S2, E3: Talking preferences and discernment with Isaac Adams
This season is focusing on the tension of race in our lives. I asked Isaac Adams to join me in this conversation for a lot of reasons. He’s my pastor at Iron City Church here in Birmingham and I massively respect him. Isaac is also the author of “Talking About Race: Gospel Hope for Hard Conversations” and is the founder of United? We Pray, a ministry devoted to praying about racial strife. For more information about United? We Pray, visit . This season is all about spiritual skills with Jim and Jan Sharp, and today we’re talking about the armor of God. I feel like our initial reaction could be a flashback to VBS if you grew up near a Baptist church like I did, or there’s some song that pops into your head about it. But while you’re singing the little diddy, stay with me. The armor of God is powerful and purposeful, and this conversation was really helpful. Let’s dive in. It’s really important as we listen to this to remember that the practice of controlling our thoughts is a daily effort that we’re not always going to do well at, and if you’re someone who has experienced trauma, then your brain has been wired differently from your experiences. We’re going to be doing something a little differently on Amplify from here on out — we’re going seasonal! I’m really excited about this shift because it means we can take a little extra time to plan and create high quality shows for you guys. Our first season will be with Jim and Jan Sharp about developing some specific skills for spiritual maturity, which is something I think we can all benefit from. Before we dive into the skills, though, I wanted to give those who haven’t heard their story a little background. So here’s that episode where we first chatted, and we’ll be back next week with the spiritual skills. Amplify is a product of TAB Media Group, hosted by Maggie Evans and produced by Hannah Muñoz. Hearing Christlike responses from Romanians amid crisis
Today’s podcast will be a little different than our typical show. This will be more of a listen and respond kind of interaction, but it’s one that I think we all desperately need to hear. It’s from the perspective of Daniel Fodorean, who is intensely involved in the Romanian effort to help the Ukranian refugees who are flooding into Romania. TAB Media Group’s president and editor in chief Jennifer Rash sat down with Daniel in late March when he was in Alabama for another meeting. Daniel is the academic dean at the Baptist Theological Institute of Bucharest, and he’s also on the Romanian-American Mission board of directors. His perspective is vital for us as American Christians to hear, and I’m so thankful that Jennifer had the foresight to record their conversation for us. Let’s dive in. Prayer for the New Year
Hi friends! So we had big plans and great guests lined up to really kick off the new year, but omicron had other ideas so, even though we took a break last week, this week is pretty similar! But I did want to share something with you all, in case anyone is in the same spot as I am, in already feeling weary by the new year (and, to be honest, the past couple of years). I wanted to share a prayer from the The Valley of Vision devotional that encouraged me. The Valley of Vision is a book of puritan prayers, written in old English, and every time I read one, I feel the Spirit move through the words on the page. This specific prayer I'm reading is called "Love Rest in God." Amplify is a product of TAB Media Group, hosted by Maggie Evans and produced by Hannah Muñoz.
