76: How to Push Through Overwhelm & Take Big Action
Welcome back to another episode of The AMPLIFY Show. Today I’m talking about a strategy that I've used consistently in my life and my business whenever I wanted to push through inaction, overwhelm, or decision fatigue, to make big things happen. It’s the concept of positive, manufactured pressure. I recently manufactured pressure simply by spending 30 minutes making a video pitch for a business competition. If I’m selected, this will force me to move forward on a business idea I’ve been working on, to take action that I would otherwise put off or simply never do. Whether it’s accepting someone else’s money for a business idea, finding an accountability partner, or scheduling a personal trainer to help you stay on track for your health, find ways to rely on others to help push you forward. And tune into this episode as I share more ways to manufacture pressure or urgency to accomplish something big. I’d love to hear from you – what are you going to tackle and how will you implement the strategy of manufactured pressure? Shoot me a message over on Instagram @emilyrichett and I’ll help add to it and hold you accountable with some check-ins. 75: Cultural Worship, Modern Beliefs, & Finding Unshakeable Faith - Defending Life From a Christian Perspective
What does it mean to be a Christian and to stand up for your beliefs on hot-topic issues? How can you respectfully share with others, especially non-believers, in a way that will resonate? In this episode of The AMPLIFY Show, Emily takes a deep dive into what she has discovered since speaking out on the topic of abortion and the sanctity of life from a Christian perspective. She sheds light on why she chose to share her convictions publically, inviting criticism and judgment. She also shares her insights into what she has discovered to be at the core of the issue for many who are on different sides of this topic. Using faith and reason, she shares a new perspective for Christians who want to defend their faith when it’s unpopular, while also presenting a new angle for those who want to understand the Christian view. In this episode Emily shares: The idea that people are made for worship. If they aren’t worshipping God, they will worship worldly beliefs, customs, government policies, popular opinion and other people. The impact this has over time when increasingly more people base their moral foundation not in an everlasting truth, but in ever-changing beliefs and cultural norms. What inspired her to speak publicly about her faith and belief on a controversial issue, despite criticism and judgment. Why so many people seem stuck in a state of “lukewarm” belief and how to move from this safe middle ground to a place of unshakeable faith. 74: Survival, Love & Forgiveness with Melissa Ohden
In today’s powerful episode, I’m talking with Melissa Ohden. I recorded this interview seven months ago but was waiting for the right time to share it- and a more honest answer would be that I hesitated to share this because I knew the interview may make some people uncomfortable. While the topic of the interview may seem political or controversial, Melissa’s story really is for everyone. It’s the story that often gets overlooked in the whole life and choice debates. It’s one that I didn’t even realize existed until I heard her share it 7-8 years ago at a fundraiser for a pregnancy center in Grand Rapids. Melissa Ohden is the author of “You Carried Me: A Daughter’s Memoir." The book tells her story from the time she learns she was the survivor of a botched abortion– all the way to finding her biological parents and her journey through anger and shame to eventual forgiveness and empowerment. Ultimately, Melissa’s story is one of survival and love. Melissa is a master’s level social worker and the founder of a nonprofit that helps other survivors like her. I know her story has the power to change hearts and to change minds- but that isn’t why I’m sharing it. I share it because so few others will, especially in the secular media. I share it because Melissa is a beautiful woman who has overcome incredible hardship- she survived a terrible injustice and she now gives a voice to thousands like her who are shunned and ignored by our society and lawmakers. In any other scenario, Melissa would be a woman our culture, and especially other women, cheer for. But that is not the world Melissa – or the rest of us – lives in. As she so powerfully shared with Congress many times and with us on the show, she is “a woman who has the right to get her own abortion and yet… she didn’t have the right to be born in the first place...” But as you’ll hear, because of a medical mistake, the courage of some incredible nurses, and the grace of God (there’s no denying divine intervention here!), Melissa was born. I’m honored to share her story with you today. If today’s episode resonates with you, be sure to tag, comment, or message the and let us know what you think! 73: Quit Trading Time for Money: Creating a Business that Works For Your Life
In today’s Biz Pep Talk, I’m talking about the trap many mom entrepreneurs find themselves in and how to break free from it: trading time for money. I share how I transitioned my business from one that required a lot of my physical time and also drained my energy, leaving me without as much to give to my family, to one that gives me a lot of freedom and the ability to scale up or down depending on my season, desire, or needs. In this episode I cover: The traditional “time for money” business model that leverages growing a team to get more time and why this doesn’t always work for many of us - especially moms who want to pour into their homes & families more than an office/large teams. The mindset shift of viewing money as potentially limitless vs. time, which is completely finite How to make more impact and income by sharing your knowledge or expertise in an online course Simple questions to ask to figure out what kind of course you could create and sell to others The positive ways this business model has impacted my company and my life and how you can get started doing it for yourself The exact method I use to create a course that doesn’t require a ton of time or money before getting your first paid customers (can be found at ) If this episode resonates with you, let me know over on Instagram @theamplifyshow! We also chat about emotional resiliency - how to manage our own emotions and model that for our kids - which he dives deep into in his upcoming book Emotionally Resilient Tweens and Teens. And he shares a really troubling condition that more and more kids are experiencing, which is a complete detachment from parents, and the really scary damage that can happen to the parent-child relationship when the parent is too attached to their phone. 66: The Replacement Of The Heart Through Technology With Marc Barnes
After switching to a Light Phone II to help , I started searching online (the irony, I know!) for a camera solution, since the Light Phone does not have one. That’s when I came upon that powerfully explains a theory of replacing the heart - our ability to connect, to relate, and to feel, with technology, our devices, and yes, even our camera phones. The article was written by philosopher Marc Barnes (Ph.D. in Theology from St. Mary’s University). I eventually tracked him down after following a trail of thought-provoking articles around the Internet. That brings us to today’s interview- one of my favorites! We go deep into topics like using technology and photos to avoid the reality of death or grief, and we consider the habits and cultural norms that are replacing our ability to connect and feel with the heart. 65: Take Back Your Time With Christy Wright
Today’s episode is one of my favorite topics: how to take back your time. That’s the topic of Christy Wright’s latest book, Take Back Your Time: The Guilt-Free Guide to Life Balance. In this interview, Christy talks about her definition of balance, five tactical steps to achieve life balance, and how she was handling some hard changes and decisions she was working through at the time. Just this week, Christy announced one of these big changes: after 12 years at Ramsey Solutions, as a Ramsey personality, she is going to be leaving the company. I’m wishing her so much joy and time to slow down and to follow that path she is called to, and I'm grateful she took the time to share with us here, especially for us moms that have to continuously juggle life at home, at work, and in our communities. Christy’s take on time and balance is not what you’d expect - it’s probably not what you’ve read in other best-selling books or heard from influencers on Instagram. It’s not necessarily popular advice; it’s just real. And while it may not be easy, it’s actionable. If this episode resonates, we’d love to hear your thoughts over on Instagram @TheAMPLIFYShow! 59: 10 Reasons to Quit Social Media
I’m inviting you to join me for a slower, more peace-filled season with a social media sabbatical- as in, quitting social media for the next month or so. I logged off my platforms on November 8 and plan to take a two-month digital rest. I started the year off with a social media sabbatical but still batched my posts once a week. This time, I’m going unplugged- I even removed email from my phone. Tune in to hear the biggest reasons why and what I hope to gain from the break. I mention a lot of previous episodes and interviews on this topic, which I’ll link below. 56: Biz & Life Pep Talk: It Wasn't Meant To Be Easy!

56: Biz & Life Pep Talk: It Wasn't Meant To Be Easy!
Hi friends! Today I was inspired to quickly record another Biz Pep Talk episode, but this one is really a biz/life pep talk. I had a coffee meeting with a client who recently launched a sustainable clothing line and she was telling me about all of the challenges she’s facing with manufacturing issues and product delays. Then, I heard from an author friend who sent me a message. And THEN, a media colleague. Three separate women but a common theme: overcoming hardship, self doubt, and not giving enough credit to where it’s due (hint: ourselves!). I keep finding scenarios in my own life that remind me- maybe this wasn’t supposed to be easy. And maybe I’m made for this! It reminds me of a verse I read recently in Esther 4:14 (the popular one you’ll see in beautiful script on posters and mugs): "….perhaps you were born for times such as this." So, I pulled out my Bible again (two of them, actually, because I’m intrigued by the different translations out there) to re-read it and to see how it may apply to our everyday lives. I hope this episode will give you a new perspective on what it means to embrace hardship & uncertainty. If it does, let me know over on Instagram @emilyrichett!
