Did Marvel Finally Get The Fantastic Four Right? | The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review
Now that The Fantastic Four: First Steps has landed on Disney Plus, the Cinema Psychos investigate if Marvel has finally cracked the code on their first family. Why has it been so difficult to successfully adapt Marvel's first family for the big screen, and does this new MCU installment—with its swinging 60s vibe, comic-accurate Galactus, and fresh cast including Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby—finally deliver a fantastic film? We break down the stylish alternate universe, the new takes on Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, and how this movie compares to previous failed attempts and the plot of Ghostbusters II. A History of Failure: We explore the rocky cinematic past of the Fantastic Four, from the unreleased Roger Corman version to the 2000s films and the infamous 2015 reboot. Stylistic Choices & Missed Depth: Analyzing the film's unique 1960s aesthetic and how its commitment to style may have come at the cost of deeper character development, especially for The Thing. Final Verdict & MCU Future: Discussing the comic-accurate Galactus and Silver Surfer, the film's place in the larger Marvel universe, and whether this is a sign of an MCU comeback or a temporary blip. What did you think of Fantastic Four: First Steps? Did you also spot the Ghostbusters II plot connection? Street Fighter (1994) is The Best Worst Video Game Movie Ever Made!
Was 1994's Street Fighter movie a glorious masterpiece or a total disaster? The answer is YES. In this episode, we defend our claim that it's the ultimate "so bad it's good" video game movie adaptation ever made. We're breaking down why this cinematic chaos works, focusing on the legendary, scene-chewing performance from Raul Julia as M. Bison, who famously took the role for his kids and elevated the entire film into a cult classic. We also dive into the infamous behind-the-scenes drama, including Jean-Claude Van Damme's reported $10,000-a-week cocaine habit that brought production to a halt. It's a fun, nostalgic trip back to a time when video game movies were wonderfully weird. Love it or hate it, you can't ignore the madness of Street Fighter! Stay Tuned (1992) Is a '90's TIME CAPSULE! | Movie Review
This week, we’re diving into Stay Tuned (1992), the bizarre cult comedy that’s basically a 90s time capsule. From TV parodies like Wayne’s World and Diff’rent Strokes to giant satellite dishes and clunky graphics, this movie captures an era before smart phones and streaming when a 45 inch tv was considered "Big" and worthy of selling your soul to the devil. Joining us is special guest Kt Baldassaro (MovieRunTime on TikTok, What If I Don’t Like It? podcast) as we discuss why Stay Tuned’s rapid-fire skits, dark humor, and PG edginess couldn’t be made today—and why it remains a fascinating cultural artifact of pre-internet TV obsession. Final Destination Bloodlines: Brilliantly Dumb or Just Dead Inside?
In this episode of The Cinema Psychos Show, we’re joined by Pittsburgh filmmakers Aero Rae and Jake Hecht to unpack the chaos that is Final Destination: Bloodlines. From MRI-induced body horror to Tony Todd’s emotional farewell, we dissect how this sixth entry turns death into a Rube Goldberg cartoon — and why we might secretly love it. We dive into the franchise’s tone shift, the absurd kill setups (yes, the lawnmower and the exploding piercings), and whether this over-the-top sequel actually earns its place as one of the highest-grossing Final Destination films ever. Is Bloodlines a smart-dumb horror gem or just entertaining slop? Let’s get into it. NEWSLETTER and UNCUT REELS!!!!! Why Heretic (2024) Might Be A24’s Most Divisive Film | Movie Review
What makes Heretic (2024) one of A24’s most divisive horror films to date? In this movie review, we dive into a slow-burn thriller where Hugh Grant channels cold charisma as a philosophical villain challenging everything you believe — literally. Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place), the film traps two young Mormon missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) in a psychological mind game that unpacks faith, control, and the seductive power of certainty. Buckle up — this one’s going to stir up some serious spiritual discomfort. NEWSLETTER and UNCUT REELS!!!!! The Village (2004): Does M. Night Shyamalan HATE His Audience?
The twist wasn’t the only betrayal… In this episode of the Cinema Psycho Show, we dig into The Village (2004), the film that marks the moment M. Night Shyamalan may have officially turned on his audience. With a nonsensical twist, stilted dialogue, and characters that act like NPCs in a period drama fever dream, The Village feels less like a film and more like M. Night yelling “You expected brilliance? Here’s a blind girl in the woods.” We dive into: Whether this movie is a deliberate act of sabotage Shyamalan’s possible contempt for his own fans Alleged plagiarism and the Are You Afraid of the Dark connection What post-9/11 fear has to do with the plot And why this film is so un-rewatchable it might qualify as cinematic gaslighting This isn’t just a review — it’s a roast with receipts. Misery (1990): Stephen King's Chilling Warning About Toxic Fandom
What happens when a devoted fan becomes your worst nightmare? Misery (1990) isn’t just a psychological thriller — it’s a terrifyingly accurate portrait of toxic fandom, long before the age of Twitter, TikTok, and Reddit backlash. In this episode of the Cinema Psychos Show, we dive deep into Rob Reiner’s chilling adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, breaking down why Annie Wilkes might be the most disturbingly realistic villain in horror movie history. We explore the real-life inspiration behind Misery, including King’s own battle with addiction and fame, and how the film eerily predicted modern fan entitlement. From Kathy Bates’ Oscar-winning performance to James Caan’s quiet brilliance, this movie packs emotional trauma, sharp social commentary, and one of the most infamous horror scenes of all time — the hobbling. We also unpack how Misery fits into the legacy of Stephen King adaptations, why horror grounded in reality hits harder than supernatural scares, and what this film has to say about celebrity culture in 2024. Pet Sematary (1989) Stephen King’s Most Gut Wrenching Story
Sometimes....Dead is Better This week, we are joined by returning guest, Anastasia Elfman to dig up the horror of Pet Sematary (1989), the unsettling Stephen King adaptation directed by Mary Lambert and starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Fred Gwynne, and a murderous toddler you’ll never forget. They unpack what makes this film so brutally effective—especially for parents—while roasting Louis Creed for being the world’s worst doctor, husband, and homeowner. From zombie cats to Wendigo lore and that unforgettable Zelda nightmare fuel, we’re diving deep into grief, guilt, and gore. Plus, a few rants about embalming logistics, 80s parenting fails, and the movie's weirdly psychic side characters. Maximum Overdrive (1986) is Why Stephen King will NEVER Direct another Movie!

Maximum Overdrive (1986) is Why Stephen King will NEVER Direct another Movie!
The master of horror himself, Stephen King, steps behind the camera in 1986’s “Maximum Overdrive.” A movie where the only thing that is frightening is the behind the scenes terror caused by an unhinged writer/director amidst one of their worst bouts of substance abuse. Master of Horror he may be, but King’s tale of sentient electronics and trucks (but not cars) is one of the most boring entries into his catalog of terror. But what is it that makes this movie so terrible? Join us with special guest, Dustin Goes to Hollywood from The Silver Linings Playlist Podcast as we rev up our engines to tackle Maximum Overdrive!
