Who is Sara Golding?

Sara Golding is the founder of Sunny Girl Business Solutions, where she leverages her experience in retail finance and operations to assist women entrepreneurs in transforming their passions into profitable businesses. Her handcrafted journey began in 2014 when she started making soap for her family, leading to the creation of her beauty brand Sunny Girl Sundries. Since 2016, Sara has actively shared her expertise with the handcrafted industry through her "Working Smarter" column in Making Soap Magazine, and through mentoring fellow business owners. She also offers interactive seminars and workshops nationwide, focusing on profitability strategies and business growth. Outside of her professional life, Sara enjoys gardening, spending time with her rescue dog, and traveling with her teenage daughter.

In Ep 43 we highlight:

Entrepreneurship, business growth, & personal experiences in balancing business & parenting.

  • Personal Life and Parenting Teenagers

We discuss our experiences raising teenagers, including teaching them to drive & the challenges involved, running a business with a toddler to teenager & it's impact on the family dynamic.

  • Impact of Parental Entrepreneurship on Children

Sara described how her daughter, after years of observing her mother's business, started her own polymer clay earring business and is now in her fourth year, demonstrating the positive influence and learning outcomes for children exposed to entrepreneurship.

  • Helping Clients Achieve Their Dreams

We share a shift from focusing on sales to helping clients achieve their dreams, sometimes without direct financial gain, & ep 43 highlights the importance of a holistic approach to client needs.

  • Financial Literacy Gaps

Many adults, even over the age of 30, do not know basic financial information such as their pay frequency or hourly wage, & rarely review pay stubs or bank statements.

  • Pet Safety & Product Use

  • Potential for New Product Development

  • Emotional Vulnerability and Coping Mechanisms

Open discussion about experiencing meltdowns, crying in front of children, and the importance of not bottling up emotions. Strategies include setting time limits for emotional release and using movies or humor as coping mechanisms.

  • Support Networks and Communication Strategies

Introduction of the 'eight minutes' code word for friends to signal a need for emotional support, referencing research that meaningful conversations require more than five minutes.

  • Mothers’ Mental Load and Preparedness

Anecdotes about mothers carrying extensive supplies (e.g., super glue, batteries) to be prepared for any situation, highlighting the mental load and anticipatory planning mothers often undertake.

Entrepreneurs can utilize support systems and strategic resource allocation, including hiring part-time help and leveraging tax credits, to manage business and family demands without waiting for perfect conditions.

Mothers often carry a significant mental and logistical load, being prepared for various contingencies, which is recognized by both children and peers.
