Podmissum is the podcast series of Trinity School in New York City, a diverse community of learning creating engaged and inspired citizens since 1709. Trinity is a k-12, independent, coeducational school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. These podcasts highlight innovative education programs, explore k-12 education initiatives, and share the presentations of compelling speakers from within and from outside the Trinity community through interviews, guest speakers, documentaries, performances, athletic competitions, and other events at the School. John Werner class of 1988 John Werner has created a career out of bringing ideas, networks and people together to generate powerful results. Currently, John serves as Managing Director and Partner at Link Ventures, and as Chief Network Officer, SVP Corporate Development of Cogo Labs. Before joining Link Ventures and Cogo Labs, John's deep curiosity and penchant for problem-solving led him to a diverse set of roles spanning many fields and interests. Previously, John was a VP at Meta, a Y-Combinator augmented reality startup based in Silicon Valley. John's also served as the Head of Innovation and New Ventures at the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture Group, and the Managing Director of Emerging Worlds SIG, where he led the launch of collaborative innovation centers in Mumbai, Nashik, and Hyderabad. John channels his passion and curiosity into cultivating platforms for thought and exchange. He is the Founder & CEO of ARIA, a community focused on the potential of augmented reality and the Blockchain+AI+Human, which takes place at MIT and the World Economic Forum in Davos with MIT Professor Sandy Pentland. John is also a Director with TEDxMIT and founded Ideas in Action Inc., a non-profit that creates and produces TEDxBeaconStreet, whose talks have accumulated 250+ million YouTube views. John is also the co-Founder of Citizen Schools, an advisor for PhotoButler, Vestigo Ventures and Founders Forum (Boston), an MIT Connection Science Fellow, a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard University's Graduate School of Design and a graduate of Hamilton College. John was recognized by Harvard Business Review for his leadership; by BostonInno in 2014 as a top 50 on Fire in Boston; Boston Chamber with a TOYL (Ten Outstanding Young Leaders) Award in 2006. In his free time, John is a passionate photographer and an accomplished triathlete (qualified for the worlds and 4x nationals). John and his family live in Brookline, MA. David A. Lifson ’68 This episode of podmissum features David A. Lifson ’68. David A. Lifson ’68, is a partner with Crowe LLP based in New York City and a leader of the firm’s national Global Private Client Service tax and business consultancy practice, where he develops business strategies and personal financial plans utilizing both his and the firm’s broad range of accounting, audit, tax and business consulting backgrounds, both domestically and internationally. Lifson was co-managing partner of Hays & Co. LLP for nearly thirty years, until the firm joined Crowe in 2009. He has been an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for much of his career and is a recipient of the Arthur Dixon Award, the highest award given by the accounting profession in the area of taxation. He currently serves on their governing council, the tax reform task force, and as chair of the AICPA’s National Tax Conference. Lifson has served on the Internal Revenue Service’s Advisory Council, the senior private sector advisory body to the IRS, and chaired its Small Business/Self-Employed Subgroup through 2011. He is also a former president of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Lifson is an accomplished author, lecturer, speaker, panelist, and media commentator on various tax and business topics. He has been named one of Accounting Today’s “Top 100” people in the accounting profession, for several years. Lifson has testified before Congress and his expertise is frequently sought out by the media, including The Wall Street Journal and The CPA Journal, where he has also been featured representing the Certified Public Accountants profession. Lifson talked in his office about taxes, tax code, and the recently passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks - Religious Leader, Philosopher, Award-winning Author, and Respected Moral Voice This episode of podmissum features Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks. An international religious leader, philosopher, award-winning author, and respected moral voice, Rabbi Sacks was awarded the 2016 Templeton Prize in recognition of his “exceptional contributions to affirming life’s spiritual dimension.” Since stepping down as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth—a position he held between 1991 and 2013—he has held a number of professorships at several academic institutions including Yeshiva University and King’s College London. Rabbi Sacks currently serves as the Ingeborg and Ira Rennert Global Distinguished Professor of Judaic Thought at New York University. He has received seventeen honorary doctorates. Rabbi Sacks is the author of over thirty books. His most recent work, Not in God’s Name: Confronting Religious Violence was awarded a 2015 National Jewish Book Award. Past works include: The Great Partnership: God, Science and the Search for Meaning; The Home We Build Together; The Dignity of Difference: How to Avoid the Clash of Civilizations; To Heal a Fractured World: The Ethics of Responsibility; and A Letter in the Scroll: On Being Jewish, winner of a National Jewish Book Award in 2000. His "Covenant & Conversation" commentaries are read in Jewish communities around the world. As part of the Rudin Foundation Lecture series, Rabbi Sacks was invited to speak at Trinity on the evening of 15 March 2018 to discuss his book, The Home We Build Together and to share his thoughts on covenant and community.
