The Curated Beauty Podcast
Recently, I was in Sedona on a visionary integrator retreat with my COO Julia. The whole point of the trip was to take a pause, think big, and get aligned. In the development of Beauty Culture and what it may become, we’ve tossed around a lot of different ideas. Julia loves the mountains, and with her encouragement, we decided to go on the Devil’s Bridge hike while we were there. We finally made it to the bridge, which is majestic, Instagram worthy, and totally narrow. There was a line to take photos, and at one point these older women had their turn, but they were holding up the...

On this episode of Curated Beauty we’re talking about something that’s deep and personal for me. My son Daniel, my first child, has shaped a lot of who I am. He is definitely a significant part of what led me on the path to functional medicine not just as a provider, but as a mother. When I was pregnant with Daniel, he was in breech position. For the safety of my baby, I was recommended for a C-section. After birth, he was given injections for hepatitis C and vitamin K, as well as administered antibiotics in his eyes. At one month old, he was jaundiced and had skin issues. He was given an...

Today I’m opening up about something very personal. I want to share my daughter’s story, because it’s an example of how physical manifestations can signal something deeper. I’m going to use this as a jumping off point to explain how we would approach a situation like this in my business. A few years ago, our daughter was experiencing chronic hives (also called urticaria). We looked for triggers in her environment and her diet, as there are a lot of different possible triggers for inflammation. Functional lab testing is a great tool for taking a closer look at symptoms like these, and...

Today we’re talking about one of my favorite tools in functional and regenerative medicine, peptides. It’s also quite the buzzword these days, but in this episode we’re going deeper to explore how you can best stack them for your desired outcomes. You can think of peptide stacks as powerful curated treatment plans (without all the side effects you want to avoid!). When I first heard of peptides, I was so intrigued that I couldn’t wait to experiment with them. In fact, I ordered thousands of dollars worth. I recently put together my own stack for surgery and recovery preparation. But...

Lately, I have been feeling stretched thin. There’s a book called The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom, and I was recently reflecting on the framework he breaks down in his book. I realized that my health had started to decline due to exhaustion and burnout. My business is thriving, and it has been an absolutely transformative year. We rebuilt our lead generation process, welcomed a hiring firm who complements our values-first approach, integrated a new website and third-party shipping platform, and streamlined our compliance procedures. When you’re clear about what your goals are, it’s...

If we want to reach the highest level of performance, we need to go deeper. The very foundation of our health, energy, and recovery is our cells—they are the building blocks of our body. Your body is a vast network of signals, and electrolytes power these signals. When your cells are thriving, you thrive. When your cells are struggling, you are too. Your mitochondria are the energy producers of the cell. They generate ATP, which is the fuel that powers everything. When mitochondrial function is optimal, we feel our most resilient. Electrolytes are especially important when it comes to your...

Let’s talk about something most entrepreneurs struggle with: letting go. When I first started my business, I was the top revenue producer, and I thought that was a good thing. But the truth is I was the biggest bottleneck in my business, and that wasn’t how I wanted things to be. When you build your business around one person, you can’t bring a long-term vision to life. You have to hire and trust the right people and build a business that can manage and sustain itself without you. Your competitors can steal your ideas, but the right team can’t be taken—especially a team that’s...

Today I’m sharing an episode originally released in 2023 about a huge crisis that my business went through. Vulnerability is an important tool to reflect on our past disappointments so we can guide the journey of the learning process. While it can be difficult to share the challenges we face, these challenges will ultimately shape who we are. Not just as business owners, but as leaders and individuals too. Experiencing betrayal in our personal lives is inevitable, but when it occurs in our professional life, it can be incredibly jarring. I know it was for me. If you’ve ever experienced a...

Success leaves clues, so if you study top performers in your industry, you’ll see what they have in common. Those patterns, behaviors, and actions might surprise you—but they’re also a lot simpler than you’d think. Mindset is one of the most important things to master for entrepreneurs who want to scale their business to seven figures and beyond. For my team, as soon as we start our day, we focus on our wins before we move on to our priorities and obstacles. We also do activities that emphasize building confidence so that our team feels empowered. The little things you do each day in...

If you’re a leader looking to build your dream team, this episode is for you. You can’t do it all, so you need to bring in support. But instead of hiring for your team, what if you used the revolutionary approach of casting your team instead? This mindset shift can change the way you lead. I know it did for me. Traditional hiring has its pitfalls. You may hire the right skills, but miss out on the core values fit that you need. You may hire people you like, such as friends or acquaintances, without thinking about how they’ll suit your business. This is even more likely to happen when...
info_outlineDoes estrogen therapy cause breast cancer? The simple answer is no. This is a hot topic in health circles—and you may have even been told by your doctor before that estrogen does cause it. This misinformation does a very real disservice to women, which is why setting the record straight is so important.
When we look at the data, what we actually see is that estradiol kills cancer cells. So why isn’t this information widely available? In large part, it’s because hormones, like estrogen and testosterone, aren’t patentable—so there’s no money in it for the big pharmaceutical companies.
Research hasn’t really confirmed the exact cause of breast cancer. What we do know is that dysfunctional cells, somehow created, continue to grow and turn into cancer. There are genetic risk factors as well as lifestyle risk factors too. While many women are scared of breast cancer, we are highly more likely to suffer from heart disease.
Estrogen is not just overlooked in cancer, it’s villainized. The reality is that hormone replacement therapy can increase survival rates. There are many different ways to go about taking estrogen therapy. There are synthetic forms, which we don’t use, and bio-identical forms. You can take it orally or transdermally, each of which have their own unique benefits.
The only women who may not be considered for estrogen treatment are those who haven’t yet gone through menopause. Pre-menopausal women still produce estrogen, so taking it could lead to excess estrogen effects. Estrogen therapy should be used in conjunction with progesterone, not progestins.
