“I had to learn about me, what makes me work and find my beauty, because if God is perfect and He gives us all beauty, I have it.”
Kirstin Baxter
In today’s podcast we talk with Kirstin Baxter who has been in the Social Tenacity program for four years. She is the best example of having tenacity and stepping out of your comfort zone and doing hard things time and time again. She is an empath and growing up as she would try to connect with people and serve them she was told that she took things too seriously.
She felt that in some way she was flawed because she had a sensitive side. Her goal became to try and to be strong and serve other people and help them feel good in a way that wouldn’t make her feel like that flaw was taking over. She became a teacher for a few years and then took a sabbatical from teaching when she became a mom. She tried to find something that helped her feel more like herself and not only the mom of a child.
“When you don’t love yourself already and don’t have self-confidence, it makes it really hard to step out of your comfort zone.” - Kirstin Baxter.
Something that we forget or push aside is that when we seek to be a new mom and want to be with our kids, we set up so many obligations and expectations for ourselves. We assume that this is what we're supposed to be. We're supposed to be amazing at breastfeeding. We're supposed to love to clean the house all day. We're supposed to want to make beautiful bows, to put on our kids' heads and all of that, and just enjoy staying at home. When we aren't finding all that joy, we feel like we're failing.
It is important to set a relationship with yourself and be authentic to who you are. Start keeping commitments that you made to yourself, like setting work hours or family time. Then find ways to celebrate little things that you do for yourself and ways to love where you are at and who you are.
The way you can get over fear and doubt is courage and confidence. The way that we build confidence is by creating a space where we can keep promises to ourselves. When we are true to ourselves and true to our commitments, that’s also going to build confidence.
Sometimes you may have self negative thoughts, but you should never give up on yourself. Everyone has their own individual strengths. Once you discover what your strength is, you learn a lot about who you are and how your strength can help you in your own authentic way to serve the world.
When you recognize your inner beauty you will be able to influence the world in your own way. When you allow yourself to be your authentic self, you can serve others and help them even more to see their greatness. We all have our own light, but we all need each other.
“As we recognize the needs and the ways that we can give and work together, we can truly lift the world and be stronger together.” - Kirstin Baxter
We should stand like elephant moms. Instead of running away with fear, when a predator comes, they stand side by side with their back toward their young, toward the predator. And they stand in solidarity saying, go away predator, you have no place here. And the lion or whoever it is will give up and walk away. And these elephant moms don't look at each other and be like “her size, my goodness”, or “who am I to stand next to these ones? They're so much taller than me.” They don't do any of that. They say, no, we're strong because we're together. And because we're together, we will continue to be stronger.
