Ep. 051 Steelers Preseason Opener - Have We Upgraded?
Release Date: 08/13/2018
Steelers Outpost Podcast
The Steelers pulled the cover off of the Mazerati to see if the engine would start. After a couple of sputtering attempts, it revved up with Ben Roethlisberger and the offensive starters methodically marching 58 yards down the field for the team's first touchdown, a 17 yard pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster. This feels real. Not like 8th grade with Bubba Kowalchik towered over the entire middle school at 5'6", only to stretch out to 5'8" by senior year. NO. This feels like.......destiny.

It's nice to see Boz breakout in this inaugural exhibition game, going 3-3 in FGs and 2-2 in XPs.
Other than that, we saw some of the same flaws on defense that we hoped had been addressed, realizing that we didn't uncover the second coming of Ryan Shazier through free agency. There were some disturbing gashes against the d-line, especially after Jordan Berry (with and assist by Marcus Tucker) buried the Eagles at their 1 1/2 yard line, when Jay Ajayi broke outside for 22 yards. There were several other lapses that have us crossing our fingers for an uptick in run coverage in the coming weeks.
There were several spectacular plays to keep us hopeful about the offense, especially JuJu's high-point over Rasul Douglas for a 71 yard TD reception!
Damoun Patterson made his case on a great grab of a pass from Joshua Dobbs in the end zone for a 29 yard TD. Mason Rudolph hooked up with fellow Oklahoma State alum James Washington for 35 yards.
