 Bio:

Chad Pilieri moved to Greenwood Lake NY from his hometown of Brooklyn with his family and fell instantly in love with it. A massage therapist for over 25 years, Chad studied Taoism and Permaculture which started him on a path towards solutions. All these experiences led him towards realizing the power of localization and supporting growing food locally. Grow Local Greenwood Lake became a non-profit in 2020. The organization created an open Common Ground community garden collaborating with the community on many other projects to bring about this vision.

 Highlights: Chad Pilieri

• Chad shares his journey from Brooklyn to Greenwood Lake, New York, where he founded the nonprofit organization Grow Local Greenwood Lake. The organization focuses on localization and supporting local food.

• Chad’s journey began with studying Taoism about 30 years ago, which led him to explore solutions such as permaculture and fasting for personal transformation.

 • When Chad discovered the concept of Permaculture, he became interested in creating a positive impact on the environment through community gardens and localization. Some inspirational influences were Helena Norburg Hage and Donna Shiva.

• Grow Local Greenwood Lake initiative created in March 2018 with a group of friends, aiming to bring positive changes to their small village. Things can be messy with challenges and obstacles, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the members remained positive and focused on making a difference.

 • Grow Local Greenwood Lake participates in various projects, including community gardens, fundraisers, and plans for making Greenwood Lake more self-sufficient and resilient. Chad envisions a movement of people growing food in their yards and is enthusiastic about promoting regenerative practices.
