Today’s guest and host of the Mystic Medecine Radio Show, Dr. Keesha Ewers shares her story of battling autoimmune disease by addressing her childhood trauma first. We often want to fix diseases through western medicine which looks at the disease before the patient but that can only take you so far on your healing journey. Dr. Ewers explains that no disease forms overnight; in fact, they often form for decades with the root cause often being a childhood trauma. Our Trauma responses are deeply connected to our immune systems so through compassion and a willingness to identify maladaptive patterns of behavior it is possible to heal both mentally and physically.

Takeaways:

[4:15] Bio-Identical hormones might not be addressing the root cause of your health issues

[7:20] Autoimmune diseases do not show up overnight. They usually develop over 10-30 years

[9:30] Ayurvedic Medicine: evaluating the person instead of the disease

[11:00] Auto-Immune implies that the core cause of the disease is within yourself from trauma

[14:20] For survival the female brain is wired to remember the places that cause pain

[16:30] Libido and past trauma are uniquely tied to our immune system

[19:20] There is no one path that fits every patient

[20:15] Finding the initial trigger is only helpful if you are willing to begin the journey to healing

[22:40] The first step is to feel compassion for yourself and for those who have experienced trauma

[24:40] Before you fully understand your trauma you need to identify maladaptive patterns of behavior

[25:28] You need to love your inner child and provide the compassion you lacked as a child
