The podcast mentions that there are several similarities between the books of Kings and Chronicles, specifically that 1st Chronicles… focuses on David, covers both the Northern Kingdom and Southern Kingdom, seeks to explain Israel’s downfall in terms of how they broke their covenant with God, and was written around the time of the return from exile to remind the people that they were still God’s covenant nation. Why do you think these points were needed as God’s people returned from exile?
2. The podcast also mentions that an underlying purpose of the book of 1st Chronicles was to show that just as God was faithful to His promises to bring judgment, He would also be faithful to bring restoration. How would this have given the people hope in their time of exile?
3. Since we’ve already discussed the Davidic covenant from 2nd Samuel 7 a few weeks ago, as you have come to today’s study in 1st Chronicles 17, what is your understanding of its significance?
