info_outlineDr Kent Hungerford is a Podiatric Surgeon from South Coast Foot Surgery in Shellharbour, New South Wales. This episode discusses why podiatrists are hesitant to adopt new technology. It's not just podiatry; the whole allied health professional is a little hesitant. On average, it takes 17-years from intervention discovery to widespread implementation. Shockwave has become very popular over the last 10-years; however, it was known around 40-years ago, and laser therapies have been in existence since the 1980s.
We also talk about:
- The fear of trying something too early and being judged.
- Social proof.
- Looking at research.
- Post-graduate education.
- The price to adopt new technology can be a barrier.
- Education is also a barrier, therefore put money into training and remove this barrier.
- How to afford new technology and why you need to do this.
"The business needs to work for you so you can work for others to get them the outcome that they need in the most efficient way.”
Final Tip
It's up to you to look for better outcomes for your patients. Be open-minded, look at the research and see what is coming through. If you're unsure why someone is using something or if it works, find someone passionate about it and ask them questions.
