A Transitional Journey through the Prisons of Maine
info_outlineFive years ago, to the day, it's still totally incomprehensible to understand the senseless, cruel murder of George Floyd, a 46 year old black man,... whose life was abruptly snuffed out, by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, as he mercilessly pinned Floyd to the ground with his knee for nine minutes and twenty nine seconds.
I recently caught up with Tom Flynn, former Development Director of WMPG-FM, and host of a radio program he aired, called Saltwater Farm. In the early 2000's, Tom with his wife, decided to leave Portland, Maine, and relocated with his wife to Minneapolis to become an educator for a position at a K-8 "Stem" charter inner-city public school.
Tom gives us a very personal first hand view of what it was like there, just days after the tragic death of George Floyd, and the devastating fires and riots, incited primarily by an out of state fringe group.Support the show
