Making Time For What Matters

Making Time For What Matters
During this time of all of our schedules simultaneously being cleared over night, something I have been learning, is that busyness really doesn’t have as much to do with our schedules as it does with us. Busyness really is more of an attitude. The story in the Bible found in Luke 10:38-42, of Mary and Martha is a perfect example of this, and how we can't allow our busyness to cause us to miss out on the moments placed right in front of us. Reflecting On Our Thoughts
Our thoughts reflect what we believe. Sometimes we have thoughts of doubt, thoughts of 'I'm not good enough' and so on. The thing is, we should be combating those thoughts with God's truths. We should be declaring Gods word and what God says about us over our lives. We should choose to declare God's truth vs. believe the lies we often tell ourselves. Jesus and College
In this episode Hope is joined by her sister Xylia and they are talking about how important it is to keep Jesus at the center of our lives, whether you’re in college or focusing on your career. Xylia has her bachelors degree in biology and is in the process of applying to go to medical school. College is a defining time in our lives and that’s the time when we find out who we are and who Jesus is to us. A lot of times we can get so wrapped up in pursuing our calling that we don’t make time to pursue the one who has called us, Jesus. We will look at a couple practical things we can do to help us keep Jesus at the center! If you’re in college, about to go into college, or just coming out of college this episode is specifically for you! Owning It

Owning It
Have you ever had a job or been in a season of life that isn’t the most glamorous or exciting, where you are faced with obstacles that you just want to run away from? I know I have. I’ve been re-reading through the story of David and Goliath, which is a story I thought I knew pretty well but as I was studying it more, some things really stuck out to me about David. In 1 Samuel 17:34-35, this is the part of the story where David is answering King Saul’s question to him on why he is able to fight Goliath. David’s response to this question is that while watching his fathers sheep he was faced with a lion and a bear that tried to take his sheep, and how he overcame them. I love how the Bible paints this picture of how David had a job of watching his fathers sheep, which was probably not the most glamorous job in the world, and yet he owned that job. He did his job well and with excellence. So much so that when he was faced with obstacles, a lion and a bear, he faced them and over came them. He didn’t run from his obstacles. Obviously I’m not telling us to face any wild animals in our life! I feel this is so awesome to think about what we can learn from this example, instead of running from the obstacles in our life we face them and overcome them. Maybe it’s a co-worker at work who we could extend grace too, it’s learning how to be a better steward of our finances, maybe it’s learning to be more patient towards others. Maybe the job we have right now or the season of life we are in is not the most glamorous but realize how important it is to give it our best and be good stewards of where we are and to live a life of excellence just like David did. God used that job that David had of watching his fathers sheep as preparation for what God had for him in the future, God used those obstacles that David faced to prepare David to become the person he had called him to be. David probably couldn’t see where his job of watching those sheep was leading him too, which was too defeat Goliath, but he was still faithful in that job and he still gave it his all, and God ended up using him in a big way! I believe this should encourage us to give those jobs/times in our life that don’t seem significant at the time our best and live them out in excellence because we can’t always see where they might lead too but God does. Let’s strive to give everyday our best and own it! Follow us on instagram @theboldpursuit Funk City by Reatch Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 Music promoted by Audio Library

Identity
06/18/2019
Identity
In this episode Hope is joined with her friend Lorianne as they have a conversation about comparison. We live in a time where we are constantly faced with comparisons. As we scroll through instagram and facebook it's easy to compare ourselves to what we see. It's easy to feel as though we need to look a certain way or try to act a certain way to be liked by others. A lot of times we let the people around us be the loudest voice in our life. The truth is, Jesus should be the loudest voice in our life. Our value and worth is found in Christ, not in people's approval of us. Some of the things we say about ourselves, we would never say to a friend. We say things like 'I can't do this or that', and the truth is, we wouldn't say that to our friend so why do we say it about ourselves? We look at 3 simple steps we can begin taking today, to live out who God says we are. 1. Start listening to who God says we are, not who other people say we are. The more we begin to love God the more we begin to love ourselves and who He has created us to be. How we do that is by reading our Bible and praying. 2. Create the narrative. When you begin to have a negative thought, about your self, flip it around and instead of saying "I'm not good enough", you say "I am good enough because I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God." Psalm 139:14 3. Rally around your friends and hold one another accountable. Lift one another up! Life In Community
05/09/2019
Life In Community
God wants us to be in community with others. Part of that is being able to be real and share our lives with one another. Sometimes being vulnerable with our lives can be scary. We take a risk when we open up to people but the reward is so much greater than the risk. Oftentimes we don’t want to open our lives up to people because we feel if they see that our life isn’t perfect they will judge us. It’s just like when we spontaneously invite someone over to our home and think, “is this person going to judge me because my home isn’t tidy or clean?” ( I share a story on this in this episode ) Here’s the thing, people don’t care that our lives or homes aren’t perfect, they care if we let them in or not. They care when we invite them in and choose to share our life with them. Life is meant to be lived together in community. All The Things
04/03/2019
All The Things
In this episode, Hope and her husband Peter talk about how we all want the full schedules, we live at such a fast pace, we want all the things. Yet so often we over schedule our days and become so caught up with what we are doing that we don't take the time to reflect on our days and really evaluate and ask ourselves 'Am I being productive?' In Genesis 1:4 when God created the light in the first day, it says 'And God saw the light, that it was good'. He repeats that phrase throughout that chapter after He creates the different days. Its such a small phrase that I think we can easily over look, but if we really take the time to think about it, I believe that that's God taking the time to reflect on his day. It says that 'God saw, that it was good', He took the time to see what He created. He's taking the time to reflect on what He created. That little phrase show's us the importance on taking the time in our day to reflect and really look at our day and ask ourselves, 'Was I productive today'? 'Was I effective today'? Part of growth comes from taking time to reflect, taking time to really evaluate what we are doing and why. If we slow down a bit from trying to accomplish all the things, we will be able to make time in our day for reflection which will in turn lead to more productive and effective days. No More Holding Back

No More Holding Back
I was recently having a conversation with a friend, and we were talking about how so often we talk ourselves out of pursuing the things that we feel passionate about. This conversation inspired this episode because I believe this is something that we all struggle with or have struggled with in our lives. So often we are so quick to disqualify ourselves before we even begin something. Maybe we don't feel good enough, smart enough, strong enough, whatever it may be and we use that as our excuse to hold us back and keep us from pursuing the things that we are passionate about. In the Bible we learn of the story of Moses, that is found in the book of Exodus, and we learn about how Moses didn't feel qualified, he felt inadequate and God still used him. I believe that story is a story of hope for us. God sees past all of our insecurities and weakness's and see's who He created us to be. And just like with Moses, He wants to use us in spite of our weakness. I believe we need to start using our weakness's and insecurities as a story of hope for others. We need to use it as if to say "If God can use me, He can use you". "If God can use me, in my shortcomings, He can use you." Let's surround ourselves with our community of friends and people in our life to lift one another up and encourage one another. The Struggle is Real

The Struggle is Real
We all go through difficult seasons in life where sometimes we just want to grab a big box of cookies and go hide somewhere and call it a day, am I right?! The struggle is real. You know what the crazy thing is though, is that God wants us to actually thrive in these seasons and not just survive. Having a vision for our life is one of the keys to learning how to thrive during these times. What would our life look like if we chose to thrive more than we chose to just survive, how many people would we be able to help and speak life into and be an encouragement to, if we chose thriving over surviving? A great resource, that we talk about, for figuring out what a vision for our life looks like, the book - Visioneering by Andy Stanley!
