info_outlineScott and Randy Baker met when they were 16 and married in 1997. Through their marriage journey, they are learning to adapt to each other as they each learn to adapt to and be aware of their childhood culture. Scott is reserved, while Randy is outgoing by personality type. Randy reminisces about her childhood experiences and her response to her encounters. As frequently happens, our past and its adverse consequences become a part of our subconscious behavior. Those subconscious thoughts can dominate our current thinking. We carry those thoughts into our marriage and other relationships until we introspectively assess our lives. Scott and Randy describe some of those unconscious thoughts and how they have impacted their current thinking. They have each made conscious choices to be a “chain breaker” of those behaviors they will not carry forward. For Randy, her dad, who is no longer living, had and still has a significant impact on her life. As she recalls his favorable legacy, some of his life's less-than-favorable aspects can be activated, which impacts their current behaviors. One of the most significant takeaways of this podcast is the impact men and dads have on other’s lives.
