Saluton estas mi, , welcoming you to Succotash Episode #347. I will be your host for the duration of this episode as it is my turn to do so. Last week in Epi346, subtitled "Clips Like a Lion", show creator and executive producer of Succotash brought you a clips episode plus a little something extra. The clips featured in that episode were from the Soundcasts known as Dear Chelsea, The JTrain Podcast, and Two Vegan Idiots. The aformentioned extra took the form of a contribution from comedian "Slices" blog, called "Rebel Without A Phone". It was an entertaining episode that, if you were...

info_outlineSaluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Epi319 of Succotash. And thank you for making us your destination for this period of listening that you are currently embarking upon. This show started 11+ years ago as a way to feature comedy people and their podcasts, which we here at Succotash have been calling "soundcasts" as a way to attempt to separate the medium from the dead format known as the iPod that it is named for.
As time went on, the soundcast proliferated in a way that is still quite surprising at times. More's the merrier, more for show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon and myself to choose to listen to, take snippets from, and ultimately present a few of them to you, the listener. If this is the first soundcast that you've ever listened to I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing us.
I've got 3 clips to share with you, but first: I'd like to point out that last week in Episode #318 of Succotash, Mr. Hershon brought you a quadrilogy of clips from soundcasts that contain comedy AND sports, namely Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, Sportsfeld, The Grade Cricketer (that included guest commentary from our friend Jason "Jabs" McNamara (The DHead Factor, Boganwood) from Canberra, Australia), and View from the Cheap Seats. It is the first time in this show's history that it has featured an all-sports-related soundcast lineup, and I found it to be actually quite an interesting listen. You can find that episode in our show archive at www.succotashshow.com or pretty much wherever you might listen to soundcasts in your own personal future.
The clips I will be sharing with you this week are from the soundcasts called Jake Yapp presents: Not Today, Thank You, Strong Songs, and Trashy Trashy.
I feel like this episode is loaded with feminine energy, but I'm not sure that I am the best person to evaluate that. I will let the listener decide.
This episode is sponsored by Henderson's Pants new Pushover Pants, the perfect trouser for those who feel a mite unbalanced.
CLIPS
Jake Yapp Presents: Not Today, Thank You
A once-daily-now-occasional podcast featuring Jake Yapp, as seen and heard on Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe, Radio 4 and 6Music. Our clip hails from the episode that dropped on October 7th, 2020, with guest Ellen Rose entitled "Game Saves". Interestingly, there is no mention of Ms. Rose in the show description, nor is there any additional information about her…so I looked her up! According to a page on youtube.fandom.com/wiki/Icklenellierose she is listed as an "English YouTuber best known for being a host of Outside Xtra, as well as being a former host of Xbox On."
Strong Songs
Music: it's good. On each episode of Strong Songs, host Kirk Hamilton takes listeners inside a piece of music, breaking it down and figuring out what makes it work. This soundcast features the type of granular approach to music analysis that, as a lifelong music nerd, I appreciate a great deal. I took a clip from the August 11th, 2022, show entitled, "Help Me" by Joni Mitchell. (Host's note: I have listened to a few episodes of Strong Songs" and had been looking for an excuse to clip the show for our show. Thankfully, this episode I have clipped for you happened, and I could not resist the urge to clip this show any longer, as this is one of my all-time favorite songs!)
Trashy Trashy
I first featured a clip of Trashy Trashy's 3rd episode way back in August of 2020 and now, they have reached their 100th episode, and are steadily sailing ahead to their 200th, one would presume. Over the last 2 years, this soundcast has become one of my weekly regular listens that I try to make a point of getting to when it drops, usually on Monday of every week.
For those who have never heard it before, the description says: "A podcast for garbage people by garbage people. We cover trashy news stories. Hosted by Cassandra Cardenes and Erika Curry.
This clip, featuring dog parks and their people, is from their episode 101, from August 8th of 2022, titled #NOTALLDRESSING - In which, its episode description is a repeat of the previously mentioned SHOW description. It also includes their social media links, and a series of links to all of the news stories they are sourcing for this particular episode, including the weekly inclusion of a "Dumpster Fire of the Week" story.
And that completes your journey through the selected bits of audio that other people took the time to commit to a more-or-less permanent format, that I have taken the time to commit to an additional more-or-less permanent format, that you have taken some of your time to listen to, and I am very grateful for that.
I am grateful for a great many things of late. I am grateful for the friends and family that I both have had and, through the recent nuptials of my brother, I now have. Or…I also have…now… Something like that. It was an amazing time seeing many people I had not for 20-30 years perhaps. It was amazing food and the ceremony was both very moving and succinct. I'm grateful that my parents were able to attend a marriage of their child, in their lifetime. I'm grateful for the furiously expanding amount of perspective that time and life has brung, and is bringing to me.
I can even say that I am grateful for the soundcast as a format. I don't know if any of my assorted audio content post-2002 would have even existed as it does had it not been for the soundcast. Much of it does directly because of the soundcast and because of other soundcasters sharing it with their listeners over the last significant portion of my life so far.
So, I can only close by saying "Thank you" to all involved, and to remind you that next week there will be something else for you to listen to: Epi320. It will most likely be hosted by Marc Hershon and will feature his interview with Christine Blackburn, friend of Succotash and host of the longer-running-than-our-show, Story Worthy, as well as the Story Smash soundcast game show, AND the brand new soundcast My Life in Three Songs!
So…if you enjoyed this, and somewhere out there in "The rest of YOUR life" - land someone should happen to ask you if you heard anything interesting or good lately, and we spring to mind…by all means tell them so. It's what we mean when we ask you to please pass the Succotash?
