Back in late February and early March, I spent a week in Rovaniemi exploring, dog sledding, riding on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, freezing in the cold as I witnessed the Northern Lights dance above my head, meeting Santa, and even doing a polar plunge into a lake before running to the sauna. Travel to Hiroshima and Miyajima in Japan
If you’re staying in a place like Osaka or Okayama (or even the Hiroshima area itself) this is a day trip you must take! We started out by meeting our guide, Joe with Travel Japan Together, and taking the ferry over to explore Miyajima Island. We loved exploring the island, boating under the floating torii gate, and visiting some temples. Then, we went back to Hiroshima to visit the Peace Memorial Park and Peace Memorial Museum. It was a heavy afternoon learning about the events of August 6, 1945, days after its 80th anniversary. It’s tough to learn about tragic history and dark history including the aftermath of such devastation. We learned a lot this day, and while heavy, it was well worth it. Because if we never learn about our past, we’re doomed to repeat our mistakes. What Is It Like Hiking The Aiguilles de Bavella Loop in Corsica? (+ Tips For Success)
Are you hoping to visit Corsica? I’ve got a story for you! I (Kat) did a 9-day road trip around Corsica full of fun, relaxation, adventure, and more! Aside from the stunning beaches in Corsica, there are also ample hiking trails. It is known for the GR20, a multi-day trek known to be one of the most challenging in Europe. While I definitely didn’t attempt that, I did hike a portion of it when my friend and I hiked the Aiguilles de Bavella Loop Trail. But things suddenly took a turn when AllTrails information was inaccurate and reviews that claimed it was only a 4.5-hour hike also weren't always fully correct. What was supposed to be a 6.9-mile (11.1 km) hike in 4.5 hours, it ended up being an 8.4-mile (13.5 km) hike that took around 7-7.5 hours. It’s not the longest day hike I’ve ever done… but certainly one where we weren’t prepared with ample water. Lessons were most certainly learned including to always pack more water than you think you’ll need AND ALWAYS carry a LifeStraw Water Bottle. Here is my tale that is partially funny (now that we’re totally fine) and partially a little scary. Plus, I've got tips for your success in hiking this trail.
