Fighting for the next generation + Finding your Calling with Sean Dunn, President of Groundwire
If they dont go to church, they are not interested in hearing more about Jesus. Today's guest Sean Dunn is on a mission to prove that statement wrong! He talks about the process it has been to get in front of Gen Z and Millenials, and how at times, he heard NOTHING from God on the matter. But how he kept his vision and faith through the process. Sean's Book: In this episode, you’ll discover… What is a key trait to winning at work and at home? (1:24) How reading the bible changed Sean. (2:30) How Sean holds himself accountable. (10:30) Hearing nothing from God. (23:30) Sean’s Bio: When Groundwire founder and President, Sean Dunn first heard a call toward ministry, he responded with a resounding “Yes.” A yes to be a part of God’s vision and mission for the youth of America. A heart for the lost and a deeply rooted faith in Jesus sustained him. While preaching and teaching the younger generations in churches, Sean felt another call from God, to go to the lost rather than waiting for the lost to come. Looking across his church community, he realized the lost were found outside of these walls and it was time for him to bring the gospel to them. So, where were they? The answer to that question quickly became clear, they are everywhere and yet connected through social media channels. That was it. That was the place where Sean could bring the gospel to the lost. And so, the strategy behind Groundwire was born. Creating compelling and well-produced video content, purchasing ad space on popular social media platforms, and interrupting the noise of today with the hope of Jesus. Groundwire brings a message of God’s loving kindness, his grace and compassion, to teens and young adults. Today, Groundwire operates multiple campaigns including JesusCares.com and WhenLifeHurts.com, as well as running campaigns in Spanish as AJesusleImporta.com and CuandolaVidaDuele.com. Each campaign invites viewers to chat with someone who cares through the 24/7 chat feature. Connecting people with coaches who are trained to listen, encourage, and ultimately point chatter to Jesus. Just like Sean said “yes” to God’s calling for his life, our hope is to lead the lost and broken to saying their own “yes” to a life with Jesus Christ. What's Next? NEW!! Join the new . Compassion + Empathy as you lead a company and mentor others, with Mike Payne, owner of Hill Manufacturing
Do you have empathy? It can be quick to just say “yes!” But do you really? When a direct report’s numbers are suddenly down, are you quick to say in your mind, “What the heck is going on here?!” Or do you think to yourself, ‘I hope they are okay.’ then follow up with the right questions? This is easier for some leaders than others, which is understandable. However, today’s guest Mike Payne explains why he can't afford to NOT be empathetic and communicative with his teams. In this episode, you’ll discover… What is a key trait to winning at work, and at home? (1:25) Talking about personal and professional life in 1:1 meetings (7:28) How knowing his employee’s temperament, helped him to be empathetic (12:40) Why Sabbaticals are so important. (16:35) Mike’s Bio: I am an entrepreneurial executive that has been blessed to find myself in my dream career. How did I get so lucky? Out of college I worked in the software space, focused most specifically on manufacturers, and went through a few rounds of investment and eventually an exit. This experience early on in my career prompted two passions; business funding/transactions and manufacturing. Over the last 20+ years I have had the humbling opportunity to assist in funding, starting, buying, managing and selling dozens of companies across multiple industries throughout Oklahoma and the region. Working mostly with closely held companies, I’ve been able to help dreams come true, overcome obstacles and make meaningful improvements in the professional and personal lives of entrepreneurs of all types. Always having an eye on an opportunity to pursue my passion for manufacturing, the timing was right to jump in feet first and with a few trusted partners acquired a very successful regional precision CNC and Fabrication shop. Our mission at Hill is to Deliver Quality Parts. On Time. Every Time. It’s a lofty but important goal that requires daily improvements in what we do and how we do it. Our clients expect it and when we execute it creates growth and opportunity for our employees and all stakeholders. Helping others is probably my biggest energizer, which has led me into podcasting over the past few years. I hope you will listen to MakingChips and Buy the Numbers and see if you learn anything from my guests or I. I won't ever claim to be an expert on anything, but I have been fortunate to see and do a lot of things, winners and losers, so if my experience teaches you something I am happy. I am humbled that I get to live my professional dream and I always enjoy the opportunity to help others do the same. If you think I can help you I’m happy to share what I know! Recap of my week with the monks - the why, how, and what from my silent retreat
Today’s episode is a special solo episode! I just did my first silent retreat. I went to the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky for a silent retreat. I was there from Monday to Thursday. During that time, I had 3 conversations. One with a monk for spiritual direction. The other 2 were with a guy from my church. The rest of the time, I was silent. I was nervous going into it. I’m an extrovert. I love to talk to people. I’m also addicted to email and social media. Yet, I unplugged. It was hard at first. Then it got easier. Then it got to the point I was scared to turn it all back on! Ha! There are tons of learnings I learned, and I am excited to share my experience with you. In this episode, you’ll discover… Why did Cory do a silent retreat? (2:04) How was Cory able to do the retreat? (5:02) Set yourself up for success during the retreat. (9:08) What questions did Cory ask? (11:09) What did Cory hear? (17:00) Find out more about the Abbey of Gethsemani What's Next? Are you struggling to win at both home and work? Not knowing who we are, or our core values can cause uncertainty for our families as a whole. When we don’t date our spouse, it creates a level of insecurity for our kids. We discuss instilling a good value system from the very beginning, as well as how listeners who are already in the middle of their journey can regain control of this. In this episode, you’ll discover… What is the key trait to winning at work and at home? (1:18) Children see your relationship with your spouse. (5:17) The temptation to put other things ahead of your family (8:30) Kids in your business. Helping create those aha moments is why me and my friends founded Epipheo (epiphany + video) a video production agency based in Cincinnati, OH.
