Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Life’s Best Medicine. Dr. Tony Hampton is a board-certified obesity specialist, working with patients individually in the clinic and with small groups enrolled in the diabetes prevention program (D.P.P.). As one of only just over 3,000 board certified obesity medicine specialists in the United States, he’s been able to use his knowledge to help develop and support programs that reduce the obesity burden. He has also been instrumental in the launch of the Food Farmacy (that’s FARM-acy with an “F”) at Advocate Trinity Hospital to increase access to fresh, healthy food for patients and community members in need in partnership with the Chicago Food Depository.

Karon Hampton, Dr. Tony’s wife, is a pharmacist with Walmart and a graduate of Xavier University for both her undergraduate and pharmacy education. She is the proud mother of two sons.

In their conversation, Brian, Tony, and Karon talk about how Karon and Tony met and ultimately got married, their health journey together and how they ultimately came to adopt the low-carb lifestyle, the effects of stable blood sugar on mood, effectively and intentionally caring for the important people in your life, learning how to adapt as parents when your kids become adults, Dr. Tony’s experiences delivering babies as a family doctor, the importance of keeping an open and learning attitude when it comes to relationships, social issues, and medical care, and some tips for maintaining a healthy marriage relationship.

Life’s Best Medicine According to Tony: “For me it is about waking up everyday and feeling like I am living my life’s purpose, and wether I am honoring that purpose and pursuing it everyday. I encourage everybody to do the same.”

Life’s Best Medicine According to Karon: “First and foremost it is God. I am faith-driven all the way—a believer. Whenever there are difficult times I always start with a prayer. I am constantly talking to God. I am constantly praying over my marriage, over my children, and for anyone else who has said anything to me about having any difficulties or opportunities for growth.”

Thank you for listening. Have a blessed day and stay healthy!
