Sea Hawkers Podcast
The final episode of Hard Knocks helped to close out the preseason just one week ahead of kickoff, and we're breaking down everything from the lead up to roster cuts and the emotional moments of making the roster. Montorie Foster's call to his parents after making the team is the heart of the episode, alongside Uso Seumalo's relief at sticking on the ready squad. We get a look behind the scenes at Nick Emmanwori's uncertain recovery timeline, and discuss the new short-shorts rivalry. Plus, our favorite moments (and critiques) from the season of Hard Knocks — the soundtrack, the...

The Seattle Seahawks' initial 53-man roster is set, and we went live to talk about the biggest surprises and areas where there is still some concern going into the season. The Seahawks kept a surprising number of offensive linemen. But in the past when we had a surprising lack of depth at guard, we are now to the point where guys seemingly beat the odds to make the team. The running back room may be a concern until Zach Charbonnet gets back, but that's mainly because we haven't seen much from the guys throughout the preseason (by design). A fan favorite from Hard Knocks made the initial 53,...

The Seattle Seahawks are technically undefeated under transferring to new ownership this week. Seattle tied the Kansas City Chiefs 9-9 in the preseason finale, and concerns are running high that we may be on the verge of a special teams crisis. We get into another Jason Myers shaky preseason outing and how it stacks up against some real cautionary tales at the position, plus Michael Dickson's continued excellence at punter. Jalen Milroe's strong performance gave him something to build off of for the future. We work through roster bubble battles at cornerback, wide receiver, backup guard, and...

We dig into the film with Derek Coleman, a.k.a. Coach DC, of All 22 Films to figure out who new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury is showing us so far as a play caller. We break down what's carrying over from Klint Kubiak's system and what's genuinely new, from pre-snap running back motion to the 12-personnel "Ace" formation to the shotgun run game. We get into how losing Jake Bobo and Robbie Ouzts reshapes the run game and tight end room, why Drew Lock is the trusted QB2, and a coach's-eye replay of both of Milroe's preseason interceptions. Following Hard Knocks Episode 4, we react to Bud Clark's broken ankle and the warrior mentality he showed, Julian Love's case as the team's emotional anchor, and the rookie talent show where the winner was Derick Hall? We get into the roster bubble battles, Leonard Williams' leadership, and whether the Hard Knocks glow-up would figure into the consideration to cut a player. Will the Tory Horton injury factor into how many roster spots the Seahawks carry at wide receiver into the season? Plus, some great questions straight from the flock, including how we all became Seahawks fans. Join...

Our Seattle Seahawks fell 19-16 to the Tennessee Titans in their second preseason game (and first one on the road), but the final score barely tells the story. We break down a first half where Seattle's second team outplayed the Titans first team, a strong showing up front on defense, and a receiver room who doesn't seem to have anyone stepping up to fill the void left by Jake Bobo's injury. We get into Jalen Milroe's rough second half and the two interceptions that came with it, questions surrounding the running back room in spite of the big run by Jacardia Wright, and a scary run of...

What has Jalen Milroe learned after one season in the NFL? We went snap by snap through his preseason tape to find out. We break down his footwork and dropback mechanics, how he reads a Shanahan-style progression offense, and why the flashes of "Ferrari" playmaking ability keep showing up alongside real technique concerns. We get into Mookie Alexander's take on his development after his post-game appearance on the show this week, walk through the two-minute drill that turned into one of his best sequences of the tape, and close out with a full tally of the good, the bad, and everything in...

Hard Knocks episode three just dropped and we're live with our reaction. Join us as we break down JSN's route-tree and the episode's cinematic camera work, the underdogs still fighting for a roster spot, and what the "let it rip" mentality says about Jalen Milroe's development. We get into Devon Witherspoon's contract payday and how it paid off the storyline from the first episode. Plus, we got to see what that extension says about the front office's culture and about low-ego stars and quiet leadership in the locker room. The Terrion Arnold saga continues and we got to see the beginnings of...

We're live right after our Seahawks' preseason opener against the Cowboys, breaking down who stood out and who didn't. Field Gulls managing editor Mookie Alexander joins us to help sort through a penalty-filled night, Drew Lock's outing, and what Jalen Milroe's sophomore debut looked like. Our Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks kick-off the pre-season this Saturday vs. the Dallas Cowboys and there are a LOT of major story lines we are focused on. The Terrion Arnold signing at the start of the show has us weighing the on-field talent against the off-field questions, Jadarian Price's availability is up in the air, and there are position battles to keep an eye on. We break down what to expect from Jalen Milroe as he competes for the QB2 job, dig into the offensive line battle at right guard, and who should we be cheering on in the fullback competition. Plus, we're forced to look...
info_outlineThe problem with having high expectations going into the season is that just one half of football can make a fan believe that it was all a mirage. Were we drinking the Kool-Aid in the offseason or was Sean McVay and Matt Stafford take advantage of a Week 1 opportunity against Seattle? Time will tell. In the meantime, we explore the Seahawks defensive woes and the lack of an effective pass rush. Both tackles went down to injury and were a big reason for the offensive struggles in the second half. We discuss some things the offense could have done differently against the Rams defense.
Injuries will continue to have an impact on the offensive line in Week 2 as 20-year veteran Jason Peters was signed to the practice squad this week. Abe Lucas was moved to injured reserve and will have to miss the next four games at a minimum. Will Charles Cross be next to the IR or can the team somehow manage his foot injury. Looking ahead to the game against the Lions we talk about what has to turn for the Seahawks to bounce back from their disappointing Week 1 performance.
In the second half of the show, we talk about one game on the schedule that is guaranteed to help the Seahawks in the NFC West standings, even if we can't decide who to cheer for. Adam offers his bold predictions for the outcome of Week 1 games. The NFL quarterbacks who got paid this offseason need to do better and so do the fans who immediately start calling for Pete Carroll's job after one game. Better at life honors go out to a helpful gameday gadget and to a former Seahawks running back.
