Mothering as Art with Dr. Lyneia Richardson SHOW NOTES Dr. Lyneia Richardson’s Bio Dr. Lyneia Richardson is a mother, psychologist, educator, and the editor of Mothering as a Work of Art: A Black Mama Anthology. Her work centers on Black maternal mental health, exploring how race, culture, and identity shape the experience of motherhood. Through therapy, research, and storytelling, she reframes mothering as a powerful, creative, and culturally rooted practice. Dr. Richardson supports high-achieving mothers navigating identity shifts, perinatal transitions, and the invisible labor of care. Amazon link: Lyneia Richardson, PhD Assistant Professor of Counseling Despite my academic and professional achievements, one of my greatest accomplishments is being the mama of two of the most beautiful little beings. Following the birth of my first-born child, I was able to find my passion in working almost exclusively with the perinatal population. My clinical and research interests have centered around the issues of women from the African diaspora in the context of race and culture, highlighting the intersectionality of race and gender. While my research has always focused on the mental health needs of women, becoming a mother allowed me to see a more unique experience of womanhood that calls for an even more specialized approach. My clinical approach acknowledges that mothering is not an individual experience but one of community, and I strive to create that village-community experience for my clients. As a psychologist and educator, I take a similar approach to teaching by recognizing the inherit community in the educational experience. Following the African philosophy of Ubuntu, "I am because we are," I strive to create an experience of community and connectedness in the online learning community environment with my students. Speaking Your Brand with Carol Cox Today’s guest is from sunny Orlando, Florida. A fellow podcaster, she’s a true expert in public speaking and business storytelling that I really connected with. Carol’s also passionate about seeing more women in leadership and sees her mission to help more women secure positions of influence and leadership on stages, in boardrooms, in the media, in communities and in politics. A student of culture and history, Carol has had a storied career in television as a political analyst as well as a college professor and software developer. I loved hearing her Brave Girl story which included working in the technology sector and how she now teaches others how to create their signature talk to gain visibility for their brands. Carol and I talk about the power of storytelling and how she teaches her clients best practices in public speaking. Carol also explains the process to create a TedX talk and what she recommends if you are considering creating one. Carol has created a framework to create your signature talk that has resulted in client success on the stage. She talks about how to embed and integrate information into your talk to generate leads.
