In this episode, John talks about the extensive process he and his family had to go through to join the Frederick Police Department. While the department has felt like a family since day one, life as a police officer hasn’t always been easy. The last few years have definitely come with its share of ups and downs.
John has worked very hard to make sure that the public and his department have felt safe and supported during the pandemic as well as the Black Lives Matter protests. Because of his hard work, protests have been peaceful and everyone has been able to feel heard. According to John, the key to being a good cop is, “come to work, do your job well, and be the person that you've always been.”
About John Corbett:
LT John Corbett is a graduate of the 47th Frederick Police Department training academy. He has worked in the Patrol Division in several specialized units and is entering his 19th year of service. He is currently assigned as commander of the Special Operations Division, which encompasses the School Resource Officer Team, the Directed Patrol Team, the Volunteer Auxiliary, the Chaplain Corps, and the False Alarm Reduction Coordinator’s office.
In his off time, LT Corbett enjoys woodworking and marathon canoe racing.

“I know one of the things that's been challenging, especially since the events of 2020, is sometimes it feels like we're treated like a monolith. And no one should be treated like a monolith. We're all individuals. I talked about the culture of this agency. Cultures change across organizations. I'm not even talking about law enforcement now. Any business organization, there's a culture. And when you start lumping everybody into the same box, that's the very definition of stereotyping.”
