis Rodman.

TSB EP: 311 - Foot Locker tries to combat the problem of bots
In Episode 311 of TSB, Caesar and Guru are in-studio. We look back at what was the "Cool Grey" Air Jordan 11 release. Somehow Caesar was surprised by the hype. Is it fair to compare a sneakers release numbers and impact when the production numbers are manufactured nowadays to inflate hype? Foot Locker launched their new reservation system to combat the problem of bots. Who rocked their Js better? Will Smith on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" or Kadeem Hardison on "A Different World"? Is Enes Kanter Freedom's 15 minutes of fame up already? The IRS is coming after sneaker resellers. Kind of. Any money made from sneakers, that exceeds $600, has to now be reported by the platform you sold it on to the federal government. Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown is looking for "the brand of the future" in which to sign a shoe deal with. Can the basketball category in sneakers ever recover to the level it once was in the 90s and early 2000s? Why did New Balance give Rich Paul a sneaker to collab on? VANS is suing Wal-Mart for making copycat versions of their cheaper sneakers. And finally, we discuss the fallout over the now canceled Travis Scott collabs.

TSB Podcast: EP. 310 - We say goodbye to Virgil Abloh
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are in-studio. We begin the show addressing the heartbreaking and sudden news of Virgil Abloh's untimely death. Caesar tries to put things in perspective seeing that he had been recently critical of his work. Similar to the situation surrounding Kobe Bryant, resellers are wasting no time trying to capitalize off of the moment. Off-White X Air Jordan collaborations nearly doubled in resell value in platforms like StockX and GOAT. Which begs the question, should there be some form of policing within the sneaker community concerning profiteering off of someone's death? Nike sent out an email recently to some of their retail partners essentially telling them that they wouldn't be getting their inventory for this holiday season all the way through the summer of next year. We discuss how much of that was supply chain issues and how much DTC is playing a role in how brands like Nike are going to move forward. If the first few rappers on a song have trash verses, are you waiting around to hear who goes last? Some of the decision making made in the sneaker industry will leave you pulling your hair out. Does a sneaker still sitting in stores really make you not want it even if you were initially interested? Did Caesar really go sneaker shopping while he was on a charity walk? Why is the basketball category in sneakers struggling? Nike is looking to end their relationship with Israeli retailers. Sneakers make billions of dollars every year but Black retailers see very little of that. The IRS is coming after resellers. Does Enes Kanter Freedom have a point when it comes to sneaker brands like Nike and Jordan Brand? Or does his delivery come off as disingenuous? And finally, which song was a better diss? Takeover or Ether?

TSB Podcast: EP.309 - Are there any real, authentic voices in sneaker media?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are recording out of their new studio home... Caesar's house? We immediately address the elephant in the room, "why aren't we still at Woodward Sports?" Caesar explains. Sort of. Caesar also addresses the back and forth he had with Virgil Abloh over the recently released Off-White X Air Jordan 2 Lows, which includes his "apology" letter. Are there any real, authentic voices in sneaker media? Who, and what, are gatekeepers? And are they necessary? The WNBA has made some strides last season, but is it enough? Do brands know that they can cater to both "sneakerheads" and hypebeasts? It doesn't have to be either or. When did it begin to matter if a sneaker sat in a store or not? Nike FINALLY admitted that sneaker culture has become gentrified. How did we get here? The issue of race and sneakers. Could the signature athletes at each brand do more to hold the sneaker industry accountable? This has nothing to do with sneakers, BUT, can someone please tell Will and Jada Smith to stop telling us their personal information. And finally, also having nothing to do with sneakers, Scottie Pippen trippin'.

TSB Podcast: EP.308 - Who sets the resell price? The buyer or the seller?
In this of TSB, Caesar and Guru are in-studio at the Woodward Sports Network. There's a thin line between "inspired by" and "blatant rip-off". A Yeezy ALMOST made it onto the Fab 5 list. Surprise, surprise. Speaking of the Fab 5 list, Guru has a problem with it. The sneaker community needs to discern between NEEDING a sneaker and WANTING a sneaker. Who sets the resell price? The buyer or the seller? Is Caesar as generous as he thinks he is? We go over upcoming sneaker releases for the holiday season. Nike gives their employees a week off for mental health. But we wonder if that extended down to the people in the factories. The Jamaicans were not pleased with Nike's unwavering support of Scha'Carri Richardson despite their success and the lack of hers on the race track. April Walker, founder of Walker Wear, is suing Off-White's Virgil Abloh for stealing her "WW" design. And lastly, Caesar and Guru debate the validity of the online conversation comparing the impact of the Air Jordan 1 and the Yeezy 350.

TSB Podcast: EP.306 - Best collab this year?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and Guru in-studio at the Woodward Sports Network. Is Kanye overrated musically? Is Caesar running from his mantle as "influencer"? Caesar and Geeno describe the types of girls that Dunks likes to date. Caesar didn't know that Black people get gallstones. Did the Aleali May X Air Jordan 14 Low had one of the best roll-outs for a collaboration this year. Are brands starting to dilute the significance of sneaker collabs by collaborating with just anyone with a name? We REALLY need to go on a road trip. Seems like every time we went out of town we came back home with a story to tell. Nike is renaming the Alberto Salazar building at their corporate HQ. This comes after allegations from female athletes of abuse, after their own employees protested at their headquarters, and after Alberto received a lifetime ban from long distance running. This whole controversy was COMPLETELY avoidable. There's what brands do behind the scenes and then there's PR. People tend to lose sight of the former because of the latter. And finally, we interview comedians Rob Haze and Jamel Johnson, hosts of BR Kicks' new comedic skit show "Sneak This".

Remember when Nike apparel was just as dope as the shoes? Is Travis Scott really the most influential person in sneakers? Or are sneakerheads just more gullible nowadays? "Sneaker Shopping" is just rich people buying sneakers that they know little about. So what's the appeal? Do Air Jordan 1s need to go away for a while? If you had a million dollars would your personal sneaker salary cap change? We discuss the Malice at the Palace documentary. We talk to the couple who's story went viral when the husband sold his sneaker collection to pay for his wife's fertility treatment. Adidas finally sells off Reebok. First show in a LONG time that didn't have a Fab 5. Shout out to skate shops. They do another Sneaker Review Review, where they react to some of the worst sneaker reviews on Youtube. Foot Locker buys WSS and Atmos for a little over $1 billion. This move comes after they decided to shutdown Footaction earlier this year. StockX allegedly lost a pair of $9k Nike Yeezy 2s. TSB Podcast: Episode 303 - Besides Jordans, Who Has the Best Signature Line?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, and Dunks are in-studio at the Woodward Sports Network. We begin the show reminiscing about our trip to Sneaker Con New York in 2016. We want I both shout out and apologize to The Sneaker Girl. We knock out our Fab 5 Sneakers of the Week, plus the Ugliest Release of the Week. Are people swayed by brand names more than they want to admit? Besides Jordans, who has the best signature line? What makes a great sneaker? Somehow this leads to a debate on the show.
