Our Seattle Seahawks opened the season 1-0, defeating the New England Patriots 13-10 in a home-opener banner night that got a lot more complicated than expected. We break down Sam Darnold's early hip injury and Drew Lock's poised relief effort, Brian Fleury's offensive game plan, and a dominant Mike Macdonald defense that turned away Drake Maye and the Patriots on the final drive. Uchenna Nwosu had a dominant performance up front, Ernest Jones led the team in tackles, and Josh Jobe came back and completely redeemed himself after pass interference set up the Patriots only touchdown. Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic joins us to talk about his new book, "." Mike talks about how writing a book gave him a different kind of avenue to report some behind the scenes information compared to daily beat coverage. He explains how the "12 As One" mantra runs through the whole roster, and the throughline of selflessness he found from Ernest Jones's story to the other vets who helped carry the message. We talk about Macdonald's approach worked in Seattle when a similar first-time-coach jump didn't for Jerod Mayo in New England, and the "high-powered" standard Julian Love set for the...

It's our annual tradition, and this year it comes with a twist — our Seattle Seahawks are defending a Super Bowl. We go position group by position group through the roster heading into 2026: an offensive line built on continuity, Sam Darnold's turnover profile, a receiving corps anchored by JSN and Rashid Shaheed, a tight end room we think could be special, and a defense we believe is the best in the league under Mike Macdonald. We land on our record predictions and make our case for a repeat. Then we get looser — a "sports hate" riff on Aaron Donald and the Rams, stories from a trip to...

We're one week away from our Seattle Seahawks kicking off their title defense against the New England Patriots, and Field Gulls managing editor Mookie Alexander joins us to break it down. We start with the Seahawks roster: the running back competition, a safety room banged up by injury, and continuity questions on offense under new OC Brian Fleury. There are also several changes to the Patriots roster: their retooled receiver room around A.J. Brown, some movement on their offensive line and veteran help at safety. Mookie responds to questions surrounding the Patriots and CB Christian...

The final episode of Hard Knocks helped to close out the preseason just one week ahead of kickoff, and we're breaking down everything from the lead up to roster cuts and the emotional moments of making the roster. Montorie Foster's call to his parents after making the team is the heart of the episode, alongside Uso Seumalo's relief at sticking on the ready squad. We get a look behind the scenes at Nick Emmanwori's uncertain recovery timeline, and discuss the new short-shorts rivalry. Plus, our favorite moments (and critiques) from the season of Hard Knocks — the soundtrack, the...
info_outlineIt was a big weekend for Seahawks news ahead of the Week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. On Saturday, the team released its 53-man roster which highlighted the strengths and shortcomings we've been discussing a lot in the offseason. Now it's official-the defensive line has some big question marks. The next day, we learned that Jadeveon Clowney would not be returning to Seattle. Although reports showed that offers made to Clowney were valued at the range of the contract he ultimately signed, he is going back to the AFC to play in the division of his former team.
To kick off the season, the Seahawks will take on the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Ryan was down with an injury last season and even though Seattle had a huge halftime lead, it ended up disappearing toward the fourth quarter. Are we going to see the Seahawks employ a similar strategy this season with their offense to try and go up big early against teams? Perhaps giving up more than 450 yards in the air to Matt Schaub last season was enough to emphasize the importance of improving depth in the secondary in the offseason.
We close out the first half of the show talking about areas of the roster that could come back to bite the team by choosing to focus on depth and familiarity with the team rather than going after higher priced talent.
In the second half of the show, we get a little pushback from one of our newest members of the flock on the pancakes versus waffles debate. We learn about how creative gender reveals need to consider temperature and climate in their decision making, and for people who pump gas and don't move their car before going into the store. Better at life honors go to Dan for helping Adam with trying to get internet in the woods and to the Seahawks for getting through training camp and testing virus free.
