Eternal Return

Is it possible to get beyond or outside of our ego? Is escaping our ego something to be desired in the first place or does it play some vital role in our existence as humans? Many religious references to this process of being without ego are filled with language and parables of pain and suffering. This image is aptly captured by the Hindu god Mahakala, the deity who waits to pulverize the skull of those who dare pass beyond time and death.
