"There's a housing shortage crisis in places all around the world. And for me, as somebody that is from architecture, from urban design, from property development, especially for residential buildings, I believe that technology is …an avenue to be able to facilitate lower cost development…One of the things that (an expert from Los Angeles) told me about, which was a great example of being able to speed up construction and affordability, is just around the recent fires that happened. And one of the things that they're doing is that they are using artificial intelligence to help speed up...

“The climate crisis has roots in fossil fuels, but at the same time, fossil fuels fund this Russian inversion to Ukraine. So it means this is a fossil fuel war. If we will actually fight against our overall actually dependency on fossil fuels in the same way we will fight against climate change." Svitlana Krakovska, Ph.D. on Electric Ladies Podcast With so much geopolitical chaos and dangerous heat waves and other extreme weather, we have vivid reminders that climate change is a security “threat multiplier,” as former Defense Undersecretary Sherri Goodman says. “Sustainable aquaculture needs to be part of the solution set for health, for feeding a growing population, and it increasingly can be done well, that's the thing. There's been a lot of innovation in that field over the last few decades….There are different types of aquaculture. “We're seeing hurricanes, four of the 10 most damaging hurricanes in the United States happened in the last 10 years. Recovery and rebuild continues in many cases. Last year we had the world's most expensive wildfire on record in Los Angeles. These are market failures. Why are these things happening? Something is misaligned. Is it we're not taking care of the natural environment? Is it that our built environment, our buildings and our structures are not able to cope? Where are the policies? Where are the updated building codes?...Now these storms are happening more frequently and with...

“What are the stories that people can participate in and see themselves in? I think that's one of the keys that we can unlock when it comes to the whole climate narrative is telling stories that build the scaffolding blocks to a larger narrative that people want to be a part of, and we need to make it feel inevitable….The way that justice prevails, whether it's environmental justice or any kind of justice, I think it's that the leaders make it feel inevitable. And that's the climate movement's job. And I think we have every opportunity and ability to do that." Melissa Jun Rowley on...

“While the word ‘climate’ may be politically charged for some, the need for affordable, reliable, and secure energy is something we can all agree on. Americans are calling for action, and as Members of Congress it’s our responsibility to deliver. If we want long-term solutions that address both our constituents' concerns and growing climate risks, we must work together to strengthen our energy and climate security with urgency.”  As we in the U.S. commemorate Memorial Day this week and express gratitude for the sacrifice of thousands of servicemembers on behalf...

“When you look at where families invest across the spectrum of sustainable and impact investing, climate is really at the forefront. They think about that because, look at our environment, look at the food supply… because of environmental issues. Not withstanding the tariffs too….These are issues that have to be segmented and families are doing the work and they're putting their capital in…(F)amilies really are more and more values aligning their investments, and there's a blurring  (of the) line between philanthropy and catalytic investing so that they can invest in climate and...

Our bottles, this year, I think they're coming in at 6.6 grams …We've created label-less bottles so they're easier to recycle. …We're now running lines that are entirely recycled content. So we are very committed to creating bottles that that do not harm the planet, and also that allow for the most circular of products while we also think about what the bottle of the future might look like.” Ann Marie (Canela) Chock on Electric Ladies Podcast

Summer vacations tend to include a lot of plastic bottles - at the beach, in the car, at the airport. In 2025, people consumed an astonishing 500+ billion plastic bottles. That's about1 million plastic bottles per minute! Drinking water is good for you, but how do we deal with all that plastic? What's the responsibility of the bottling company for all that plastic?

Listen to Ann Marie (Canela) Chock, Head of Niagara Cares and Director of Corporate Giving at Niagara Water in this fascinating and candid conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson. (Note: This was recorded before she got married and changed her name to Chock.)

You’ll hear about:

How bottled water gets to your local market,

How Niagara Water dramatically reduced the plastic content of its bottles and is taking steps to improve recycling.

Where corporate philanthropy is focused at this tumultuous moment when so many government grants were abruptly cancelled.

        Plus, career advice, such as:

I think the best thing you can do is define you first….what your values are at this time, and have been for probably since you were a child. And some definition to what your purpose is in the world….The second one I think is.…I would just encourage, especially midcareer women to think, ‘what if the things that were right for you, you knew they were right for you because they were easy, not hard?’ Because they came to you in a way that felt aligned versus you're scrapping and fighting for them.…Hard work is a core of success, but it's not the only way to get there.…So what if we considered things that came to us and were at our feet as the right path for us to go down?”
